Dean: post up some pictures maybe the next time you stop by your son's house of your cool blueprint (flat file) cabinet you made a frame and workbench out of. also want to hear if your son still likes it and is he using it. WELL DONE!!

Jeff: i actually found and bought a Huot drill bit holder after seeing you post yours a couple years ago and come to think of it i need to fill it up. also your link only goes to one picture and then ads so if you might just download the pictures using the paperclip attachment method GJ provides they will be here forever. i think Imgur doesn't like GJ's classified section for some reason and creates issues.

thanks for posting and i bet they are cool. also if you would like to take pictures of the VERY COOL LOCKS and other collections you've acquired i for one would love to see some and how you stay organized.

cheers

I live my Huot drill dispenser! I'll have to take new pics of my cabinets and such. I have some stuff that I think is neat and I've never posted here before. I love commercial storage, especially the vintage stuff.

The locks are mostly in Midwest Fastener bolt bins from the hardware store. I have some padlocks hanging on the wall from screws, nothing fancy. Cylinders, keys, parts etc are in plastic Plano boxes.

EDIT - I clicked on the imgur link and it shows the whole album of 8 pictures.

Jeff: you are right. i was clicking on the NEXT tab and getting ads instead of just scrolling down. looks like you are very ORGANIZED. care to pass on some of that via a prayer so maybe someday i can GET ORGANIZED.

i suppose it doesn't help that i buy workbenches with vises when i don't NEED either.

ALL: post up those metal cabinets. i actually found this one and couldn't find a spot for it so sold it on CL in about an hour. he's a great kid that drove 2 hours to pick it up and he said it would go in his well in his garage with all his other vintage tools.

Equipto sure makes nice cabinets. this one the owner even made a couple custom wood handles.

cheers all and have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Picked up this S-O cabinet last week at a tool sale in Alameda, CA for $25.00. It was filthy but cleaned up pretty well. Its now holding my WW2 canteens and mess kits.

well got a chance to stop over my son's house (had to help him put a handrail on his porch steps) took a few pictures. he is still pleased with it and hasn't decided exactly what he wants to store in the drawers.

heres a pic of it all set up in the basement.

thumbnail_IMG_1211.jpg

in the top drawer he is storing some tools

thumbnail_IMG_1206.jpg

in the next drawer is misc. items

thumbnail_IMG_1207.jpg

and in the 3rd drawer is a couple of his guitars.

thumbnail_IMG_1209.jpg

whatever he decides to use it for doesn't matter, he is happy to have it and is showing anyone that comes to visit.

Magnum: i love those old cabinets on those small casters. that one looks like it was well taken care of and happy to hear you found room for it. SO SORRY to hear about your loss and hope he keeps guiding you along in your life as you learn some of the things he taught you.

Dean: AWESOME cabinet and thanks for the updated pictures. boy those drawers must be huge if a couple guitars can fit on one and still have room.

WELL DONE and happy to hear your son likes it and maybe was a little impressed with his OLD MAN TOO.

Got this stainless cabinet from a buddy who works corrections at a prison. Was an old insulated food cart but works well as a tool cabinet. 54514842e4c1ea3de47cf0a22e3552a0.jpg

I found this file cabinet on Craigslist a few weeks back. Free! It was 15 miles from the house and was in the basement of a 3 story mansion. We had to take it out the back of the basement, across a rough area of woods and then up a hill to my truck. Glad I brought my cart and straps, this thing is heavy. It's a Steel Craft with double slides on the drawers and full depth drawers all around.
Regards,
John

Here's my older WinHolt OTE-78 Steel Enclosed Receiving / Shop Desk

It was in rough shape when I got it but it's perfect for my paint and chemical storage.

I want to trim the screws down on the interior of the doors. I just haven't made the time to do so.

Merc: i'm pretty sure we were separated at birth cause i'd actually buy those kind of cabinets even if i didn't have the room and maybe even pay storage fees until i found a spot for them. WELL DONE!!

Drives,

I can't help but agree. I'm hanging my head because I picked up another eight drawer filing cabinet today that I need to find somewhere to put...still in the back of the truck. Nine was making fun of me earlier, but I reminded him that he was egging me on to buy four five-drawer blueprint cabinets for $150. I know they're a good deal but I don't know where the heck to put them at this point. I've got some things in my boss' (relatively small) storage unit and may be able to fit those too, but I cringe at the look on his face when he finally goes to look for things...

Merc: i hear you about these old and big metal cabinets. i just found another SAFECO flat file or blueprint cabinet that is 46.5x36x16.5 that i actually cleared a spot for and put on the 3rd shelf of my commercial racking in my storage unit. just so you know that even though i removed thedrawers lifting up one of these empty cabinets up to a shelf 7 foot off the ground walking up on a warehouse ladder was no picnic. i managed finally and the drawers are in it and i'm filling it up with STUFF.

i use my 10x20 storage unit a lot so it justifies the $185 per month and since the ceilings are 14 foot tall i have some big racks and a prior tenant put in a loft on the back half where i have 6 foot tall racks up above on it and racks and cabinets below. did i mention i have some STUFF. i'm sort of HOARDING in the hopes of buying or building a shop in the near future. hopefully sooner than later cause the 20x20 and shops i lease are more for storing that sort of stuff.

cheers and post more pictures of your STUFF as you can and even post up some of the NON BUYS you and NINES find that you decided not to buy if you have time to.

