Re: What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Built a stand/box for my table saw, mostly so it has a slightly smaller footprint and to catch saw dust. Put a slanted price of drywall in it to direct the dust to the front, where eventually I'll out an outlet for the vacuum.

Next I'll add some locking casters.

I really like that blade storage on the side, none of mine have had that

Nice stand. Nice saw. Hate to rain on your parade, but why a front exit for dust collection? All that stuff going on your feet, not to mention a trip hazard, even with a hose....

Edit: Never mind, I see the blade, so it is going to the side. Me bad.
Just thinking.

Hi John,

Yeah I think of it as the front just because it points toward the front of the garage! :silly:

The saw is a cheapo craigslist Ryobi, and the stand I had was too wide at the base and hard to move. This will make it easier to move in and out of the shop and to the side when not in use.

I finally got the old cast iron Coca-Cola bench back done!! I don't get to do a ton of "art" projects but when they come around, I really dig 'em. This one was no exception. My customer gave me a few parameters but basically turned me loose and said "Have fun!" ... so I did. :D I tried my best to make the Coke bottle look real.

Here it is on arrival. I'm not sure if this was the original paint job or not; I could only find one other just like it on Google images (and it was white).

I did a short YouTube video too. Still pictures provide little justice with metallic candy powders, and even the video doesn't truly capture the jewel-like results.

The legs weighed even more than the back part (it's 43 pounds!!) so my customer is getting those done locally in Indiana. (I'm selling him the rest of the bag of black to make sure the legs match what I did.)

Now I finally see an application for powder coating that seems worth the trouble.

Sold my truck's fiberglass bed cap to a guy on Craigslist (cash sale)

He arrived here early this morning. We removed the fiberglass cap from my truck and put it on his. Perfect fit. I wasn't using it really. Happy to have the open bed back.

After that I cleaned and waxed my truck. That was enough for me outside. Too hot out.

"Fixed" the ATV shift lever, it was not going into park properly during my ride yesterday. Turns out the Can-Am shifter lock was engaged while it was not in Park which interrupted full movement. Then I washed the dirty girl and installed the new club's identification sign.

Proud of myself I then enjoyed BBQ chicken and smoked a cigar for dessert!

Spent the better part of 2 evenings working on my Kubota tractor. There is a known issue with the height adjuster on my mower deck - you will be mowing along and it will drop completely. Have tried the fix on the internet, which appeared to work, but then I noticed that it seemed to be mowing at the same height regardless of setting. Gave up on the adjuster and began to look for other issues. Unfortunately, I found it - the frame area that supports the lift shaft had cracked and fallen down about 3/4". I think this happened during one of the deck drop episodes while turning up my hill.

I have taken all the brackets, shafts, edjusters, etc. off, ground the area and then beat it back into place. Welded everything up and have started putting things back. This is where the problems start - the shaft is OK, but something in the mounts or brackets is bent just enough to prevent an easy bolt up. Been working on it with BFH and think I have have it back where it needs to be. Shaft works with no binding. Just need to get some new 10 x 1.25 x 25mm hardened bolts and make it all secure. The factory bolts stripped as I was trying to pull the shaft mount back into place (stupid move :(). Had to use a tap with a 6" Crescent to chase the mounting holes out in the worst possible place. Lesson learned and the bolts held just long enough for the BFH to finish the job.

Started yesterday evening, called it quits at midnight and finished up this morning installing a lift kit on my cousins truck.

Ended up bending a few C-Clamps trying to add a new leaf to the existing leaf spring, is there a special tool for this that I just couldn't find on google?

- Totally forgot to get a finished picture of it before he headed back to Atlanta.

Logan, it sounds like you need beefier C-Clamps...

What were you using?

I think that was the case, two were just some cheapo's that he bought from Advance Auto. 6in that started to bend as we got it fully compressed.

I had 2 others, that were beefier, I think they may have been some older Bessey clamps? Not sure, but they held up better.

They all had those handles with the rod through them, I am searching for some that might have a head head on the end so I can use a wrench to tighten them down.

Couple different places. Shoot me a PM and I will get you the details this week. Pole was free, but it's not cheap to buy the flag pole parts.

No big deal, I was just curious. Where I'd love to put a flag pole is just too close to our service entrance. I don't want something to happen and it get tangled in that.

Drilled and put some new spiral pins in my MSD distributors.

Set the front tires of the Mustang up on some 4x6 blocks, slid under and drained the break in oil.

Try some Vulcan clamps - quite stout. You can usually find some for sale on eBay. Here are a trio of #2's, but you probably need something little bit larger.

Used my new-to-me shop press to straighten the handles on my Wilton C0, finally completing the resto I started a couple of years ago.

I didn't get much done last night in the shop. I had to wash and vacuum my Jeep from last weeks trip. I then had a couple of small projects to complete for other people so I can move on to some projects that I want to do this next week.

While doing that I had to remove the cross member and drop the power steering to remove oil pan.

I didn't get a whole lot done actually "IN" my shop last night like I had planned.

I got home from work and it was 100 degrees but I have been fighting some dry spot in my front parkway that were not getting adequate coverage. I have been going out once or twice a week and spot watering them with a hose but I opted to replace four of my sprinkler head with some that would provide better coverage. I thought about doing that earlier in the spring so I wouldn't have to spot water this summer but hey, it was only in the 60's when I thought about it so the lawn looked amazing. Why not just wait until the ambient temperatures are in the triple digits????:eyecrazy:

After sweating my *** off for about two hours replacing sprinkler heads, I then noticed a slight gap in my rear door going from my garage out into the back yard so I wanted to caulk that before any insects could get in and before winter so I grabbed some caulking and went to work. This again was on the back of my house (west side) so the sun was bearing right down where I was working. Holy **** I didn't think that through.

Afterwards I went out to the coach to inspect my exhaust as I suspected something was amiss driving home from vacation last week. Coming down off of a long, steep mountain grade with mountain on one side and K-rails on the other I thought I detected a slight tick of an exhaust leak. It was hard to hear as the engine is 40 feet behind me but I thought I could hear something that didn't sound right.

I lifted the floor in the closet and started looking around for a broken bolt or exhaust manifold gasket blown out as I had to repair that about 55k miles ago when we first purchased the coach in 2007. NOPE, no broken bolts, however the exhaust manifold was broken in between cylinders 3 and 4. I called Rocky Mountain Cummins and they actually had all of the manifold components and hardware/gaskets in stock so I am going to run and grab them today so I can replace the exhaust manifold on Saturday. I hope it will be a little cooler on Saturday as the news predicts, but we all know how that goes.

Mike.

I trouble shot a car one of my kids picked up cheap because it was 'leaking coolant'. All I could find was that the radiator cap was bad letting it boil over - $6 at Napa. But decided while I was there I would replace the hoses and thermostat and flush the cooling system. Napa had to order a lower hose, so hopefully it will be finished later today.
