Dave,

I've never seen the box that the Cleveland ones come with. It'd be great to post a pic of that too.

Here's a cheap aluminum one I sold.

Thanks Jeff

I can Play; I'll skip the metal boxes with the tilting tray, since those aren't that interesting, even when vintage.

A Morse wood index with a paper label:

A Wood Cleveland, I havent had time to do any cleanup on this one. It has a metal disc on the end to pick one of 7 drill bits:

Another Morse, Diecast, in a triangular shape:

And a plain unmarked wood index.

Dave,

I've never seen the box that the Cleveland ones come with. It'd be great to post a pic of that too.

Here's my fractional size Cleveland box, in nowhere near as nice condition as Dave's number size box appears to be:

MVC-022F-6_zpsc8059c20.jpg
MVC-023F-14_zps71178917.jpg

And I've got a full set--fractional, number, letter--of the Morse triangle like Outlaw's, except the number index is broken. The nice thing about those is that they can fold flat for storage, or open in triangle for bench use.

Dang it, now I need to find the box for mine!

Something I didn't even know existed just became a necessity.

Here is one made by AJAX I picked up a few years back. I had forgotten about it until now.

Edt, you win with that wooden one. I have the same set of Huot metal ones like yours but that wooden one blows them all out the water...

What is behind the hinged door, and in the drawers? More pics please.

Would love to find a Cleveland set, in or out of the case!

Here are a couple I have picked up, and a round one I have cleaned up, but don't have pics of. Any one know the maker?

A couple of shots of the right side of that cabinet. I don't recall for certain if the Starrett drill plate came with it but I think it did. I got some arch punches and other tools there too, a run-down house in E. Freetown, not far from New Bedford.

Wow, if you have enough drills to make good use of those you have enough drills to last a few decades of heavy use! We had a set of those at the first shop I worked at out of HS.

just saw this thread.

First of all, there are some awesome looking indexes (indices??) here. My simple contributions:

1. a CM index, some surface rust.
2. A small HUOT index. I repainted just to try, it had similar surface rust to the CM.

I think I need to think bigger now.

I never realized there were some cool old drill indexes. My grandfather was a blacksmith in Pa. And I don't remember what he had. Everything in his shop was old.

I have only one picture of my drill bit drawer in my toolbox, but it does show one nice older Index by Century.

I've yet to come across one of these in all of my auction and flea market visits but I'll be looking for sure. One question, why were some bits sized fractionally and some with a number? My initial thought was standard vs. metric.
