Small moving sale with a lot of junk in the garage. I dug through a few old toolboxes and got the wrenches/ratchet/sockets for $3 (total) and then found the Gesswein stones for $2. The stones appear almost new.

It was below freezing when I got to the flea this morning. I knew there probably wouldn't be many vendors, and I was right. Still made off with a handful of SK wrenches and a neat set of vintage Craftsman Vanadium auger bits.

Hit the jackpot Friday!

Pic 1: At the first sale the guy was moving to Alaska. There was not much for tools but I noticed a vintage Coca Cola picnic cooler in the back of the garage. I asked him if it was for sale and he said might as well since he's moving. He had other coke stuff and mentioned he had some metal bottle cases in the attic. He brought down a pair of vintage bottle holders that were used when they washed the returnable bottles. I picked up a Stanley brace drill and a couple of shirts for $137 total.

I then raced to the other side of town for an estate sale that was opening at 8 PM. I was a little late but for some reason not many people there.
First thing I see when I walk in the garage is a 1970's Craftsman gray with red drawers
toolbox. How much for the box I ask? $10 is the reply! With all the tools? $50 is the reply! I was in hog heaven! The estate sale was being run by the sons and daughters of their father who passed away. They were all out of towner's and wanted to get things cleaned out quickly. So I started digging! I ended up paying $103 total at this sale.

Pic 2: Pair of "Zip De!" folding chairs, Made in USA. I really like these!
Pic 3: 1973 vintage Coleman dual filament 220H195 lantern in nice shape. Notice the black plastic "accessory safe" that clips on the bottom to hold the spare mantles and wrench and all the original paperwork. Outlaw will like this one!
Pic 4: A working fluorescent work light, some tiny little bits, an anchor I picked up because it's from my home state of Wisconsin, a large Bailey wood plane and a Craftsman tool pouch and utility knife.
Pic 5: Three milk crates with a bunch of quarts of oil and other consumables, a folding typewriter desk and various axe, hammer and hoe heads.
Pic 6: A few toolboxes, an unknown hip roof box, an unknown green box and the Homak red and black box.

Pic 7: I then went to another sale nearby. Practically nothing here except for a "grip stick" for getting things off of my pegboard. I did however get a lead on another sale from one of the other estate sale regulars and picked up the Craftsman Crown label steel rule in the package, General steel rule, unknown pliers, Starrett punch, Snap On extension, Plomb DBE, Bonney DBE and Proto 3/4"D impact socket for $8 total.

That's a nice load of goods, Bluebolt.
Pic 6: A few toolboxes, an unknown hip roof box...

The cantilever box has the triangular indents on the inside, at the short sides, that are indicative of a Kennedy made box.

Nice Long-C box. It's survived the years well.
The logo looks nice, right? And it still has a nice shade of blue. There are 5 of the 6 bits inside. Chrome plated, so they're in decent shape. I think I'm missing the '10'.

Man, you guys are doing well for a "Slow" Sunday!

  • Username:The Long C auger box is pretty unique! Both for the logo, and being metal for wood augers. Only seen on other in metal, and that was here...
  • BB- Nice stuff! has that lanterns even been fueled? check the fount! I see the mantles were burnt off, but was it lit? The 220's were probably the most common lantern Coleman made, followed by the 228 (same lantern; wide brim "hat" (the top vent). If you get one other than as a user, getting one in pristine shape is the way to go! That mantle safe, was made 2 ways; in plastic (later), and in aluminum with a stainless cinch strap. As a kit it might have come with mantles, a spare generator, a wrench and possibly a pump leathers. Oh yes the flint sparker, which it looks like was already installed.
  • Paul; those honing stones are cool!
  • Rag top, there have been no flies on you this weekend!

Outlaw, I took the cap off and it smelled like fuel but this may have been used only a few times. I need to find some fuel and see if can get it to work.

Outlaw, I took the cap off and it smelled like fuel but this may have been used only a few times. I need to find some fuel and see if can get it to work.

