I was surfing ebay and found this ratchet and noticed it was alot cheaper than what they normally go for, So i bid at last second and won it, $51 bucks including shipping. Still stunned that i won because it looks immaculate in the photo i had to re-read the ad to make sure i wasnt duped. It supposedly was a display item, My luck is there wont be any guts inside just the body of the ratchet. LOL anyways ill post some pics when it arrives, Good deal?

I bought a set of deep Snap-on sockets, and two ratchets from a guy on eBay, they were display tools too. Never used, just sat on the truck for display. Cost me a fraction of their new price for brand new tools. Nothing wrong with display tools!

This was one:

I don't think the craze is over per say.. its like anything else stuff is selling cheaper on ebay these days due to that old standby the "economy". My thoughts are that if that had a green, red, orange, etc handle on it it might go 30-40% more simply because of the color. I think when it comes to the hard handled stuff the bright colors seem to always draw the most in a bidding war.

Also keep in mind with dual 80 and 100 tooth ratchets hitting the market this isn't in demand as it was maybe 12 months ago. More guys have swapped to dual 80 stuff. If you look at older S/O ratchets as a whole I'd say the prices have come down quite a bit in the last 12 months. Thats what it looks like to me..

Either way.. thats a heck of a score. If I had seen it we woulda been in a bidding war! haha.

SO really killed themselves, IMHO, they should have kept them around (hard handles) as a classic option. I have not been real interested in SO ratchets since they stopped the hard handle production. For new stuff anyway.

Yeah, I know color has alot to do with it. Anyways i have loads of Dual 80 stuff and got a little carried away over the last 6 mos buying up every deal i could find, Not to mention i really like the smooth action of 80 teeth but i have yet to see much of a benefit in the bigger sizes 3/8 and 1/2. I still grab my old 36 teeth snap on ratchets to complete the task, Dont get me wrong there may be some other reasons like maybe i dont want to scratch my new ratchet etc. LOL About the only dual 80 ratchet i use with consistency is my T72 drives, It always seems like ive got my hand in a spot where i cant get a full swing and like the easier tooth engagement. This is not a bash on the Dual 80 tech because theres no doubt it would do everything the older ratchets would do, its just my limited opinion. BTW Cant wait to get my new ratchet.

Past 1/4 inch drive, the high tooth count won't be soo noticeable. I agree with you there. With the exception of the 1/4 inch stuff, I would still buy a hard handled 36 tooth ratchet, for a new purchase, over a dual 80 IMO.

would it be cheaper to have a member from here bid and win, then ship to you for actual cost? I know it was quite some time ago, but iirc, shipping that hard handle to you didnt cost to much.

I'd be happy to bid on something for you, then ship, if the savings would be greater or if the seller wont shop out of the US. just contact me

I think the hard handle craze is over because, Snap on hasn't brought them back or came out with a newer hard handle that people actually like. However, with the economy the way it is, reality maybe sitting in and people aren't speding quite as stupidly as before. There's still a sucker born every minute, and that's enough to make a decent living from.

I'd hate to bother other members,I find so many things on ebay that only ship US I'm afraid if I asked a fellow member to bid on them and ship them I'd end up driving them nuts.:lol_hitti I do appreciate the offer though and if I find something I really want I may take you up on it.Most times I email the seller and ask if they will consider shipping here.About 50% will if asked.Others won't even reply. There are many sellers who show US shipping only but when you read their add it will say to contact them for international rates. Most times I take it as karma/my bank account telling me I really shouldn't be bidding on the item anyway.

I would be willing to help out as well.

There are many of member on forums just like this that do it often. I recall friends in a truck club doing this. They lived in Buffalo NY and Ontario Canada. They just drove the stuff installed over the border.

+1000. I've had 2 sets of S/O hard handle screwdrivers for 15 or 20 years, one at work and one at home. They are the cats a$$!
They have also redesigned the ratcheting screwdriver handle, but still offer the hard handle for now. Maybe I should buy one for home while they're sill available.

I was vacation in Fla this past week, went to EPCOT and of course Test Track. As you walk into the ride there are parts and tools scattered about on display, lots of hard handle ratchets:bounce:, I was trying to figure out if I could swipe them but my wife wouldn't let me:thumbup:

I was just gonna post that link..........haha

Yeah Hiball you got a steal. I think I just saw another black hard handle go for $90ish. Maybe your post here suddenly drove the market up? :lol_hitti

sadly it might be true... I wonder how many lurkers read stuff and then go "oh wow I need one" then the fleabay market goes crazy. Soo ummm lets drop this topic so we can all quietly make good priced purchases on hard handled ratchets. :lol_hitti :bounce: :spit:

I think that as soon as the prices spiked stupid high, everyone cleaned out their tool boxes. Then there were a **** load on fleabay, and that drove the price down.

Here is one too. Good God, this is still insane. Moose, you better buy this one!

I got one with an orange handle already. Not willing to pay eBay prices for one, i bought a flex head ratchet and a breaker bar with an orange handle and made my own. I do like those green handled ones, but they're way too expensive for me. I bought a brand new green ratcheting screwdriver off eBay for less than i can buy a black one new here. :D

Just takes some guy seeing the ratchet and thinking to himself "I really want that but I can't babysit this auction,I'll throw a ridiculous bid in and I'm sure to win it,probably for way less than I bid."Along comes the sellers shill bidder and drives the price up to near the bidders max.It can be done by knowing when the bid increments change and bidding small amounts until the increment changes and you know your at your competitors max.

I just got these two..........

This one went cheap.. I honestly figured it'd go past the $$ I bid. I guess no one wants a DE Jr. ratchet? LOL.. I don't care.. I just like the color and the handle.

Got this one too.. paid a bit more than the one that ended a few days ago.. but I've been wanting it for my "collection".
