Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

I bought a similar Craftsman kit in 2007. Still have it today. Stepped up to the Li-ion batteries is the best thing I've done. All works great except the mini skil saw smells like it's burned now.

Same here. The Li-ion are great in everything except the light, it doesn't sit on it's own with the tiny Li-ion packs.

New C3 Radios

I have what I think is the new AM/FM C3 radio. Charges both Li-Ion and Ni-Cad batteries, has a powered USB port that will charge your phone, supports Blue-Tooth so you can play music from your smartphone, has nice little platform for your smart phone under the carrying handle, and AM-FM presets. All my cordless tools are C3 (except for a CM NexTec cordless hammer) and I'm happy with them.

But NO weather radio ... which I think is STUPID.

All radios sold today (cars, portable, etc.) should have the weather radio channels built in and give the operator of the radio to have a constant scan of weather radio for alerts. What would it cost to build that feature in? $5?

At first I didn't like the C3 radio. Finishing my shop. The only outlet was next to the main panel in the shop which is next to a huge transfer switch so we can plug the generator into the house and shop. Plugged it in, radio was fine on FM, but "buzzed and hummed" when I listened to talk radio on AM. If I plugged a C3 battery in, unplugged from outlet, took the radio 10' or so away from the panel and transfer switch ... buzz and hum went away.

Then I put my phone in its cradle and plugged it into the USB port to charge. Phone created interference whether it was plugged in or no. Removed the phone from the cradle, interference went away.

Nice little radio, fills the 1000sf shop with 10' ceilings nicely with sound. Lots of nice functionality. BUT Sears/Craftsman fell a bit short in my opinion.

The new, larger radio is the one with the phone cradle under the handle. Sounds like it's not shielded properly. Good to know that it pumps out a good amount of volume. Yeah, I think it's crazy that they dropped the weather bands, but perhaps they were shooting for a specific price point and that pushed it just beyond that, even if it was only five bucks.

I've been torn between the two new radios. I think for what I need at home in the garage that the small one would do nicely, but the larger one would be good on trips, especially since it charges the battery when it's plugged in. I like the fact that both have bluetooth and USB ports, though I'm curious how many amps the port is putting out. I'm sure it's enough for a phone, but I'd be surprised if it's enough for a larger device like an ipad. Will have to check the manuals.

Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Fans - NOT a battery powered fan!

Do not think so coleman 10 was gonna get the name changed on the C3 thread pretty sure its the same thread.

Yes, same thread. No, not about a battery powered fan! This title was the first thing that came to mind when I suggested the change.

I'm a huge fan of the Craftsman C3 line - it's worked very well for me. As has been stated before, get the XCP battery and you won't be sorry.
I completely agree ... the XDP battery is a must-have for those power hog tools such as the vacuum and hedge trimmer. I felt guilty buying it on sale since I already have a couple of the older Li-Ion batteries, but I never looked back after seeing how well they perform. :rocker:

Hi Coleman

The inflator is great. I havent thought about replacing the chuck - the only flaw is a weaker grip on a bike tire valve, so I can see where people are coming from. The other attachments are fine and its nice having the portability. The XCP battery makes it especially reliable and powerful.

I picked up the inflator today. It's a little louder than I thought it would be, but nothing horrible. Guess I'll use it until I see that the chuck isn't holding and then replace it. I'll use it tomorrow to inflate some bike tires. Cool stuff.

Let me know how the inflator works out for you been looking at those things pretty hard. Would like to pick on up for small inflating jobs.

Recently got the right-angle drill to use for tight quarters drilling like wallstuds for electrical, etc. Impressed so far with it's power.

coleman10 finally found the flashlight for the C3 system. Now all I gotta do is add a few xcp batterys to the arsenal. Any difference between the xcp low profile and the regular xcp battery.

The LED light that comes with the 6-took kit? Where did you find it? I still don't see it online.

Yes, there's a difference between the two. The compact battery is rated at 1.5 Ah, the high capacity at 4 Ah, so 2.67x the run time over the compact. The high capacity also delivers a little more torque.

The current cost is $60 for the compact, $90 for the high capacity. Do the math and you're getting more bang for the buck with the high capacity. It almost makes no sense to get the compact unless you really want a lightweight XCP, but since the compact XCP and regular, compact lithium have almost the same specs, I think it makes more sense cost-wise to get a regular lithium compact. It's a lot less money for almost the same Ah. This is why when I bought an XCP I went with the high capacity. Plus, a couple weeks ago, the high capacity XCP was selling for $60, the same price as the compact XCP. The decision was essentially made for me at that point - and I really wanted the high capacity anyway to use with the hungry tools like the shop vac.

Check out this comparison:

The light that comes in the kit is Model 5518. See it here:

There's a guy on eBay who has sold three in the last month or so for $40. Looks like he's buying the kits, breaking them up, and selling the pieces individually.

Cool. Haven't seen anyone else with that one yet. Is it a decent size for one hand to hold or a little big? I was looking at the one handed reciprocating saw and was surprised when I saw how big it was Not sure if that would great for extended use.

^ ^ It's fairly tall but you can handle it with one hand. I'm sure a corded Milwaukee or Makita right-angle drill is much better, but for my DIY use the Craftsman C3 cordless RA drill is handy.

