Wanted to change how the garage doors look. I was about to drop $100 on a different style grate/insert for the garage window. Then realized that the inserts that we have can be removed and the window is held in fine without it as long as the backing plate is on for the surrounding trim.
I am going to be doing the rest of them today when it warms up but I can't stand the little 4 fake window slat that is there. By removing that insert it makes the window bigger, AND lets it significantly more light into the garage. I'm actually amazed at how much light is blocked out via the insert.
I ended up going to lowes and picking up the Gila frosted paper to put on the inside of the window as to let light in but not let prying eyes see in. I have used the frosting spray but that wears out after a month due to the front facing sun hitting the house all day long. The frosting would start to crack and then disintegrate. I would have to reapply the spray every month. The film actually blocks UV rays which is awesome. Being able to take out the glass makes it super easy to apply the film as well. Spray solution on, lay film down and then boom cut with razor.
Looks odd now but that's ok, currently has a piece of cardboard taped over the window, looking ghetto as hell but at least we'll be the only neighbor with larger windows on the block compared to everyone having the "sun rise" or the 4 little windows... I think it will make it a little more modern looking.
I'll post more pics once I'm done in the morning.
Last picture attached is the photchopped of expected end result.
