Been looking for Craftsman underline combination wrenches to go in my little blue box (like Outlaw suggested), but finding these DBEs instead...

I just looked and saw two Penncraft dbe wrenches on eBay. The raised panel on them was trapezoidal and the offset neck leading to the box ends were sort of scoop shaped.
Pretty sure I've seen them in the wild, too. None of my own.

Sounds like Barcalo made to me. I think o have some Penncraft DBE, I should take a second look at them.

I think the JCpenny wrenches were made by SK, so if they is any DBEs out there they will bring money. I know I don't own any.

If they look like the attached pictures and are stamped Penncraft they were made by New Britain. The pictured ones are Husky from 1973 when I worked there. The wrenches were sent to the warehouse unstamped. They were stamped to the sales order in the warehouse. Could be Husky, Sparta, or Penncraft

anytime there is jcpenney on ebay it goes for a fortune.

i was looking for a rhft ratchet branded jcpenney and it ended up going for 62 bucks! ended up finding one at a sale shortly after for only 4 bucks. their sockets bring good money online as well. i try to hold onto them when i find them. i swear the chrome on them holds up better than the sk branded sockets.

Yep - the Penncraft branded tools were made by New Britain, and the later JCPenney branded tools were made by S-K.

Come to think of it, I don't recall ever having seen a DBE in either brand. Combos and DOE's, yes. But, then, I don't like DBE's anyway.

sold! [emoji38]

[emoji106]

I thought they looked pretty good, myself, but I already have a 741 Indestro Super with that hex shank. I think my 743 is the later "oval-y" shank.
The box arrived yesterday. They are as good as the auction pics. This was a good buy (thanks, four.cycle) for just over $2 a wrench -- I guess my price point is moving up...

Indestro Super 743 hex sided deep offset stubby, 5/8" x 11/16"
Indestro Super 742 deep offset stubby, 1/2" x 9/16"
Super Quality 741 raised panel deep offset stubby, 3/8" x 7/16"
Thorsen 2216 angled 9/16" x 1/2"
Fleet 6518 offset stubby , 9/16" x 1/2"
Fleet 6524 offset stubby , 3/4" x 5/8"

The next two are oddballs.

"HM" on one side, "RKA" on the other, both logos, no sizes, 6-pt

This one's not actually a DBE, but it's a very interesting triple socket tool, pre-SAE sizes
Walden-Worcester 5660, marked "7/16" over "8/16" on one side and "11/16" on the other. Oddly, the sockets on the side with the smaller markings at larger than the one socket on the side with the larger marking.

A few added from today's yard-sailing:

Indestro, TuHex, and Willaims.

The TuHex? is apparently an Economy line for Bonney from the 30's? :dunno: New one on me!

When I worked for New Britain I was told we talked to Honda about making their wrench kits. We checked some of the wrenches and they were much thicker than the American counterparts and were not very hard. We commented that we could make the wrenches from good, heat treated steel and make them much thinner while still meeting the same specs. This would give them a lighter kit that would take up less space.
The answer was that the nuts were also not very good steel and when the wrench was made thick enough to avoid damaging the nuts it did not have to be very good to do it's job.

This may or may not be true, I got the story about third hand.

Nice adds, all! No finds for me this weekend and none projected for the next three weeks. I'll be offline, out west with my son's Boy Scout troop at the Philmont high adventure base camp in New Mexico. It'll be lots of fun, but almost zero chance of having spare time to hunt DBEs.

Hey, me too! Mine came from eBay after a short bidding war. And then I picked up a bigger double offset (15/16x1) at the flea Saturday. All my LectroLite together for a family photo.

Here is my small but hopefully-staying-the-same-size DBE wrench collection.

For SAE I have a motley crew of brands and styles: Proto, Craftsman E and -V-, TecoMaster Professional (rumored to be made by Snap-On?), New Britain, Williams, Snap-On Canada, and Bonney.

In metric they are all -V- Craftsman although one of the midgets is missing.

Here are my favourite Britool spanners, double box end wrenches, 6mm up to 27mm in 9RBM standard pattern with an earlier 2RBM 30-32mm up at the top (the forging is slightly different, similar to their older DBE spanners). Lower on the left are the 6RBM short pattern spanners in 8-19mm sizes, and a tiny 5-5.5mm RHM hex pattern fellow at the bottom:

View media item 58887
I'm also lucky enough to have an SAE set in 1/4" up to 7/8". None of the later Taiwanese stuff, they were all Made in England from the finest chrome alloy steel!

I don't want to be left out of the starter/manifold wrench group so here is a pair of Barcalo Buffalos.
