I got to thinking Outlaw, (which I have to be very careful with, could blow a fuse), that they wouldn't be clones, but knockoffs.---If clones, they would all look like BUGATTI'S, and then I would defiantly have to go on E-bay and buy the INDUSTRIAL.

True statement! It's hard to find an original idea these days! :pimpflash

My dad had this in his garage and told me to take it home. 1.75" jaws. It's so small! No markings to tell the maker. Anyone have any ideas?

It says made in USA and the number 16 is stamped in it.

Drives It was an 800S and I have taken it apart but, not had much time to take it to get the machine work done. That stand looks like it would fit perfectly. Is it hollow? I would think it would need to be filled with concrete to use it as a vise base.

That style vise was either made by a lot of companies, or made for a lot of companies and re-branded.

Check the head of the main screw closely. I have a Millers Falls stamped with MF there.

I just happen to have one on the bench holding my wife's painting project. It is marked USA and # 2 on the back.
Outlaw is right, there are a lot of them that look the same.

Ex: I think my old belt grinder stand is maybe 32 inches tall so add an inch steel plate and maybe my Reed 4C that is i think 15 inches tall and it's up there like BB said a big 8 inch vise would be. here's the grinder i traded another GJ member for something he had that i needed and yes it was a big un.

Rad: that stand i listed is hollow, but with a plate on it and a heavy vise i doubt it would move anywhere. or maybe i could build a stand out of this solid 7 inch steel diameter piece that is 42 inches long and maybe with one of these 4 inch steel plates that are 22 inches in diameter. i haven't learned to weld, but i'm guessing i might have to have a pro with 3 phase weld this stuff together.

take a look at the vise and grinder stand thread in the fabrication section if you haven't seen it yet because lots of ideas for stands on there if you need to see some member's other ideas.

You mean swivel? It's a great buy for $30.

I think he means tilt. it has the swivel base, but Wilton made (or had that made) with atilt option. I think I see the hinge behind the static body. I had one years ago before I finally gave it to a buddy, (Home Made) stand and all.

Thanks for the info but there is nothing visible. I just looked again. If I have time tomorrow I will check again.

I like those little tilt Wiltons.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drive,---That would make an awesome stand with the 7 inch round stock and a 4 inch plate and15 inches of vise, at 61 inches you could put 17 in concrete and still be back up to 44.---And that might be a little to high.---Not sure what regulation is suppose to be.---Or you could make one heck of an anvil on a stand.---You sure cottoned on to some righteous stock there.

Depends on your body. You want the jaws about even with your elbow, unless you work on abnormally tall pieces. Then probably shorter than...

Trust me Outlaw, I looked into it. A LOT! hahahaha. There is one way I could have forced the sale but would have had to take a not very utilized or known approach, which I didn't know about at the time. Plus, while I do want amazing vise deals, I also want good vise karma so the good deals do continue to come. That might be a little too Mathew McConaughey/zen-like for some folks but I hope it works for me  With all of that said, the seller was a little bit of a jerk about it, and this is someone selling since I believe around 2000 - a little hard to believe it could have been a decimal point issue but I guess stranger things have happened.

I can think of one possibility. The guy is having somebody else with better keyboarding skills enter all the info for the listing of his vise. That person asks "what about the price?" He says "start the auction at Three Ninety Nine"

Looks identical apart from markings to the henry I just did up for my dad. Woden clone, very nice vise! Definitely a better vise than the equivalent records.....

Drives, was that a porter cable belt grinder? Looks like most of the ones I have seen from them. Be one heck of a machine for profiling knives! Although my 2x72 is pretty darn good.
On the steel stand, if you put a bit of a bevel on the base it could be done with any decent stick welder. You have a welder thats useable? I saw you had some old bullet lincolns, not sure if you had power for them.
If you do I'd offer to weld it together when I get down your way. Probably be a lot of passes!

Yup, it tilts on the swivel base. From my cursory inspection there are no cracks but it needs a good cleaning, the sliding handles straightened, and the jaw is a hair misaligned. I'll try to get more pics later once I have time to clean it up, but I've attached one from the ad.

My Majestic is small as well, but these two should be more than enough for my needs (famous last words). :lol_hitti

I'd say it's more a merging of Record and Parkinson styles. The round base is Record style, and the unusual dog leg styling on the rear of the body was only ever used on the Parkinson Handy's and Samsonia's, as far I recall. Falcon is definitely not one I can ever recall seeing over here.

SC: i just checked the Vise Repair 101 thread and didn't see Falcon on it and I've never seen one either that i can recall. it does look like the basic old English vice design and since i like birds it would find a home on one of my benches just for the style and name. nice find and hope you can figure out how to bring it home.

Vintage: the big belt sander grinder had 10 or maybe 12 inch width sandpaper belts so not a little belt sander. i'm pretty sure the sander isn't a porter cable because i think it was sitting in the spot in the old steel fab shop for maybe 50-70 years. it's not mine anymore so can't take any better pictures, but if i see the new owner again soon i'll try to remember to ask him or maybe he'll post up pictures of it after he restores it.

SC: at the very worst if you get it and don't want to keep it you'll have some good trading stock for something you might need more later.

good luck

Thrum: how's the painting coming along now that you are above freezing temps? those Emmerts seem to come in a lot of different styles and sizes. does anybody here have a few they can post?

Drivesitfar: Going good. Everything's primed... Rain break this evening. I'm getting used to the brush properties of oil based Tremclad as a finish coat, so I'm experimenting on a Record No. 6 before I do the big ones.

Does anyone have a source for Wilton or similar 6" copper jaws? Pricing on ebay is around $90 and I thought I saw pricing half that, but that might have been 4" ones.

I'll do up the 289 1/2 with copper jaws and I think I will try the lettering out in copper leaf to match. This should get interesting. More photos once I'm done!

don't know a lot about Wiltons, but someone out there does :pimpflash and it seems to me that price is decent.

I've got a "ID that vise" puzzle here. It is identified as an 8" vise, but I think it is too small, this is a Parker Superior No. 79, or maybe a Vulcan. The letters on the side appear to say SEMI-STEEL SOLID BAR. The No. Seems to have a 9 as the last number. Any thoughts appreciated.

I picked this up yesterday from a coworker who was going to scrap it. I am pretty new to the hobby and don't know much about it.

A picture of final assembly on the T5 vise. I still have to drill and paint the new bracket but I will do that when I get ready to put it on a bench. That little piece in the upper right of picture is the only thing left of the mounting bracket. The new one is just a piece of 3/8" angle iron with two ears welded on for the 1/2" pin to go through. The bracket for under the bench will be fun trying to come up with something that resembles the original.
