I'm looking at the coupon right now.it won't stack with another coupon on the cart or box. At least according to the ad I just got today. It will work on a full price item

Just to see what kind of price I could get one for online about a week ago I tried to use the 20% off coupon and it said it didn't apply to that item

Derek... please remember. Clean and regrease the slides and casters. Before the thing is all together.

I actually took the casters apart to lube them.

Only other knowledge i can mention... DON"T TIGHTEN A SINGLE NUT until the whole freaking thing is together.

What is your choice/recommendation for grease?

I've had my HF red cart since 2012, and the struts finally gave out. I went ahead and ordered the KRBC8T9 hinge set. It's apparently back-ordered, but I can wait. Sounds like it's exactly what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the tip, PelicanPines - glad I didn't order two sets instead of one.

I would welcome the measurements!

Snap On Hinges

I drilled the holes 5 1/16" from the back of the cart, along the same brace the orginal holes are. I had to experiment with spacers to get the hinges lined up. The hinge with the "stop" that you have to lift to close the lid is on the RIGHT.

Here are some pictures. The spacers were all about getting the hinges to line up so they were as straight as possible with their mountings.

I used 2 jam nuts to fasten the allen key bolts I used to attach the hinges.

Note: The pictures are named for where they were taken.

PelicanPines'

I love your buy lines (pun intended) I just realized I don't have a wrench to fix myself! Now if I can just convince the bride to let me spend some serious money for the self study and then purchase of said wrenches. Bride suggested a rolling pen to the head :lol_hitti

Just have a little HF cart. I painted it with some rustoleom Truck bed liner. Came out decent. If I could do it over again, i'd use something else, maybe a different brand truck bed liner. This stuff was expensive, ~$7 a can and I used 7.5 cans
And I didn't even do the drawers yet :lol_hitti

Here's mine so far. It's still got a little more work left. I cut the lid off and the front part. Going to put butcherblock work surface on the top and bottom part. Its all welded together now so no bolts at all. I welded up a lower unit stand on the side for servicing water pumps on outboards. And bigger tires. It served me well for 4 years in the stock form so I definitely got my money worth.

just recently, I was looking to get a granite surface plate. I figured that I would get a 18 x 24" plate , remove the rear lock plungers and housings on my 5 drawer unit, and it would sit very nicely in the top box. Everything measured out just right. Add the snap on hinges, and the lid goes vertical and out of the way. That cart would be dedicated to Metrology instrumentation and then get another for regular tools. It sure would be a good place for one if You are not too worried about thermal expansion differences between top and bottom of the granite.

However, things change, and the Wife talked me into getting a 24" x 36" surface plate with stand. Now THAT was strange!

Seems like half of this thread is talking about the lid so i will continue with that. The only mod i did to mine was remove the lid and add a tray across the back for spray cans.

Anyone put 4 swivel casters on the red HF Cart? It's kind D of annoying having just 2 swivel casters. I want to put 4 on but I'm afraid it may make the cart easier to tip over.

What do you guys think?
