Reasonably productive so far. This morning I swapped the winter tires on the car. While doing that, found a broken swaybar link. Replaced both front ones. Then changed my 220v outlet to match my Miller 211. After that I greased the garden tractor and installed the front hitch for the snowblower. After lunch I'm going to grind leaves into the yard. Final plan for day is starting on making a vise pedestal. See how far I get before the Broncos get their *** whooping from the Packers starts.

Changed the battery in the ATV today, of course it took longer than anticipated. Put a bit of exhaust putty on a couple of holes in the muffler, hoping it will hold until I can find a replacement.

Got my Heat going today, I rebuilt this Older Lanair Waste Oil Heater, I bought new in 1993, earlier this summer, welding up a cracked chamber, rebuilt the gun, built a stand for it,then got in position, wired, plumbed, chimneyed, this past week, and finally got the unit running today! and all is right with the world!
And got my Race Car ready for one last race, next Sunday, as long as the weather holds out!

Finished up the shock rebuild this weekend on my Fox Shock. Handed it off to a friend so he can get it charged with nitrogen.

Searched for my lost crowbar. Gave up and went out to do the week's shopping.
Returned tothe garage with a metal detector, a few replacement wrenches and a new, but poorly shaped crowbar that I will forge into the correct form if the metal detector doesn't find the old one so where buried in the brush and leaves.

Rain all day, so when home got back to the garage.

I finally finished the ramps for the scissor lift. They are easy to move and store, as each of the four sections is under 5' long. When set up they are about 11' long.

I also started building a 1/2 size Olympic Lifting platform. A real one is 8x8, but mine is a only 4x8. Its going to be 2.25" thick when done. Doubled up two 3/4" 4x8' CDX plywood sheets. They are glued with construction adhesive and screwed together, then weighted with some bumper plates till dry. The center section is 3/4" particle board, with smooth side up, that's been cut to 3'x4' and centered on the 4x8' plywood stack.

I'll be getting a 3/4" stall mat, which are usually 4x6' in size. I'll cut two 2.5' sections and then only glue them to the stack.

I've used one this size before, and works good. They're easier to move around too.

Replaced garage computer monitor to a 20".

Had a 17" ****** westinghouse because it had built in speakers... then replaced with a dell 19", then ended up finding a dell 20" ..lol

Much better. I'm half tempted to put my 24" up in here but this seems to be a good size for the minimal garage how to use stuff that is looked up...

Speaker bar on it is pretty decent as wel.

Moved out a bunch of items for winter storage so now another car can actually fit back into the garage. The Mustang will get a dry place to spend the winter.

Cut open a transponder key and hod glued chip inside the steering column so we dont need to deal with $100 Italian keys for the pos cruiser. also pulled of a bunch of funky cabinet (every other door was nailed down) doors from the work bench. Found some of the tools the guy that built the garage lost behind his cabinet doors too. Lead hammer, some wedges, an armstong replaceable blade knife. He used some pretty serious lumber too it looks like.

Started stripping down a go kart to fix up and give to my boys as a Christmas present. Any suggestions on the best place for cheap wheels/tires, centrifugal clutch, yard kart stuff?

Still doing minor 'decluttering' fixes, ahead of changing up an entire side wall of oru suburban 2-car garage / everything shop

got on a a bit of a roll today.

First up was the ceiling rack for our big ladder. This was just (4) 4"x16" pieces of 3/4 plywood. I screwed the top ends into the sides of the rafters. I -reinstalled the screws at an angle, knowing I was jamming the wood up into an insulated place. And on their flip slids I drove a pair of short screws to act as slide / leveling slots. All I had to do was go up the ladder and jam each piece up against the stops to be at depth and square. The bottom ends got a 7/8" hole.
I used a piece of 3/4" EMT conduit as the cross pieces. And once those pipe pieces were in place I just crimped their ends with some channel locks and my Kung-Fu Grip[sup]TM[/sup]
I'll probably add a loop of coathanger wire as a retention ******** the ladder foot, keep it form sliding out of there in an earthquake. Maybe.

Then it was on to the screwdriver rack. We had three short, different racks on the wall. And I have a LOT of other specialty screwdrivers for various things / hobbies, but most of those live in other places. But I wanted to condense what we had at this bench and had a yen to route some redwood. Wood was 2" tall, 1-1/2" wide, cut down from a 2x4. I spaced the holes 1-1/4" apart, used a 3/8" bit. And a 1/2" bit on a couple holes at each end, for very large screwdrivers. I then ran the wood thru my router table, using a large upright ogive bit. Gave it some style and exposed the thru holes for the drivers. It's just screwed to the pegboard for now.