First things first:

Will the pump, pump pressure? The leather cup may need oil. Neetsfoot is best but mink or olive oil works in a pinch if its dry.

Open the pump valve by turning the pump knob one turn counter clockwise, then close after you are done pumping. Keep your thumb on the hole in the knob when pumping.

Does the fuel cap hold pressure? If the pump works, bleed the tank of pressure then pump it up again and see if it will hold a few pumps over time.

Check the cleaning lever, (Brass loop opposite the main valve) if it turns freely, you should be good. it should be in the down position to light....

Follow the lighting directions! ONE QUARTER TURN TO LIGHT!

I like to open it and listen for a burbling sound after the initial hiss. If you get that, you are getting fuel. Then turn it off til the match is ready! (No fireballs!)

Fuel: Walmart stopped carrying Coleman and now sells Crown but its good fuel and a LOT cheaper!

If there are ANY signs of insects, you may want to be sure the air tubes are clear, (Spiders and mud wasps like these tubes...)

Nobody mentioned I had not posted pictures of the Craftsman box LOL. Here it is!

Pic 1: The Craftsman 9 drawer roller cabinet. I haven't checked the date yet.
Pic 2: Small odds and ends, parking tokens, old matchbooks, a few C-clamps and a cool little 1970 Westinghouse note book. If I wait until 2026 I can use the notebook calendar again!
Pic 3: Various Craftsman screwdrivers, some are older Vanadium ones. On the right are a couple of Stanley utility knives, Craftsman and other brands punches and chisels and other odds and ends.
Pic 4: A bunch of Craftsman =V= sockets, Craftsman files and a few other pieces. The torque wrench is a Crown label 1/2"D.
Pic 5: A bunch of caulking chisels including several Plomb's, modified Vise Grips, wire hose clamp pliers and various other bits. I don't remember what is in that roll up pouch LOL.
Pic 6: Walden nutdriver holder, Bonney refrigeration and distributor wrenches, Williams 1/2"D sockets, brass sprinkler wrench, mini wood plane missing parts, Craftsman allen wrenches and a 3 way utility wrench with no markings.

Any body know what that wood plomb bob looking thing is? No hole for a string.

Pic 7: Outdoor switch box, rivets, bulbs, gluesticks, stack of Norton cutting discs and an older Louisiana license plate.

There's more small stuff I may not bother putting on here.

On my way home from church today, I got an email response from a local hydraulic shop going out of business so I swung by and took a look. I ended up making an extra trip back home to grab my trailer and more money....
This is what I ended up with. I will try to break down the prices of what I paid but I bundled a lot of the things together so it may look like a paid a little more.

8x4 metal tables 3/16 thick with a fancy drip rail, he had 2 of these. $50ea
3d3fd18e431f8fd713b0d1d6931a28c6.jpg
6x4 1/2 thick metal table $50. Thankful he had the jib crane (was already sold) to load.
b52c45fa92dcfd32a62e37d68de52555.jpg
3 large bottles of welding gas, all full. $150 for all. He had a regular 75/25 bottle, pure argon, and then the stuff you use for Stainless steel.
cf3c182e6d4e584567dc2fb322831c8e.jpg
One of my favorite items, large Wilton C02 combination vise with swivel base. The 4 wheeler gives a good size comparison $50

aae7ee25d352aa45fff8bbb81548be60.jpg
Empire blast cabinet with dust collection system, a paint job would do it wonders. $100
519343cab81637918604a4e5f1f754c5.jpg
Large arbor press $50
eb34509690f3e15a470e1f5b1d3100fd.jpg
rolling metal workbench, I think 1/4 thick $50
dfa5faa596cdc421c09ab4b5ee6ca152.jpg
Very nice wellsaw 58b bandsaw $200
a2544d1c3edb228358abfa4b7238a1bf.jpg
Getting it all hauled back. Believe it or not I only used 3 straps. It only was going 10 minutes up the road.
65135059b2c706c1454e1246bbad442a.jpg

Not pictured that I also bought was a nice 5500lb pallet jack, some work lights, some scrap stock thick plate metal, a mityoyo? micrometer, new large battery, and a 5 gallon bucket of media for the blaster.