I'll give you my issues with the inflator.
It is the only C3 tool that I have been dissatisfied with.
I had to purchase my second after accidentally knocking my first off my workbench.
It shattered like a piece of window glass.
I still use my second although the digital readout died. It never was accurate, when comparing it against my digital tire gauge.
It is handy though.
I won't be purchasing a third.

How much was the gauge off? I read somewhere (perhaps a thread on GJ) that it was off by 2 psi, which, coincidentally, was about the pressure in the hose. If the difference is consistent, I would just take the difference into account when I use the pump. Interesting about it breaking into pieces. Hopefully I won't experience that.

The gauge showed six pounds high.
Like I said, always used my digital tire gauge with it, especially since I purchased it to use on our vehicles.
After the first, I had my doubt about the gauge.
The second took care of that , the digits started acting wonky then the whole LCD panel went dead.
The inflator is a great idea, just poor execution/quality.
I have never seen any power tool shatter like that in my life. I guess the plastic case was just that brittle.

Ugh finally found this thread after I just picked up the inflator last night.

Haven't used it yet...but to be honest it feels more "substantial" given what I expected. Surprise points, then earning extra points on the thing made me get it. Given our car/driveway situation I just hope it does the job versus shuffling cars and dragging out an air hose.

Anyways, besides not dropping it, is there something on Amazon I can drop a few bucks on to replace the hose/chuck on this thing to improve it a tad?

Welcome to the thread.

Yes, my main reason for getting it was I was just tired of breaking out the compressor and hose every time. Plus my son will get a kick out of it. So far, I really like it. I know the chuck will **** out sooner or later and I'll probably go the Topeak replacement hose route.

Let us know how you like it after you've had a chance to give it a spin.

I'm a huge fan of the Craftsman C3 line

Noooooooooo! Not cool. I thought that this thread was going to be about 19.2V C3 FANS! You know that little device or apparatus with rotating blades that creates a current of air for cooling or ventilation.

I have a ton of 19.2V C3 tools but I really need (want) that fan.

Although I did manage to get a 19.2V C3 LED flashlight that, as far as I know, they decided NOT to market, now I want that LED rotating light.

Can one buy the LED rotating light without buying the whole tool bundle?

Interesting light you have there. Looks like a big safety razor. It was never marketed? How did you get it?

Safety razor? I don't get it.

My LED light - I got it off Ebay; the guy had several of them. Funny story...when I bought it I thought that I was buying a replacement "head" for my existing C3 flashlight. You know a number of LED "inserts" are offered for that type of flashlight head whether it's a C-Man or a DeWalt or a whatever.

Similar to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-200-lumen...275755?hash=item280b7a98eb:g:5c8AAOSwA4dWNDOS

Anyhow, it arrived as a complete ready to go unit. The guy didn't tell me where/how he got them. I assumed that they were factory built failed prototypes. The head does rotate up-down, but with some difficulty. However, I'm looking at it more closely now and I'm thinking that he built/converted this himself.

It's super bright.

So there is a guy on ebay who had the secret stash of Craftsman 19.2v C3 Chemical Sprayers.

Only one left....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Craftsman-1...944747?hash=item35ef4b202b:g:zjEAAOSwgQ9Vx5Lu

These were apparently not very popular because they only pumped for a about 20 hours of use. However, on another website I found the "fix" for it. So no problem there.

(I confess I got one...because as my BF would say, "Well, it does say Craftsman on it.")

Anywhoooo...I'm looking for the guy with the secret stash of FANS!

Sure will, thanks for the input. I'll run the chuck until it dies. I'll compare tire pressures versus my gauge.

To be honest I almost hopped onto going a competitor route with everything. There was quite a bit of cost-benefit analysis going on.

So I had the drill, the 90 degree drill, the recip saw, and the light. The Ni-cads were shot. Couple weeks ago one my projects was installing a new storm door and I was swapping batteries every 10 minutes since they were so dead. Perhaps I should have dumped the stuff.

But thanks to some reward/surprise points I picked up the angle grinder and 1/2" impact driver package with lithium batteries. Also grabbed the smart 4 battery charger (somewhat impresses me with it's logic).

Impact zips off lug nuts (granted, I know I hand torqued these to 100-110), and the angle grinder bailed me out cutting though a suspension bolt.

For the weekend warrior/DIY guy, I feel good with the choice. It's no M18 fuel but at the same time I remove probably a crank bolt once a year so it is a trade off.

Just for future reference, the purported chem sprayer fix:

"This sprayer used a grease stuffing box for the pump and the box ran out of grease after about 20 hours of use. If you find one and the motor runs but it won’t spray, carefully take it apart and put a teaspoon of lithium water proof grease in the stuffing box. It will work like new."

Whoa! A little too rich for my blood. Twenty hours of use was not enough? Who's going to be spraying for that long? If you've got that much spraying to do, you've got a bigger problem. In any case, I'd rather get my hands on the paint sprayer.

If you find a guy who has a fan and you've already picked one up, PM me! I'll do the same.

BTW, I think you're needed on the Diehard Craftsman thread!

Was working on a small project in the garage with my wife last night and it was so damned hot and stuffy in there. All I could think about was that fan! I want that fan! Granted, I could pick up a cheap, POS, corded fan, but.... Arghh!

All the other brands have a cordless fan. There must be at least some demand for it. You'd think there would be enough to justify bringing it back. I saw one that sold on eBay for 172 clams. Insane.
