What's the general consensus on these. I talked the boss into a new carbide tool grinder today, and gave him the number on the Baldor. I've used them in the past and thought they were great.

It's replacing an old Rockford grinder. I'm hoping I can take this one home. All it needs is to be rewired..

The bench mark, the very best, also the highest priced for a good reason.

Exactly what he said word for word.

I have been looking for a good used one for years. But they always are still a little out of my reach.

You mean something like this:

Actually there are several different levels of Baldor bench grinders. They offer a "red" series that is actually painted red. These use pressed steel (stamped) sheet metal guards and tool rests.

The higher quality line has cast iron guard and rests as shown above.

Then there is the delux series that has lights built into the eye shields. Then you have the 1,800 and 3,600 RPM models some with dual voltage 120 / 230. The larger sizes are 3 phase.

Yep, they can get rather pricey real quick but they will typically last a life time plus some with no more than normal care. The 6" grinder in Elroy's picture is about 12 or 15 years old. Catalog #623E. Paid right around $200 new. Don't know what they go for now.

Elroy also has a 6" Baldor from 1952. I'll get a picture of it later this week end if anyone is interested.

Baldor is top notch. I have been looking for a used Baldor grinder for some time. I do have a Baldor buffer that's over 10 years old and still runs like new.

I think the carbide tool grinder is the Baldor version of this Taiwanese knock-off.

The tool grinder does look like that harbor freight knock off. It is the cast iron type, with the adjustable rests, and cup wheels. I told the boss that he should get us a Baldor, showed him the catalog, and he said cool no problem.

Baldor products are a lifetime product made in the USA. I have never seen one wear out or fail.

I have 1975 made Baldor grinder and still runs todate.

I also own a car washe made in the early 80s with baldor motor and still running

I am fan of the old american made tools but the new ones, I assume are either rebadged cheap asians or of lower quality.

And here is a 1952 Baldor 6" bench grinder:

The lifting handle is a nice feature.

We claim 1952 only because the serial number is 12/52. It could well be of other vintage but Elroy is a betting man in this situation

And a vise:

Pops likes his Baldors
