how is everyone storing their cordless tool collection??

i was thinking about getting that stackable ridgid tool box set to keep my m18 stuff in... not sure if they will all fit though, and wondering if you other guys have some better ideas / pictures instead of just throwing them all in one big container

Do you use yours mostly around your house / shop / garage or do you travel with them at all? I used to keep mine in a tool box but quickly found that I was using them as much off site than I was in my shop. So I keep mine in bags on a shelf. Not as pretty or as efficient as being well laid out in a tool box, but this works out well for me. Whenever I need to grab a tool and go, I simply throw batteries and a charger (if need be) in the bag along with the tool. Accessories (such as extra blades) are already in the bag.

mine are very rarely taken out of my house.. my "work area" is in the basement since this friggin house doesnt have a garage, and i keep all my m12 stuff laid out in the top of my HF 44" chest.. the small stuff gets me though most of little jobs, so i was kinda looking for a way to store the bigger m18 tools since they dont see tons of action here. if i use them, its likely an outdoor project, so thats why i had the ridgid box in mind. this way i can just keep most of them together and move em around as a set. im not a huge fan of the contractor bags, but im not exactly sure how much i can fit in the ridgid box either..

just looking for ideas - and maybe give some people a chance to show off what they've come up with.. im not married to the idea of portable storage. in fact - adding another side locker to my HF tool chest is seeming like a good option too.

I have a real problem with that pic.....they are all too new and too clean.

Mine....which are the much nicer calming blue....most stay in lower cabinets....except drills....one in the house...one in the garage.

That Ridgid set is nice I have it and its very comparable to the Dewalt tough system.
I use this dewalt box. My drill and impact driver go in the top along with there batteries and a charger, in the bottom I keep my brushless impact wrench, two sets of impact sockets, a case with driver bits, my cordless light, 2 3ah or 4ah batteries, and gloves with room to spare. I know thats not very many tools but they are my most used and really the only ones that I prefer to be cordless most of the rest are corded and in my Ridgid set I keep hand tools in the Tough System boxes.

Being OCD like I am, most of my Milwaukee is still in the original boxes or their plastic hard case stored under my work bench.

yeah, that's pretty ocd. I only have one m12. I keep it battery up and it actually stays that way. That way I can reach for the handle real quick.

I do have the 26"(?) box that was posted above for when I need to take tools with me. I can fit my M18 drill, sawzall and flood light, M12 hackzall, drill, impact, stick light, spot light, bits, tape measure, screwdrivers, hammer, charger, and extra batteries in that box. What I take with me changes depending on what I am doing, so I leave the box empty instead of storing the M18 tools in there full time.

Anything that isn't used often like oscillating tool I keep in the blow mold but I've got cordless drills just stationed all over the place on any flat surface. That bin in the first post actually looks like it might be a nice way to store a lot of them. Easy to open and grab but they won't get spider webby. I might look into getting a nice tote for some of the stuff that is currently in it's own little blow mold or bag but doesn't have related accessories.

Which impact wrench cases do you have? Aside from my drill, all of my M18 tools were purchased as bare tools. I would love to have cases for them.

M18 impact wrench 3/8 probably fit 1/2 or impact driver, for charger and 2 batteries

and

M12 impact 3/8

they are FUEL so they say FUEL on them.

I got the 18V DeWalt set that came in a bug bag. Of course putting everything in there made it a pain to transport as well as store. I considered all sorts of solutions before finally getting sick of tripping over them and buying the ridgid wheeled box to put them in. I keep my driver out an the batteries and charger in a cabinet, but the tools go into the box and a couple bagged tools get stacked on top. I haven't used it to transport them since I only got it a couple months ago, but around the house its still handy. I keep a small DeWalt bag in there to load up single tools and accessories.

Wow...you guys have some nice cordless collections!

I hate storing power tools...they dont fit neatly ANYWHERE! Plus they take up a $H!T ton of space in a tool box. Im going to try hanging them on either pegboard or on my fast track rails. The fast track stuff would get pricey for that type of stuff, but it is a handy system. If i can find begboard hooks that will work I will try that first.

I have a wheeled case that came with a large set of cordless tools, but it never really gets used - it just takes up a lot if space next to my workbench. I also have a couple of soft sided tool bags, and those are the ones that I really use. I take them up and down the stairs, and throw them both in the wheelbarrow if I'm working outside.

I really thought I'd like the wheeled case, and I still use it to store the tools, but it's just too bulky for use outside my shop.

These are older pictures from when I first got the 6pc. Ryobi kit. I built a board that uses the battery ports to stand them up in the deep drawers of my "non-mechanical" tool box. Base is 3/4" Plywood with pegs cut from scrap 2x4.

I've since added a bunch of tools, and I really need to get around to re-configuring this board and building a second one for the other deep drawer. Unfortunately that project has been "buried" on the to-do list for a while.

I've always wanted to put together a good size collection of defunct batteries, then mount them on the underside of a shelf, then the tools could just slide onto the batteries. I like the PVC hangers but it works best only on the pistol grip type tools.
Currently I keep home use tools in the bottom drawer of my 44 top, those tools that are only used at home, and tools used for work are strategically spread out in my cart and main tool bag.

I remember seeing PVC pipe to hold cordless drills, etc ... like your system. I can't where remember either.

I'd also forgotten why I brought home a 6' piece of 4" PVC, now I can get back to organizing my cordless tools.

I like the French Cleat system too, I've seen it used to hang cabinets on This Old House. I just wish I had more space to dedicate to it.

18v stuff sits in a later file drawer. M12 most tools sit in one of the smaller drawers of my 44" HF. the inspection cam and bandsaw sit in bottom drawer.

Batteries & charger for each sits in their own stanley bag.

You have to unlatch and take off each layer before accessing the others. Kinda a pain.

The french cleat system is awesome, that or old vertical filing cabinets.

Actually if you fold down the handle, you can leave the boxes connected and just unhinge the lower box and fold it back with the upper box connected.. I think its just the bottom box you have to remove the lid and upper boxes.. But yea I can see it being a pain to deal with..

My Craftsman C3 starter kit came in a blow mold box with wheels. Since I take the tools to the track in the trailer, much of the stuff is in there and I just toss in the bottom what isn't "molded for" plus some batteries and a couple of chargers. Lots of room.

I will be buying a couple of these for the trailer and the shop wall from Hepfner Racing Products. I think they are slick. They are at the PRI show in Indy Thurs, Fri, and Sat (Booth 4913). Ask them for the PRI show discount!

In the Dewalt bag they came in, behind the door under the workbench. If I need to go somewhere, I just grab the bag and go. If I need one at home, I just grab what I need.

There's an extra charger and 7 batteries in the bag. I have a shelf beside the workbench with two chargers on it. No need to grab a charger to take with me.

I store mine in the manufacturers tool bag, they spend 90% of their time in my work vehicle so it's been my best option so far.
