Finally got around to snapping some pics of my 2 little carry around boxes. The one with the stickers is a no-name box that my girlfriend gave me as a going away gift when I moved a thousand miles away from her in about 1997. Just barely sneaks in under the "vintage" label, I guess. I use it for rescue missions.

The Kennedy was given to me by a widow at church when I was helping her sort her departed husband's belongings. I'd appreciate any help dating it. It's about to go into regular duty carrying the tools I use in my role as maintenance guy at church. The Klein bag I've been using for that job for 5 years, and in my job as voice and data installer for 10 years before that, is worn out.
That's so nice she has it to you, and now, you'll use it in the church.!
Not over 40ish years old on the Kennedy.

So dinner and a movie to start on the dating, Flowers too soon might be overkill.

If you are using the Tapatalk app on your phone, it will add the ginormous pictures of you insert pictures as you take them. In other words, selecting the camera icon.

I discovered that if you take the pictures first with your camera app, and then insert them using the Photo button, they show up as normal sized.

Fresh photo w/ camera button:

Edit: as you can see, sometimes using the camera from inside Tapatalk also screws up the orientation.

Same scene taken first with camera app:

I am not so sure about that. It may depend on the phone hi I am using a Motorola Moto G second generation and if I upload a picture here of course it looks okay here when I go to my regular 24 inch monitor computer the pictures are too big so again it may depend on the phone. Again your mileage may vary.

I just sent them an email. The nice lady said she thought she could find a replacement door, I just needed to send her pictures and measurements. I have not had time to do it. Well, really I got side tracked on another Craftsman chest.

Ewwwww is right. In addition to the rust and bent stuff, it must have been used for a taco stand. Whenever I grind, cut or sand, it smells like a Mexican restaurant.

Thanks Outlaw. I'll try that. My problem was that I only had certain pictures on my android phone, and I could not figure out how to put them directly into a thread so they show up automatically. Obviously I can't operate my phone or computer very well.

I agree. I take the pictures with my phone and then E-Mail them to myself. I then open the E-Mail and "save the pictures as" to my desktop. Then I upload them from my desktop. Probably the long way around but it works perfectly.

Odd craftsman roll cab

I just got this craftsman box, it has 7 drawers and 1 cabinet in the front and 2 cabinets in the back.
Researching, I've only found 1 similar, made by Proto.
Anybody have one and or a catalog page?
What vintage is it?
Seems like it is going to make a fine mobil work bench.
Thanks for any insight.

I have seen a proto like this before but your photos are really small. Can you make them larger? BTW very nice find.

FJ,
I have not got this to the shop yet and can get a few better pics when I do.
I bid on this lot, because there was a magdrill motor that I need.
The box is a real bonus, I'm tickled.

Check the Blackburn/Rose Tools Catalog scans of Craftsman catalogs and see if you can find it there. I have not seen a Craftsman like that one, but I'm definitely not an expert. Cool box, and a great find.

Now that would be ideal for my cramped shop! It would fit between the bench and parts washer with the walker turner roosting on top and roll out to access the cabinets.

Zee,
I did not find it on the blackburn scans, but that is a great resource, thank you.

I got the box to the shop this evening and could not be happier about this deal.
This box is in very good shape.
Missing one drawer stop, one broken door chain, one dent and missing two locks and the keys.
This thing is really stout, has great castors, even has a jack leg to keep it from moving.
Bonus tools, 1/2 impact, 3/8 impact, magdrill motor, air hammer and what is labeled as a commutator dresser.
Here is a few pics

That is a nice box! The "jack leg" is a brake to keep it from rolling.

That gooseneck air hammer, if working right, is very powerful. I have to use a 1/2" air hose on mine to get enough air volume. A common shank on the bits is .680 round with either a round or oval retainer. There is a .580 hex shank, too. They are several times more powerful than the common .401 shank tools. Hang on tight when you use it!!!!!

Thanks,
Early in my working life, i spent a lot of hours behind these hammers beading boiler tubes. Brings back bittersweet memories of the dirty work inside those fireboxes.
Any idea on a good source for tools for it?

I feel pretty comfortable saying both boxes were made by waterloo.

I would agree with made by Waterloo. Those slides definitely give that away.

Royce, back in the day Waterloo made tool boxes for a lot of people it's just depends on they where branded. It could have a Proto, Mac, Waterloo, Cornwell or Craftsman handles all on same box.

Figure out what shank you have and google it. For instance, ".680 shank oval" and you will get lots of hits. I got a few when Harbor Freight closed out their gooseneck hammer, and the rest came from garage sales and industrial surplus.

I cut off one bit flat on the end and clamped a rubber hose around it. The hose holds ground rods centered on the bit while driving them. They go in fast!

Thanks to all for the info.
I had a gob of chores to do today, but all I did was fart around the shop, fiddling with this box
Pulled the castors apart and got the old grease out and new grease in.
Cleaned and relubed the slides.
Cut a piece of bowling lane laminate to replace the masonite on the top.
The laminate is 1/2" thick and really stout.
It should be easy to clean and most glues won't stick to it.
I started thinking about mounting a vise or two to it.
My choices for bench vises are Prentiss#50, Reed#103, Parker#973, Rock Island#591 or a Versavise.
For pipe vises, Armstrong#71, Holland#182, a 2"Ridgid yoke or a ridgid chain vise.
These decisions are killing me!

Unless you do a lot of pluming, I would drop the Pipe vises from the list. I would keep the versa vise on the list personally. Maybe not in the main use location, but handy.

Any of the 3 inchers would be a good choice for a tool box vise, maybe the one that has the best work height for you? Any of them have jaws close to elbow height on top of the box?

Outlaws,
I do quite a bit of plumbing and pipefitting, plus I find pipe vises handy for round bar as well.
I'm leaning towards the C-frame 182 Hollands, mounted at the end, at a height that would let the bench support the work.
I was also pondering putting a couple flush mounts for the VersaVise.
The best vise I own, hands down is the Rock Island, it's really a honey.
The parker has the most height from top of the jaws to the slide and the fastest pitch on the screw, both features I like.
I was also thinking about mounting it at the end with the top of the slide even with the top of the bench, again to have the bench support the work.
That would mean the jaws would be short of elbow height, but I have others that are at that height.
Thanks for your thoughts
Royce
