Picked up the set on the right this weekend. With a little bit of cleaning and greasing I should be set with tool storage.

Can anyone tell me what vintage or era? I'm quite curious.

That is very cool box. You just don't see many old Macs.

Thought i'd post up a couple more if no one minds.A couple of old Kennedy machinists; boxes;a couple of hand-made boxes;and my prize:a Keen Kutter salesman's cantilever sample kit with fourteen(!) trays!
The handmade box with the Stoiber Sign Co logo was made by Carl Stoiber's son and is a work of art.The four sides and the bottom outside edge are all one piece. The bottom is welded in and the rim around the top is rolled and reinforced with 1/4" round stock. It also serves as the pivot pin for the hinges. The top is similarly constructed and riveted together and the reinforcement holds the latch lever. Apparently there was a tray in it once and the tab supports for the tray were broken off. I got it from his son and also got a sign painter's kit that his grandfather used back in the 1920's.

I think I got a pretty good deal on it, less than half the cost of the craftsman you see there which was brand new. Any idea on how I can find out the year? I'm considering calling MAC tools directly.

Will post up more pics when I get it cleaned up and lubed.

I'd say top is 50's-60's, bottom is 60's-early 70's. They might be stamped.

Safari: those are some very cool tool boxes. the one with all the cantilever drawers is crazy awesome. can you actually carry that box when it has tools in all those drawers?

also that stout box you have that is built like a tank i also have a similar one. any idea who made it because there have been maybe 4 posted on this thread and best idea we have so far is that it was made and sold with tractors or other machine and not just sold as a toolbox. if you know please share and thanks for posting all those cool boxes.

BTW the car with all that pinstriping under your boxes deserves it's own thread or at least a full size picture here showing all your amazing work you did on it.

ALL: I was wondering if anybody can tell me which company made the Craftsman heritage toolboxes because they really are maybe the nicest boxes that Craftsman made and sold IMHO.

Kinda old Craftsman hand carry made by Waterloo.
It's got the poorly designed tray that couldnt take a lot of weight and became separated.
I re attd using bigger screws and it should be fine now.

The box in question was made by Russ Stoiber's father from Toledo Ohio.He was a sheet metal fabricator as is Russ.
If by the Heritage boxes you are referring to the ones that look like Kennedy boxes then they were made by Kennedy. The only difference I can see is that the pins that lock the front plate in place are spaced slightly farther apart on the Kennedy boxes.
The car is my 1955 Pontiac Safari wagon that is my daily driver during the warm weather.I don't know if it is appropriate to post pictures of it on this forum.
The box with all the trays in it has holes drilled in the bottom and I believe it was mounted on a wheeled platform. The covering is made from pasteboard and the date on the decal is 1942. I don't think it was designed to hold very heavy material as it would probably bend the hinges like the the old Craftsman round top boxes do.
I also have a tackle box of similar design that has 10 or 12 trays and when I got it several of the hinges were broken.I am still trying to properly repair it.

Agree on the car, and I just picked up one of those boxes this weekend. I too would like to know who made them! Mine doesn't have the "hip roof" style top but the top/bottom join is similar. All 3 boxes were full.

Gany: nice looking Craftsman box. those old boxes might have had design flaws and/or poor riveting on them, but they are stout and better built than even the crowntops and certainly better than todays toolboxes.

Safari: thanks for posting up the pictures of your cars and a couple beauties that is for sure. if that is your daily driver you must be pretty well known in the town you live in. also nice looking garage and doesn't seem to be short of any tools or supplies. any more old tool boxes to post please do and since we can post 7 pictures per post you can most likely post up more pictures of some of your painted items showing your talent and i'm sure most if not all the members will approve. you have some awesome talent and thanks for letting us see some of it on your toolboxes and cars.

Twertsy: nice boxes and if i know you they had some nice tools in them too. is the small one a Craftsman carry box like the one i just posted or another company's version of it?

those old "tin knocker's" tool boxes are nice and seems like a lot of similar ones keep popping up. i wonder if some of the old schools made them as a class project or maybe a trade school's project. I heard mine was sitting on an old tractor for 50 years and it's in pretty good shape so guessing the tractor didn't spend too much time sitting outside when it wasn't working on the farm.

Thanks. Funny thing... The strips that the tray slide on also (possibly un intentionally) act as reinforcing ribs and make the whole box more ridgid.

Any of you guys ever try to rebuild ball bearing slides on an early bb slide box? My Mac has Accuride slides, the same as was used on the KRL 1000/KR 660, from what I understand. I tried to get my slides warrantied through Mac and they sent me very low quality replacements. If I can't find replacements on par with the originals, I figure I might as well try to cannibalize some of my bad slides for parts to rehabilitate the better ones. They all still slide very smooth, but the bushings/detents are long gone and some of them are hyperextending and dropping balls. Thoughts?

Post up some pics, measurements and any numbers on them. I have a bunch of NOS slides but don't know what they go to.

Did you see my post?

Did you read his? :wtf: :dunno:

Dug out and set up what was my first top cab yesterday. It was also my dad's first top cab. He got it for Christmas when he was 13. He's 54 now. Relabled beech, sold at canadian tire. I replaced it with the bigger version of a similar vintage, but I have too many tools for one cabinet....

There is a bottom box as well. We have no idea what brand it is but it feels really solid. Any ideas?

I was thinking MBC but 70's might be too late for them and color combo off. I remember seeing one like this one on this thread alittle while ago. It's a quality box so take a picture of the slides and the locking bar in back by hinge. That would help but There has to be stamping somewhere.

I restored a big *** Craftsman Commercial 10 drawer box a couple of years ago that had the same badge. The date stamp was 1974. I believe that tag was around from '70-'78

I'd guess Waterloo also handles aside the construction features, top latch hook and top tray dividers appear to be the same as Craftsman/waterloo...