I ended up paying $805 for everything I believe. Was not expecting to buy that much on my way home from church.

$50 for the roller and the tools is great! Congrats on that find.

Man that box is nice !

that box is awesome! great find!

Thanks guys. I was happy to have found it.
All of the bits are chrome plated and have blue paint at the bottom a la Craftsman style. But, only 4 of the bits are marked Craftsman.
attachment.php

The 5th bit is identical in make, but marked:
Snelling Co.
Fiskdale, MASS
Made In USA

I'm guessing that Snelling was the maker for the Cman bits... :dunno: I've never heard of Snelling Co. before.

I wondered if it was a top to but how would your get it spinning?

The Spintite is the Stephens Walden nutdriver holder.

The Craftsman box was totally full when I got it. There was a lot more stuff in that Craftsman box that I put it in the empty Powerkraft box I got recently so it was sorted out for an upcoming yard sale.

Looked for a date on the Craftsman box but it has been partially repainted and it's covered over.

In terns of pure tonnage, I think Waggoner just shamed us all.

Agreed Jake. :) Have trailer-must fill is a good motto!

You guys have been very busy this weekend. A lot of good stuff found  .

We had some fun with tools today at an 8 yr old's b-day party. A friend of mine keeps a big tree stump with a hatchet in his house for splitting small wood. It turned into a Sword in the Stone game for the kids, about a dozen of all ages, and they loved it far more than the piñata. His 4 yr old knew the trick, how to brace the log with her foot from watching dad.

Things got a bit crazy because my buddy just loves competition (even with 4 year olds), and was so miffed by the little kids all conquering his challenge that he went outside and wedged the full size fibreglass axe into the stump.

The kids all tried, and somehow I found myself standing on the stump in his kitchen while some adults tried to pull the axe. Of course it wasn't happening, I was rocking all over the place. It took him smashing it to his own kitchen floor and making a huge mess. Good times.

Some of you may remember this same guy who once tried to simply twist a side view mirror off a car at the junkyard.

Anyway, I don't know how this relates to garage sales, but I will try to post some tool pics tomorrow!

More...The black box is a bell system tool box. Planes are 45's and a mint 50! pair of 40 & 40 1/2 scrub planes. also 4 bedrocks, Siegley's, Stanley Sw No. 8 and Made in England No. 7 . Lots of small treasures

I have a Craftsman that looks exactly like that Stanley... Of course, I knew they made them for CMan back then... ;) They are very nice, almost too nice to use.

It was SK day at the flea market! I had to dig through a entire pile to find it. I looked some up and most seem to have dual lines on the sides of the SK in the handle. This one only has one. I couldn't find one like it in a short search. I like some SK stuff!

I started collecting SK when I got the little SK machinist toolbox. I need to sort through what i got and get the duplicates out and determine what I'm missing!

I saw a lot of older SK Sockets with the god looking knurling near the bottom..
would take long time to dig em all out, may get a few each time I go.

This is why I hate opening this thread up and taking a look.

YOU ****!

Fowl: some of us actually keep our trailer attached to our rigs just in case a machine shop or good find is on the drive. :bounce:

Wag: i seem to recall you buying, trying to buy or building a new garage and guessing some of this stuff will fit in their nicely. WELL DONE SIR!! any more pictures of the Wilton C2 to post over on the big vise thread cause other than the Baby it might be my favorite Wilton model?

I aspire to be more like you guys someday. Looking at some property this week with a house and a shop. When I asked the seller how big the shop was she said "I don't know my husband parks his bulldozer, tractor, and side by side trailer in there and there is still a lot of room".