screwdriverrack02_zps1q9dahj7.jpg

Then it was on to the spray paint and nail/screw box rack. A standardized nail / screw box is almost as wide as a paint can is tall. So I thought to combine the two and turn the front edge of the paint rack into a nail box holder too. The bottom of the pain box just has a 2-1/2" tall fascia which acts to tilt the paint cans up. Helps the stack of paint cans stay in the box and better presents the caps for viewing. Besides color, there are many varieties of paints in there, which I've identified with a Sharpie. A typical paint can is 2-5/8" wide. I was going for a 16" width to the paint section, 6 cans wide, interleaved with 5-can rows. But I accidentally made it too wide so my can stack sort of falls askew. I need to put a shim in there to take up the extra space.
As for the nail boxes, I needed to put some shelves in there every 2-3-4 boxes. Fresh full boxes are sturdy, will stack well. Old beat up mostly empty boxes do not. So there's no order in this stack except freshest and fullest to the bottom. But the stack wobbles. Maybe I need a similar curb at the bottom of the box stack to also cant them up at the front and help stabilize the stack. Or glue in some shelves. This is also a cosmetic thing, as I have a LOT more nails and screws, they're in a bunch of cylindrical storage containers stuck in a 5gal bucket for transportability.
Whole thing is a slapdash prototype, made from 3 different kinds of leftover wood scrap. Glued and brad nailed together. It'll do until I see how it works. It or some later version will eventually be attached to the side of the tall cabinet which will sit right behind / beside it. Probably ought to be some slanted shelves between every couple rows of paint cans, too, so the bottom ones can be removed with greater ease.

Maybe now I can quit buying spray paints I already have.

Got my shock back from getting charged with nitrogen. Tested it out by compressing it and setting the rebound setting as high as it goes. Letting it sit overnight to make sure there's no oil/nitrogen leaks. Then the final assembly will happen with the spring retainer and compression/rebound settings.

Loaxed up the truck with a engine block, crankshaft, heads, and some scrap metal for the salvage yard tomorrow. The heads are still good with new seals but nobody wanted them for $100. I dont want them so, scrapping.

Ripped some dark walnut for a friend, put away some Halloween decorations in the garage attic and started to swap a cord on the concrete mixer motor. I realized that I didn't have the right terminals. Kinda of a pisser since I was just at Menard's and probably could have grabbed some there.

Did some basement workshop pegboard Tetris, to fit in recent HJE and TC purchases... Pictures later on tonight..

First is of a new workbench layout I did over the weekend, gives more of a work spot and better access to my woodworking Kennedy 526. The second is of my specialty CM screwdrivers..

Last night I got up on the roof of the shop and the house to do my fall inspection/pre-winter inspection and everything looked good but didn't get a chance to do anything in the shop.

This DST ending really *****, it's dark by 5:30 now.

Finally got around to fixing this and hanging it up. The way people ask if they can drop stuff off to me it seemed right to hook it up. It needed cleaning and a little hack wiring in the switch box fixed. About 10-15 years ago I was working in an auto parts store. When they remodeled they were going to toss this out. I had to save it.

Now you need a number dispenser with numbers in the thousands, and when the SO (Or an annoying neighbor) asks you to do something.... "Take a Number"

Come to think of it, is it for sale? I could use that in my office at work!

The saga continues. ..I removed the intake manifold on my truck so I could get access to the leaking thermostat housing. What was supposed to be a pretty easy weekend fix has turned into a month-long pain in the *** ordeal.

Last night I removed my soft top from our Jeep, cleaned the interior thoroughly and removed all of the dirt/dust from last week's Jeep rally. I then installed the hardtop for the winter.

Wife and I had some errands to run afterwards and I had forgotten how much more quiet it is with the hardtop vs. the soft top. Flipping the soft top back in the warmer weather is hard to beat though.:rocker:

Tonight we have our monthly Jeep club meeting so not much getting done in the shop tonight.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Got to play with my lathe. A coworker who restored loom making or rug making machines(I don't know the proper term) needed this part fixed. He also makes rugs himself. The spindle on this piece rides on a piece of maple and you can see it got worn after many years of use. He wanted it just smoothed out but I suggested we sleeve it to make it the same diameter.
You can see it looks like someone was chewing on it. Lol. The original diameter seemed to be 7/8"
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446662338.510544.jpg
attachment.php

He bought this bushing which is 7/8" OD and 5/8" ID.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446662432.838006.jpg
attachment.php

I turned the spindle down to slightly larger than 5/8"
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446662461.801310.jpg
attachment.php

Then I warmed up the bushing in the oven and pressed it on. Then just squared off the end and smoothed it out.

I think he'll be happy.

Painted the rear suspension components on my "new to me" 2009 Ford Focus. As with most cars the suspension parts are welded together and are never painted or only given a flash coat for corrosion protection. I was very surprised to find that my car looked almost like new underneath except for the weld beads which had some surface rust. Not normal for an OHIO car, the elderly PO must have spent the winters in Florida! While the paint was drying I went to the local tractor dealer and purchased some Fluid Film to be applied in the next couple of days. I am utilizing the streak of great warm weather that we are having, the snow will fly soon.

Replaced the cheap aftermarket upper motor mount on my 2000 Saturn SL. Reinstalled the original one to see if it got rid of the harsh cabin vibrations. It did. Going to have to get an OEM replacement. Lesson learned. Also cleaned and Rain-X'd the windshields on both cars and cleaned the headlight lenses. May need to get more aggressive with the Saturn headlights. They are clear but still have tons of nicks, chips, and scratches. Not sure yet...

Cleaned the work bench off and stared moving things around on the shelves to make room for a full body off restoration of the Puma GTC.

Took the old front storm door to the building material recycling center.
Deconstructed the old dishwasher. Going to put the plastic tub on casters, I think I'm going to use it for my wood cut offs.
Took a load of scrap metal to the scrap yard.
Cleaned up a tarp that had been outside and folded it up.
