I spent a lot more on many tools in 2016 than the $100 I did on an OTC 7249 Ball Joint Press, but none comes close to the value for $ to me. It's 'Made in USA' like a beast and drove out a couple ball joints like there was nothing to it that had just destroyed an Alltrade ball joint press without budging. I rank it as one of the better tool purchases I've ever made.

A strong contender or at least a close second would have to be the like new condition Snap-on SHLF80A 26" 1/2"dr flex soft grip ratchet I 'stole' in an ebay auction for $75+free shipping.

Far from the most expensive but I have to say my favorite is my Bosch GLM-15 laser measurer.

I also really like my Bosch FL-12 light, although I think there is a good chance I may move onto another cordless platform in 2017.

I would have to say that it is the forge I built, banging red hot steel is just so much damn fun, plus the enjoyment of learning a new skill.

Second up is the Lincoln 210MP

The barn.... moved to the new place in July 2015... was without a real "working" shop until June 2016. I'll never do that again.

My 3/8 Nano. Its the lil impact, with a big heart. Tire rotations, crusty suspension parts, and crank bolts... Conquered and defeated!

Cordless stuff, specifically Milwaukee. Finally became a believer in cordless.

The Kennedy 1017 that I got at an estate sale for $26.25. Even if they still made the 1017, I would never pay so much for a hand box. Hell... I only paid $100 for my Powr Kraft roller cab and top box.

Old *** Bridgeport, though I just got it and have not actually used it, I'm sure it will be my favorite purchase of 2016.

Does this have a level on it as well? Thanks

...an OTC 7249 Ball Joint Press...

We (O'Reilly) throw these away like pouring out water. Whether they're good or not I don't know but I can say without a doubt there's at least 5 a week in the scrap bins. Most of the time they're missing a part, I have yet to see one that's actually broken.

My favorite tools acquired in 2016 is the Ryobi 10" sliding miter saw and stand I got, and the Flexzilla Pro compact impact. Can't pick one over the other, they're both excellent tools and I'm gonna have plenty of fun using both.

That's just crazy. We have one at work used for at least 10 yrs now to, besides do ball joints and u-joints, to drive out semi brake anchor pins that require putting a 3/4 impact on them. Even after heating them up there is no 1/2 impact capable of getting them out (an IR 2235TI won't budge them), and the OTC ball joint press has handled 100s of them.

The only ball joint press better is the Snap On (BJP1 I believe) but it costs several times the price for a good deal on a used one as a new OTC ball joint press goes for. The OTC 7249 is also sold rebadged as the Matco BJP7025C for $245. Same exact press made by OTC.

Save them for what, we don't work on cars, and O'Reilly doesn't typically create warranties on products, manufacturers do. So, the company is at the mercy of whatever the manufacturer or vendor says...if they say toss it, we toss it, if they say give it back, we give it back.

There's some stuff that goes back to the vendor or gets reboxed, but otherwise most of it goes into the compactor or the scrap bin.

Gifts, sell, trade, etc...... when I worked at Sports Authority we had stuff that was RTV'ed and stuff that was marked to be destroyed/tossed. I "volunteered" to "destroy" and throw out tons of stuff...
If one of those 5 a week should be one of the newer US made ones, shoot me a PM....I am sure I have something to trade that is worth it!

That's theft. We have metal detectors, can't take anything out of the warehouse.

The Milwaukee 2754-22 compact impact wrench w/ the free extra battery from HD. Love it. Thinking about buying the 2763-22 now. where they also throw in a free battery. I have a problem, and way too many Milwaukee batteries now.
