Fellas, can I do a drive-by question in this thread? I've seen a couple of you post your rotating vises and a short list of companies who've made a high quality, US version of the style, but I can't find them. Anyone know off hand which makers to look for of the rotating vises? I understand they're very uncommon.

could do with more photos but as it seems to have a slot in the side of the base, I'd say it used to be a swivel vice and someone after loosing the base stuck the bolt in the middle hole where the base used to bolt on..

Also looks like the numbers are part numbers for ordering the fixed and dynamic separately.. could this be military ? I know when we used to make climbing gear for the army we didn't add a makers name to avoid becoming a target.. we just added part numbers. just a thought.

Yeah I have no Idea if its Military seems pretty small for that though. Probably right about the swivel base though. I'll try to use it as is when I do light filing work. It should be fine for that. Thanks for the reply.

any other markings?

Bottom line is that it is an exposed screw homeowners vise. The slide and dynamic jaw are sprung a bit to each other, and probably doesn't weigh in excess of 12 lbs or so.

No other markings anywhere .It's definitely not 44lbs but I haven't weighed it. Seems somewhere in between your suggestion and the latter. Just curious about it, never seen one. Tiny little table and horn too. You can't see it in the pic but the table it beat to hell like chisel marks. Hard life for sure. Thanks for the info.

Yes, but the description is not much help. In the condition notes section, it says that it's silver plated/painted, but the original color (underneath) was blue (that's probably our only clue as to maker). In the item description section, it just says that it is high quality and continuously (without steps) swivel-able 180° from horizontal to vertical.

Grouseman, Bl00 and Joe: Thank you gentleman. I'd sure like to have one of these. I picked up a Chinese one today that's 75 pounds at five inches, so it's pretty beefy, but I'm on the lookout for a real one.

Well I got my German vise a couple of days ago.---Came from across the pond.---And it's a monster.---Had to use a railroad jack for reference, a Bud Lite just wouldn't do.---I like odd and it's the first one I've seen that has a banded brake system on the rotating head.---Works by cam action increasing pressure on the bands.---I think it's German, but the paint is so thick I can barely make out some of the letters, and the description the seller gave was in German so I don't know what he was saying about it.

Very cool! Is that the one that I posted the link to on eBay Germany?

Got a lead on a Prentiss 96 and am checking it out tonight. What's a reasonable price if in good - great shape? 200 bucs or is that pushing it?? Weighs around 155lbs with a swivel base - fixed jaws.

155 lbs., good to great, swivel base, I'd pay $200.00 for it.

I prefer GREAT.:D

Yeah...I'd prefer GREAT too :bounce:!!

Pics that I forgot to add to original post. It's got something funky going on with the anvil portion, not sure what though.

SK, that looks like a big chunk knocked off the anvil/not an anvil section, which can be welded back in and could be a good bargaining chip to get the price greatly reduced, maybe.---Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to try and the rest looks pretty good.

Good luck.

Latest Craigslist find....5" Wilton bullet for $50! The guy said he knew he was giving it away, but wanted it gone. I called at 8am and he said I was the first caller, and got first shot at it. When I met him he said his phone had been ringing all day with folks asking about it....go figure, right?

Scored these 4 over past few weeks. Stock in up for winter projects.
$20 for the prentiss bulldog No 50 great condition except a crack in the back so I'll keep this little guy for myself after I restore
$20 for the Reed 204r awesome condition don't think jaws were ever used without the covers
$30 for both craftsmans both rusted to hell but I'll fix them up.

Picked up this big Parker 60X today. I was lucky to get it as the guy said he was getting emails all night and day for it. it turned out to be only a half hour ride from work. This vise was removed from an old machine shop that closed up years ago. For some reason when they moved out of the building they left behind a workbench with this vise attached to it. It was just removed from that building today. By me. :willy_nil
This vise is huge! 32 inches long and stands 17 inches tall. I've seen old Parker ads with this vise advertised as weighing 265 lbs. it seems bigger. And heavier. The only flaw with this monster is the small crack in the tail end. Which can be fixed. But, because of that crack I was able to get it at half his original asking price.

don't really know much about this tiny vise. It was my great grandfather's, we found it in his little work shop that was falling down when my dad and I tore it down a few years ago. I use it quite often at work as it clamps onto the handle of my matco box perfectly when I need it and stores away in a drawer when not in use.

Boe, look at the head of the main screw for any markings at all, that style of double rod clamp on as made/sold by a lot of different companies over the years,

All this other suckage is beyond belief...

Look closely at the spindle nose. In my are these are all made by Millers Falls. Take good care of it. No huge value but huge history.

Nice, just fixed my crack in my 79 which is around 1/2 of your vise size at 150lbs. You got a big vise, you are lucky. If you fix the crack be sure to post how you did it.
