Made it out to the local flea market this weekend. Did OK for spending only $8.

1: Eight inch Utica lineman plyers
2: Unmarked spring plyers, looked like they might come in handy
3: 8mm SK combo wrench. Now I can get rid of the Chinese one in my box...
4. 17 & 19MM 1/2in drive Craftsman deep well sockets
5: 9MM 3/8in drive socket
6: Craftsman screw driver.
7: 2 1/2 in Craftsman ratchets. One was almost new with remnants of the price tag still attached. The other is a vintage 60's. Both were seized up with rust, both work great now after taking them apart and removing the rust and little grease.

Picked up the following from an estate sale and a CL ad. From the CL ad- I went to pick up a circular saw for a co-worker, and the gentlemen also had the Huot laying around, gave him $5 for it. The rest was from an estate sale- NOS Sears grinding wheel dresser, piaid $5 and it came with the instructions. It'll make a nice addition to my block grinder. Another NOS item, a Record V175 woodworking Vise for $10, never been mounted. And lastly, the "retirement light" It was attached to an old band saw that was missing parts. They wouldn't sell it by itself, until I pointed out that the saw was busted and missing a cover. Had to pay $25 for it, but my father needs it for one of his presses and they are not easy to come by.

On the subject of grinding wheel dressers.... McMaster Carr's 4528A1 is a Desmond Stephan's Huntington No. 0... Made in the USA. They also have replacement wheels pretty cheap.

I hit a tool pawn shop today and for a buck I bought this.....What it is...I don't know. It says DuPont No. 2 on it and that is all. The front part of the jaws look like a crimper of some sorts and behind that is some sort of wire cutter. On the tail end of the handles is a screwdriver on one side and a awl of sorts on the other side. Anyone know what these were used for? They are well made.

Those appear to be from a GI issue engineer set for demo. Crimpers/cutters for fuze, spike end to piece recess in demo to place blasting cap. I used to do some work in that field....

A couple of items I won at auction last week. A very heavy built 7 drawer cabinet. I have not identified the maker yet. Handles are cast aluminum and tilt up or down to release the drawer latch.
IMG_3191.jpgIMG_3192.jpg

Also, a nice solid old safety can. A Justrite Oily Waste Can complete with Underwriters Lab plate riveted in place to prove it's rating.

You all ****....! I've been to at least 15 sales/auctions this month and have nothing to show, and I'll be damned if I try to outbid a fool and his money.
All the good tool vendors are down south for the season I guess. C'mon garage sale weather. :)

Yes, lots and lots of cabin fever I found out at last week's estate sale, as pretty much every January 'round here. Pretty soon this thread will be rolling at a quicker pace! :3gears:

Cant wait for that flea market weather.

Looking good there everyone!

Nice to see so many names and finds right now.

I want to add welcome to all the new folks, and other members who have not joined the GS thread before!

Nice JustRite can. I found a newer version just this week as well. I posted it back on Post #450 just 2 pages back. I really like the galvanized can you have.

The vise thread outed me.
I grabbed a baby Reed 102-1/2 off eBay for $115 w/shipping. It should show up next week.
Here's one of the pics from the listing.

More pics once I get it in my hands.

I second that.

They were part of the US Army and the USMC M1 and M2 Demolition Kit up through the 70's, at least.

DuPont provided the entire kit, including the powder, caps, etc., but probably had the crimpers made by someone else. Other M2 Kit suppliers were Hercules, Atlas, Heiley Filson and others.

Here's an older pair from an HF kit.

Although these particular references are older than your plated example, it's the same tool, and I thought you might enjoy seeing them...

bought this book at the flea market this morning. it's a 1965 scholastic book, like the ones you got from the book fair when you were a kid. pretty cool little book.

My Mom gave away a lot of the books I had as a kid and I wish I still had some of them. (Like the set of illustrated OZ books we had that were old when I was a kid...)

Nice find EC! I'd have grabbed that!

Nomad,
Walworth Stillson pattern pipe wrenches are very difficult to date precisely, because that design remained unchanged for many, many years. The features are consistent with 1940's catalogs and ads.

Here is a 1942 if you want to compare yourself...

file.php

For future reference, note that wooden handles is not an indicator of vintage. Walworth Genuine Stillson pattern pipe wrenches were available in their catalogs with wood or steel handles at the same time at least through the late 1940's.

can't beat the sawzall for sure, I got one similar and I've used it alot during remodeling. I also picked up a bunch of new blades for $10 so I was set with the sawzall and blades for my normal home use.

Today was kind of a bust... First garage sale was mostly junk, found a box full of misc screws & washers, and a couple half-full bags of charcoal...

Second sale was priced way too high and no real garage stuff. Found a pair of "commercial electric" (chinese made found at HD) wire stripper still new in package for $3.

I have higher hopes tomorrow there are more sales, and one estate sale that shows lots of tools in pictures. Hopefully prices will be reasonable!

Well I'm at it again....More junk! Just what a thinning old fat man needs :spit: Picked this old enterprise coffee grinder pat 1873 up from FB tonight for $50 . It's missing the lid and may never find one but for that price I couldn't pass it up. It's been restored once or at least once. Looks to have a few spots of the original or previous color here or there. Maybe olive green? These use to be very popular back in the 80's . Maybe they will make a comeback!
