Long story short, my weed whacker starter cord broke, including the wind up spring, so I use a socket on my drill and start it that way.

Well my craftsman c3 cordless went up in smoke today when I tried to start it. Drill is a little over a year old. I'll see if sears helps me out, (highly doubt it) and from there I'll see what I can get into. All the big brands arent what they used to be, but Im leaning towards starting with dewalt. Im sure as hell not spending $400 on a drill/driver kit.

The Dewalt 20 volt kit that goes on sale for about $99 a couple of times a year is much better than the Craftsman drills. More torque and a better chuck. I have 3 Craftsman drills and even with the XCP 4 ah batteries they can't compare to the Dewalt. Just my opinion of course. I've had the Dewalt for 3 years now and it has never let me down.

Yeah i just called sears to see if they could look up when I bought it. I think its roughly a year old but I dont have the receipt still. They said you need a receipt or they cant help you. Waste of money. Took them literally a minute of ringing before they picked up the phone. Classic sears. It is what it is folks right?!

Found the e-receipt in my old email! Turns out I paid for a protection plan too. The warranty dept on the phone couldnt look me up either so everybody was happy to give me the finger. On my way to sears now to get a replacement.

Well I went to sears to find "bubba-I-dont-give-a-****" who handed me a pamphlet and said call that number.

Basically I have to ship it to them and once verified theyll give me store credit. What a Joy!!!!!!! Thank god I dont need this for a job otherwise I'd be SOL. Do yourselves a favor and dont rely on craftsman tools. (I'm sure many of you already learned that).

EFF that. Call them up and scream at them that you need this drill tomorrow to finish a job. I would...

At the very least they better be paying for the shipping.

Man **** sears. I had to pay for a box and to print a shipping label. All of this to mail back my defective drill, just to get a gift card to buy another!!!! How about swapping it out and having the EMPLOYEE'S handle that ****! No, I gotta drive around town to UPS and pay. Never again.

Were you still within the first year of ownership? That would fall under the OEM warranty, which when I worked at Sears we would swap out at the store (not sure if that was official policy or not).

After the first year, you're stuck with Sears' extended warranty, which is as you describe. I think most extended warranties operate much like this. It's kind of a sham, but I had many customers very happy with it. Of course, it depends on whether or not you read the terms when you buy it.

The impact and drill are the only cordless tools I own. I believe I'll be starting over with DeWalt. Atleast theyre partially USA made and I've had good customer service experiences with them in the past.
