Jake: i would suggest you go to see the 5197 in person so you can see why Oldie and all of us that own one really like them. also maybe take your 6 inch Columbian and see if the seller will trade you. i know you will love that Craftsman vise better even though it's not as big.

97: that is some haul. the Wilton C1 is probably their best homeowner vise they make. the Reeds are keepers and a 150 pound Morgan just to round it out. Can i ask where you might have found all those nice vises? good haul.
Jake: i'm pretty sure the 5197 you posted is the one Joe was mentioning that he has a bead on and reserved. i own a fair amount of 6 inch vises and i'd probably sell any of them before i sell my 5197. it's a great looking vise spiffed up like the ones Big Caddy has shown us a few of his.
Hey guys, been away from here a little bit. Damn, this thread moves fast. Anyway, here's a couple pics of a vise stand I just built, and a smaller Columbian I did a quicky restore on. The 3.5" Reed on the vise stand is one I picked up for $10., missing the swivel base. No luck with finding a swivel, and on closer inspection after cleaning it up, it had lived a pretty hard life. Lots of hammering on the slide, if it was a Prentiss it probably wouldn't have survived, had to file it down to get it out of the static jaw. So I drilled another mounting hole on the other side, and put the stand together out of stuff I had hanging around. Haven't decided if I'm going to paint it yet. Plan to use it mostly for welding. The little Columbian was in near mint condition, but had a lot of paint dripped on it, so cleaned it up and repainted AMR.

97: awesome. that's how I've found and bought a few of mine too. if you decide to spiff any or all of them up can you post the before and after pictures over on the Vise Repair 101 thread because we do need more big vises over on it? Also post a few pictures of your broken swivel and maybe some of us will have some ideas for a fix or maybe have one from a parts vise to sell you.
That Reed is awesome!SC: that is the coolest paint job I've seen on a vise since Ritzblitz's sister painted his Reed 1C. is that a new vise or did you or your dad or friend restore it? care to share the color and brand of paint or how it was done if you know. here's Ritzblitz's Reed so you can see in case you missed it a few months ago.
Merry Christmas! I'm 95% sure it's indian actually. He said it was new from an industrial supplier in Canada and I agree, that's tough looking paint.
Merry Christmas everybody.
It's wrinkle paint. Kennedy uses it on all their brown boxes.

Aright so it's quite obvious that the vise market is going up, at least I think so.
Any predictions on if it will continue to climb, how much, how long, and when it will start going back down again?