NINES: i bet you (and GJ) are responsible for a good portion of my STUFF. i'm trying to let go of some of it to other GJ members now.

Also i've seen great progress on your home and you are doing a great job. still hoping for the best for you. good luck

For $30 I couldn't pass it up, even though it was in the pouring rain.

Here are the cabinets that I'm on the fence on...I think I can get them for $150 or less.

BP2.jpg

...only problem is I know Nine will end up with two of them. Or possibly all of them. :willy_nil

I was at Nine's house the day before the flood and the day he returned to inspect the damage, and it's hard to describe such progress in words. When he's done the place will be nicer than before and me, I'll be jealous...and this time not just about his shop (and cabinets, of course, to keep this post relevant).

Merc: if all the drawers are there the cabinets don't look damaged so if that price is for all 4 even with NINES getting a couple he probably doesn't have space for it's still a good deal. of course if you just have to put them in storage then that's the RUB. these do store a ton of stuff if you have boxes or buckets of stuff like i do to sort which you might also have if you hang around GJ long enough.

NINES: i know just remodeling a bathroom by itself seemed to take me forever so again i know it's a lot to do an entire house, but it looks like you are making a ton of progress so keep up the good work.

Outlaw, they're all metal. The seller says that everything is there and works well but has some surface rust. I imagine they were partially or totally flooded a few months back given the location, which is why I'd be lowballing. I haven't gone and checked them out, but if I survive having a garage sale this weekend and clearing out a bunch of stuff, I will likely be doing so.

I think they'd have sold already if he hadn't listed them on CL under "Arts & Crafts" They don't come up too often around here and I think Nine or I have ended up with just about every one I've seen in the last 12 months (except these).

Merc: i have no idea what the side effects are of buying items out of a flood, but structurally those cabinets are built very well. I also see very few rusted and usually it's because the original paint has come off from some damage usually from moving those big guys. your call on if you want to buy them, but at worse case at that price you can make NINES KEEP SMILING and you can spiff them up a little and double your money on the two or three you keep after giving Nines one or two if he has room and could use them. AM I ENABLING YOU even though you are a BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER?

Loydski: AWESOME FIND. i've never seen a 21 drawer metal organizer cabinet and looks like it's in terrific shape too. great to see you have the original brass fittings so if you can't find a home for them and just want to get rid of them maybe you can put them in a USPS flat rate box and send them to me in exchange for something you might like. of course i'd love the cabinet too. i'm not sure i could use many or any of those, but my kids are buying their first homes and i'm sure i'll be called up to come fix or re do a plumbing issue.

thanks for sharing

I hit the antique / flea mall on the right day and found this 6'x3'x18" steel cabinet for $40, marked 80% off of $200. There was a bottle of slide fixer rolling inside, so it must be from a lab. It is really stiff, none of that floppiness in the doors I hate in cheaper cabs. There is a smidge of rust on the bottom feet and a few tiny dents. If I had room in my truck, I could have taken home an identical one in tan. How'd I do?

Quick pics from right after I got it in the door. I am going to store things in it that I don't want the rug rats getting into.

No keys, unfortunately. What can I do to replace them - anything on amazon?

Is there a number on the cylinder face? There usually is. With that, and trying other keys you have to match the key blank a locksmith can cut you one. (Heck you might even get lucky and discover the key you have fitd. these are commonly only three leaves in the cylinder...)

For one with good stiff doors you did good!

I'd say you did great. Those are $150-200 in the Atlanta area.

All,

First 2 pictures: A 1950's work station that I won at an auction. It's all steel, with a linoleum top & has drawers. Like the old gray battleship desks of that era, but it's long & narrow. It's the work station that would have held a mimeograph machine on one end, and space to hand collate the printed papers.
I sold it to a hydraulics shop for their crimp/hose line.

Second 2 pictures: A small steel supply cabinet, circa; 1950s. Likely, a mimeograph machine was placed on top, and paper, with printer supplies was stored inside. I'll soon find a good home for it.

Recent purchase are these two matching Yawman and Erbe small parts cabinets. Each measuring 13" wide by 14.5" tall by 3.5" deep. Drawers pivot outward.

FJ: i love the color and the style of that cabinet. I can't say I've ever seen that version in any brand and i have a few cabinets made by that cabinet maker.

Mark: those look solid and i like the smaller one that might work great for a DP or some other hard working tool.

ALL: Happy Holidays to all of you and hoping you all have a better 2017 even if 2016 was the best yet.

cheers

Finally made it back out to the lake, here's the inside. Got a lot of organizing to do since I just bought a new tool box and most of what was in here made it over to my workbench. 7a59784c5206c178b864a93930d8cbf8.jpg

Finally finished going through this thread from beginning to end. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I love older metal storage cabinets industrial in nature or, old repair shop cabs, etc. You guys have found some awesome examples and posted here. I'll start taking pics and showing some of my past finds.
