What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Wanted to change how the garage doors look. I was about to drop $100 on a different style grate/insert for the garage window. Then realized that the inserts that we have can be removed and the window is held in fine without it as long as the backing plate is on for the surrounding trim.

I am going to be doing the rest of them today when it warms up but I can't stand the little 4 fake window slat that is there. By removing that insert it makes the window bigger, AND lets it significantly more light into the garage. I'm actually amazed at how much light is blocked out via the insert.

I ended up going to lowes and picking up the Gila frosted paper to put on the inside of the window as to let light in but not let prying eyes see in. I have used the frosting spray but that wears out after a month due to the front facing sun hitting the house all day long. The frosting would start to crack and then disintegrate. I would have to reapply the spray every month. The film actually blocks UV rays which is awesome. Being able to take out the glass makes it super easy to apply the film as well. Spray solution on, lay film down and then boom cut with razor.

Looks odd now but that's ok, currently has a piece of cardboard taped over the window, looking ghetto as hell but at least we'll be the only neighbor with larger windows on the block compared to everyone having the "sun rise" or the 4 little windows... I think it will make it a little more modern looking.

I'll post more pics once I'm done in the morning.

Last picture attached is the photchopped of expected end result.

I just... fixed the Dremel Rotary Vacuum Tool...

I took it apart to investigate and I think I fixed it. It will cut right through drywall now... It's like 10x faster than it was. I think I might have to stay up late tonight and shoot some more video!

Glad to be of service.

I used to own a GT Snowracer stealth edition made by Noma. It looked like:

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1455959578.761526.jpg

But in my teenage years it got broken apart when my friend and I decided to pull them behind the snowmobiles. Because I loved mine when I was growing up I decided to get my kids them for Christmas this year those are the two black ones the rights are owned by Stiga now.

The one to the left is a original Snowracer before Noma purchased the rights so likely about 20-30 years old. I found that one abandoned at the curb on garbage day.

Lots of fun to be had:)

Replaced the front sway bar stabilizer links on my Ford Escape. Been klunking for a while now so I googled the problem and everyone says to replace the front sway bar stab links. I ordered the heavy duty Moogs with the grease fittings. Been waiting for a semi-warm day to tackle the replacement and yesterday it hit 56 degrees! Easy job to do and there were a couple of you tube videos to help out. Klunking stopped!

Went under vehicle for first time in 3 months, did a oil change. 3 more weeks the BACK brace comes off if I have not fastened caster wheels to it!

I'm editing the video this morning but it takes forever to render even once I'm done. I'll just let you in on the trick. The bearings were either going bad or dryed up. I recovered them by just soaking them with some PTFE lubricant. When I opened it up I spun the turbine by hand and it basically stopped as soon as you stopped turning it. I spun one of the bearings by hand and it had a ton of drag. Took the shaft/turbine assembly out of the casing, doused the bearings in lubricant, then spun it by hand and it kept spinning for a good 15 seconds. Reassembled it, hooked it up to my Shop-vac and it runs so much faster now it actually has the high pitched whine of a Dremel.

It's still pretty whimpy, but I'd say it now meets their claim of being as good as a 4.8v dremel. You could actually get some stuff done with it. The vacuum function still doesn't work though.

I'd like to know why the bearings were bad though on a brand new tool. Maybe they had a manufacturing or supply line problem that is causing these all to ****? In either case Dremel should figure it out because selling people the VRT1 in its original state just hurts their brand.

I'll post the video in a few hours though if you are still interested in seeing it actually kinda do some stuff. It's not an impressive performer but compared to the first video it is.

Tried to get stuff done for swapping out the new wood furnace in the garage. Seemed like things kept getting in my way and I couldn't make at progress.

Was just on top of the lean-to off the side of the garage shovelling snow. I use it to store my boat, lawn tractor, etc.. It doesn't have enough of a pitch and snow collects up there rather than slide off. Contemplating tearing it down, but the storage is nice, keeps the garage free for other projects.

Is that an advanced design GM (47-early 55) truck hood in the corner by the stove?

I hope your brace gets to stay off, they are no fun.

Added some framing above the garage doors, for the garage door opener. Playing now with my new router, learning how to route out hinge cutouts.

Installed a couple "Brinks" dead bolt door locks: One in the garage door and one on the utility room door.

Easy Peezy.

It's fun drilling big 2-1/8" holes through stuff

The week before I was in the Porsche Motorsport North America Headquarters garage in Atlanta for a 3 day class on GT3 Cup cars and GT3R learned a lot, they covered the 991 from top to bottom, knowledge overload!

This place is first class all the way.

Cleaning up and organizing all my hand tools that were dumped on the floor when my big tool boxes got stolen last week.

Not replacing them right away until all my overhead cabinets are built. Very well may not even go with top and bottom box and a halfs this time and stick to the normal ones that will fit behind my man door.

Air tools be kept to the bare essentials while the stolen ones get replaced with cordless power tools.

Thank god laid off in a week or two to get this shop ready for paint on the walls then I can start the cabinet builds.

Phantom, Sorry to hear your boxes got stolen! I'm assuming the layoff is an expected and temporary thing? Very few people look forward to one...

If you are starting from scratch again, give the Montezuma slant front top boxes some consideration. I'm not generally a top box fan these days, but that style puts so many tools at your fingertips without having to open and close a drawer... IMO perfect for a cart top other than you lose a work surface...

The wife and I went thru everything stored in the garage. Freed up lots of room on the shelves and got rid of 3 bags worth of donations.

My Shop is located in Lewis Center in the Polaris area just North of Columbus. I wish they were my toys, unfortunately I just build, work on and prepare them, someone else pays for them, but I do get to play with them:thumbup:

After the dog park, I got started on what felt like spring cleaning. Now all the pine needles and leaves are in the dumpster instead on the basketball court. Then off to the garage.

Picked these upright band saw bases a couple of weeks ago.

View media item 58315
Used a couple of old warn cup brushes on the grinder to take the paint off.

View media item 58316
The bases are well build. The holes for the bolts are cupped and the back edge of the bolt head is convex to match the bolt holes. Way cool. :pimpflash

Looking to keep them polished bare metal. The bases will be our bed stands.

Got the scuffs out but she hit it pretty good leaving some scratches, looks good from a few feet away.

Last night I worked on replacing the lower ball joints in my 92 Accord. Almost finished, just have to put the driver's side brake back on and reconnect tie rod. I should finish that up later today.

I also installed the other new baby seat in my wife's car.
