I picked up this vise it has a 4" jaw face it also has no name on it or numbers.
I stripped the old original paint off it ( the original color was dark aquamarine color) once cleaned there was no evidence that anything had been ground off so I just painted it. Here are some photos if anyone has any information it would be appreciated. Thanks.

My guess is a Morgan or a Rock Island

Yep, been waiting, I paid up, but I wanted one...
Thanks Kevin, I haven't decided what to do with it yet, but we may need a set just for Sundays, HAHA!
The weather got a little tough, but I was looking at the vise in my rearview the whole time, so visibility wasn't an issue.:lol_hitti

Thanks GUYs!
Take care!
Merry Christmas!

Finally got my 80C 8" Yost mounted to my "multi-task" work bench. It makes the 5" Colombian look tiny. :eyecrazy: I mounted the 4 1/2" Morgan to my other bench and will move the 5" Powercraft to a stand I made from a semi drum.

Anyone else a fan of the little athol clamp on vises? Here's two sizes a no 2 and no 1. I think I'm just missing the no 0 to complete the quick release models.

SRR: nice looking big YOST and with pipe jaws too.

T4: i'm not so sure it's a MORGAN, but i'm with 99 that it probably was made by MORGAN. MORGAN made vises and put a lot of different names on them so maybe if yours doesn't have any casting name it could have maybe had a sticker sort of like Wilton does for Snap on or John Deere vises that they make for those companies.

Zoomie: Your son looks maybe his ride home with a huge vise was almost as fun as yours. i had a lucky guess since you posted a sideways picture of it showing the side without any writing on it. WELL DONE SIR

just curious since you buy a lot of big iron did you lift that 58 into your car in one piece by yourself or did you use the seller's engine lift or have him help you? so how did you get it out and into your Sea of Tetnus?

The disassembly proses is underway for the monarch. The removal of the jaws was a chore once I got the screws to break loose had to work them back and fourth a hundred times to get them backed out.the dynamic jaw had paper under it I'm guessing as a shim of sorts

DIF, he's a great kid, my girlfriends son, but we get him 24/7, he's a hard worker and hasn't found an accelerator he doesn't like!
He didn't make the trip though, 10 hours in a car on the first day on snow... NO WAY!
The seller had a bobcat with forks, worked out great.
I haven't decided where I'm putting it yet, I have two houses and two other properties I work out of, so we'll see.
No matter what, it will be fit for a monumental base, I've got my top engineer on it.

Take Care!

Ah, you picked it up, congrats!
What color are you thinking?
I would love to see the Lion head in gold or silver leaf on a shiny black vise...

Keep us informed!

Finished this bad boy up tonight....Snap-On 1740 that started out red, but wanted to be Extreme Green! Unfortunately, I can't keep all the vises I restore, so this one is going to need a new home soon, but it was a fun project. I had to post this over in the Green Snap-On thread just to share the coolness....I'm pretty tickled with how this turned out.

Really sharp, GMan ... should go for a mint!

Nice 58 Zoom! Can't wait to see what you have in store.

Great work (as always) on that Reed double swiveler, CroA ... definitely a good color.

MOOR: sorry you are learning the HARD WAY about buying vises off of a PICTURE. i've bought a couple vises that i wish i hadn't over the years, but they still will be or were good parts vises. that might not be what you wanted to hear.

that said can you post up more pictures of the dynamic's slide cause if it's ok and the jaw is ok a good dynamic is a great part to have on a 6 inch 100 year old Monarch. in fact you might find another Monarch with a bad dynamic and a good swivel and vise nut and you've got yourself a very nice old heavy BIG vise.

sorry i couldn't see the broken mount in the picture. I actually started a thread about broken vises a few years ago to try and help members notice things before they spent their money.

CA: any pictures of the 404.5 naked to post or was it a quick decision to paint it? nice color and great looking vise and restoration.

GMAN: i've got a vise exactly like yours in the before picture and i have to say you did a very nice job. did you order the paint directly from Snap on or do you still have a Snap On guy drive up in a truck that might carry it in his van?

Jim: thanks for the 411 about my little Craftsman L shaped vise and makes sense.

Thanks! I'm surprised how much I like the bright green :D

I ordered the paint directly from Snap-On, but let me say this...it's not cheap :scared:

Srr, that Yost is an awesome vise, but I suspect you're going to find it's too tall to be mounted on most benches, and still be comfortable to use. Unless you're 7' tall of course......

CA: not sure if you know this, but some of us set up our pages to open for the most recent post so i have no idea what page that would be, but i'll find it. i mentioned this to VA and a few other members that mentioning the post # helps this issue, but not perfect either cause if a member passes on to REAL VISE HEAVEN or just gets banned for talking politics or stuff then posts can get eliminated in the thread to change the post method.

in any case thanks for letting me know that was the only 404.5 picture you had with BLO and i hope you like the new color and find a good spot for that vise.

GMAN: maybe if you send Snap ON some pictures of the vise maybe they will send you a free (non pricey) can and send Wilton paint to paint their vises this bright green cause they look a lot better than the red they paint them.

ALL: not that i care much about #'s of posts because i've been multiple posting since i joined, but i just noticed i have 2600 posts just on this one vise thread. i've learned a lot, made a lot of good friends and probably drove some members crazy with all my questions. thank you all for supporting this thread and me and for giving us a place to show off and talk about our vises. i know i talk a lot about selling off my vises, but only cause i don't want to pay for storage and most are finding good homes on GJ member's benches. it's hard for me not to buy more so if any of you NEED a vise you can email or PM me, but i'm not exactly desperate and not all are for sale.

cheers

There has been a 6 inch Pittsburgh Automatic Vise located and bought, (not me), and looks to be in excellent condition.---Came out of Pittsburgh appropriately enough.---Will try to procure pictures if another member doesn't get them first.---One step closer to the big one.

Edit----After seeing a bigger pic of the Pittsburgh, there might be a place on the jaw that I couldn't see on my little phone screen.---But it's still a beautiful piece of machinery.:eyecrazy:

The Wilton magnet struck again....450 in pretty decent condition. I had missed out on several 450s over the last year, and managed two in 3 days....crazy.

I think I saw someone say a while back that the dual pinned Wilton's are a little rarer?
Someone's asking $140 for this in my area.. No size/ numbers listed

Wish I had the other hole location, need a dimension closer then a tape measure reading. Might need both hole locations if the one hole is located in a different place.

I have found that Reed's pipe jaws are pretty close to Wiltons except the C0 and 1C models. The teeth are all identical on all.

I think that safety green and Grabber green are cool colors just no my flavor. If I come across a Wilton 1750 I would give it a go just to see what it looked like in person. Defiantly wont miss place it.

I kick myself for selling the one I restored. I didn't get $600 but did sell it for a decent price. I would give $140 if there are no cracks or repairs

Is 101169 a Wilton C1 or Tradesman body (static) part number? The vise looks like a C1 but does not have the identifying marking cast in. Probably from the 1980s-1990s, with the Made in USA sticker on the dynamic jaw.
Thanks.

I suspect part of the reason his went so high was that it was a Chicago C0 with double pins, rather than a Schiller Park C0 with double pins....but that's just a guess.
