....Just be careful though, mine munches through batteries at a surprising rate.....

Where did you buy yours? Is it possible that you have a counterfeit copy of the real thing? Counterfeit (fake) Mitutoyo digital calipers are known for munching through batteries. Don't believe me? Do a google search for "fake mitutoyo" and see for yourself. Even the Chinese fake ones say made in Japan.

Here is a video that shows the difference in power draw between the real thing, and the fake one.

What do you mean that the SO ratcheting screwdrivers are "converted" with different shanks? I am very interested in this.

The hard handles come with a fixed shank but the soft handles have shanks that can be switched out. If you search here on GJ there is at least one thread showing how to make the hard handles accept the swap-able shanks.

Yes they are converted to use the Snap-On soft Grip Interchangeable shanks. Is is an easy process. Remove the selector knob via snap ring in notch. Cut retaining washer and remove. There are a couple of thoughts on the reassembly. some people reuse the original cut retaining washer. Some people use a gm a\c seal 52477087. I work at a gm dealership in parts so I have easy access to this part. I have figured out that I need to reduce the OD of the washer by a few thousandths to get it to fit in the recess in the selector knob. I will be doing this weekend to see if it really is any better than just reusing the cut retaining washer. Reassembly is a little trickier but have found that a small pair of hemostats are perfect for holding the retaining snap ring while seating the selector knob in place. Now you can use the interchangeable Snap-On Soft Grip Ratcheting Screwdriver shanks. The shanks have a detent ball versus the original that dont. The a/c washer should help hold the shank as well. You can also insert a long 1/4 drive extention and attach your shank to it. I will try to post a thread with pics this weekend.

Craigslist deal I picked up today:

Fh80
Fhx80
Shlf80a

The 1/2" is almost new, the flex 3/8 is in nice shape, the fh80 is a little banged up (normal use) but has a new rebuild. I will get new comfort handles next week. I really only wanted the 1/2" but it was a package deal.

Got my first Cyber Monday delivery from Zoro:

It was a great deal; the only complaint I have is that 5 of the SAE drivers have a different style handle than the rest of the set. I guess they are revising the design, but it irritates the heck out of me that all 14 don't match (or even just all 7 SAE drivers). [emoji35]

Cyber Monday order came in from JB Tools, also picked up a couple discounted things from Home Depot.

Gearwrench 1/4" (120XP) and 3/8" (84T) sets, with fillers for the 3/8" drive sizes. My socket trays will be happy  Everything was Taiwan (even the singles), which was a nice bonus. Should also have the free Streamlight Nano coming from them some time down the line.

The husky palm ratchet set I got for the 3/8" ratchet and 3/8" sq to 1/4" Hex adapter. The ratchet is the same as the one in the GW 1/4" set, just with a 3/8" drive. Figured it was worth it for $6. Phone holder was in impulse buy as it was clearance for under $2.

I've had both of those sets for several years and no complaints here. The little thumb ratchet doesn't have great action, but better than nothing if you don't have one.

Picked up a Craftex CX600 vertical mill (same as the Grizzly G0704 but with a smaller table then the griz) on the black Friday sales. Instead of buy the sheet metal stand i made one that incorporated a 7 drawer side cabinet. In each corner tubing theirs a smaller tubing and all thread to lift the mill off the casters like a trailer jack.

Some nice hauls on this page!

Here is my Black Friday lineup. Armstrong 12pt 1/2" drive sockets from Cripe to fill and expand my set, plus a few PB Swiss items.

Wow that slot chisel looks so good. Like something out of an industrial design portfolio. Where'd you get it? I am not finding anywhere to buy one when I search.

I was unable to find any manufacturer which still makes hacksaws in the USA... so I bought a used one. I was looking for one which could make flush cuts and this one turned out to be a good choice. My guess is that this one is from the 60s-70s and though it has surely seen much use, it still functions well :)

I believe that style hacksaw was produced by several manufacturers ove rhte years. The one I have is a Craftsman and I bought it at Sears about 40 years ago.

The large top tube can hold a couple of extra blades. remove the screw on cap to access.

I have the 1/4 set in my service van and it is really nice. I can tell you the case is pretty tough. It survived flying off the tailgate of a truck while taking off really hard. Forgot I left it there. It did open and all 51pcs. flew out but the case didn't break. I was lucky and was able to find every piece.

First tootsie roll Wright. It's the 3/8" I got off eBay. I would like more of these, they are awesome in an old-school kind of way.

It looks like the newer "large WIHA" version has the sizes printed on the handle ends.
I wasn't sure which style is the old and new, but I definitely like the large printed "Wiha" version better. It looks nicer, and the sizes are easier to see at a glance, especially with the sizes also on the handle ends (assuming they don't wear off easily).

Here's some more detailed shots. I also noticed that while the metric set appears to all match at first, the soft-molded portion of the handles were not installed in the same orientation for every driver, causing the sizes to sit in different directions. [emoji53]

Both sets together:

Metric:

SAE:

I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but so far I am very disappointed. This is something I would be bothered by on a cheap, low-quality set from China, and not something I would ever expect from a well-known German manufacturer that is known for quality tools. I plan to contact Zoro this weekend to see what they can do for me.

Yeah, there aren't too many uses for those things. Yours looks a little different from what I am used to seeing though. Other than carrying around flat glass panes I have only seen them used for automotive windshield replacement and for removing and installing raised floor tiles in data rooms. Those are usually more simple handles with two suction cups though. I guess if you ever find another one you could always "Mission Impossible" yourself up the side of a glass high rise.

I am going to give it a try on some big switch gear and panel lids… and like i said for $10, why not...

So you're "very disappointed" based off the manufacturer at some point changing the type of printing / labeling of their drivers and you having received a mixed set of the two varying types of printing on them?? Furthermore, you're "very disappointed" that the orientation of the handles causes the sizes to sit in different directions??

You're "very disappointed" in nothing but aesthetics and you haven't even used the tools yet? And to top that off..you're going to contact Zoro all over some aesthetics discrepancies?
