You're kidding right? Is your fuel filter going to be like your axles where we discuss all of the tool and axle possibilities only not to do them?

On the forward side of your filter is a 20mm hex nut that is part of the filter. The hex fitting that scews into it is 16mm. The little white/grey plastic tabs on the aft portion of your filter that go into the fuel line can be easily squeezed with your fingers. However, if you're worried about breaking a nail, you can use this type of plier for extra grip. http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/p-2896-knipex-3891200.aspx
Ensure that the o rings inside the fuel line don't fall out.

Good god you make a chore out of something as simple as a fuel filter replacement. Grab a 20mm wrench and a 16 or 17mm wrench and undo the hard line, then squeeze the white tabs with your fingers and pull the filter loose. It's not rocket science, and should only take you a minute or two. If you break the white clip, you can buy a five pack of them at any autoparts store for under $5.

Those release tools aren't for Merk's buick. Those tools work well on Tahoes and Suburbans where you slide the release tool into the fuel line fitting to depress little steel fingers holding the filter. The Buick pictured above has an external plastic clip.

You're right. Sorry bout that.
That tool is for quick connections that do not have the external release fingers.

I'm going to ship my tools to Clovis and fix Merk's car for him..

You don't want to walk down that trail, it's loaded with booby traps.

I can hear Merk now, my car was fine until you touched it.... My car is making a new noise since you worked on it.... there's are scratches on my lug nuts from you removing them with an impact wrench.....

No, be happy that you are far far away from his car.

It usually helps on these to push the line towards the filter at the same time you squeeze the plastic tabs together, then just pull the line off. The plastic clip will stay on the filter. And as other's have said, this is about as easy of a fuel line connection as you'll ever deal with .

Yes, they're called fingers. Squeeze together and pull the black part off. ;)

+1, the white clip stays on the filter, the new Wix filter will have a new clip with it, if needed. Look at the line Merk, you can see where the white clip sits in the line cutouts, comes of easy, no need to do anything with the "pin".

yep, you will nedd a 20 mm wrench. I have a Cornwell flare/open end, just for this purpose. If you don't have a 20mm, an adjustable or vise grips will suffice.

Not concerned about my finger nails; I'm more concerned about the line fitting.

then squeeze the white tabs with your fingers and pull the filter loose. It's not rocket science, and should only take you a minute or two.

I figure they must make the special tool for a reason........

Those release tools aren't for Merk's buick.

Which ones are then? Get on the web and find them for me.

No Merk., those tools are for the internal disconnects, with no outer tabs. Just squeeze the two ears in, and pull off the fuel line.

If you are confused, go down to your local parts store, most filter have a new clip already one one side of the filter, they have replacement line there, use one and practice the apply and removal procedure, before you take it off your car.

I usually alleviate fuel pressure before taking off the lines, I don't like wearing gas, but besides that it is simple.

Why are there 5 million different line tools on the market for then?

Because some fuel lines require a tool, apparently yours doesn't. Why don't you try to seperate it with your hands and see what happens. It will just go back together as long as you don't break anything or lose any o rings and such :)

the air hack cuts the tube of the fuel filter
then using a standard release tool and needle nose - pull the tube out

Bad idea, possible sparks from an air hack, and not necessary, risk of fire................................no electric tools either:shocking:

Man you guys are giving me a headache. Most importantly merk discharge the fuel line pressure before you loosen or cover with a rag. As others said you dont need a tool for type. Squeeze and pull...
