Bagged:

I have a feeling the base you are looking for fits a few other models. Maybe you should post specs. What is the spacing of the bolt holes? What is the diameter of the very bottom of your vise's base?

Details? Why would those help? Lol

The base is 5-7/8" diameter and the holes are 4.25" apart.

I still have Columbian 603 parts... a screw, no handle, not in the best condition but usable... the static jaw, in good shape, no screw nut(went to a member)... the dynamic jaw, in good shape... and the swivel base, in good shape.

Looking for the main screw/spindle on my Wilton Bullet- stamped 46, 4.5" jaw. Mine looks to have been welded?

The swivel bases are the same for all the 400S, 450S & 500S and can be enterchanged onto the older 8400/9400. 101028. 9450/101033 and also 9500/101031. All the same base and ring..The handles will interchange on the 4" & the 4 1/2" except for the length but not on the 5". Another tid bit of useless information..
autopts: WAAAAYYYY back in 2011, you were talking about (not so useless) Wilton swivel base interchanges. I was hoping you could tell me if the 400s base will fit a 840. You specifically mentioned the 8400, but not the older 840.

I'm looking for a swivel base for a Wilton 840, be it an old one if that's all that fits or a newer one if in fact it will interchange. If someone needs any type of measurements, I can provide them tonight after work. Thanks!

Hey Everyone, I need a favor and would appreciate if someone could help out.

I have a 3 1/2" Chas Parker vise that needs a swivel base and the hardware for it. I would love to get this vise back into service.

The extreme outer edge of my vise is just under 6-1/8" (6.100") so roughly any base for a Parker with a 3 1/2" wide jaw will work.

Please PM me and thank you for your help in advance.

I have a base for a 840 listed on EBay. Its pricey but that base assembly isn't cheap.

Hello guys,
Found a Colombian 46D at the yard sale but the main screw is missing. Any suggestions about a replacement?
Thanks, Rick

Actually I reversed the model # it's a Columbian D46 and the screw in not exposed. I'll attempt to figure how to post a picture. My caliper read .870 for the screw diameter but I'm wondering if that might be a nominal 7/8". Any way, thanks for the reply. It would be great to get this old war horse back into service.

I hope this might help. The vise is about 15" front to back and about 6 1/2" tall.
As well as the main nut missing, it looks as though there should be a bolt to secure the main nut to the carriage- missing also. Thanks for the effort. You can probably tell I'm a novice at this.

Win: that is not a rare vise and actually fairly common so if you can't find a broken one to get you parts from my guess is you'll find one in better shape for $40-100 or one that maybe needs something this vise has to make it whole.

in any case it's pretty rare (not common) to have a vise nut just missing on a vise. can you take a few more pictures of the inside of the vise to show us if maybe the casting that holds the vise nut is there, broken or cracked? if it is then you'll need to find another vise to make this one or that one a good vise.

good luck

OUTLAW: i don't know how to do screen shots like you do showing all the steps to posting pictures, but i just click on the paperclip above where we write our posts about a half inch in the middle of that top row under the title. might save a step since i don't see your sub window when i post. the pop up menu also comes up when you click on the paperclip and i can download up to 7 pics per post using this method. have you tried or seen the paperclip yet?

The paperclip gets me the same menus as the "manage attachments" does so no difference there, unless its browser based differences. I'm using Chrome. (windows)

Outlaw: i know it gets the same pop up and i just don't get your sub menu on the page i'm posting on like i do the paperclip so thinking paperclip might save a step. i also use Google chrome and it was the same with MS edge and Explore r on my old laptop.

anyway thought i'd mention it.

thanks for helping others as you usually do.

Ive got a complete d44 sitting here. I wonder if the parts are the same.Either way neither of the vises are rare and neither are worth much. If youre in Ohio, ill sell you the whole vise for $30.

I've seen a bunch of D44s and a few D45s but not one D46. They do indeed look like Craftsmans I've seen. My concern is the screw diameter which is larger than 5/8', That seems to be the diameter of the D44 and Craftsman. I live in CA so Ohio won't work.
So far I'm into the vise for $1.00 hence the willingness to search for parts. Thanks to all who have responded.

Columbian vise parts.

603 Machinists swivel base vise, this vise was so rusty I think it was in a flood LOL. The main handle and screw are missing. The dyanamic and static jaws are pitted but otherwise OK. The "T" jaw inserts are smooth. The main nut looks good and the swivel base and T-bolt look good, the clamping nut works but has serious rust pitting.

203 1/2 combo vise. The pipe jaws are mising. The main nut is bad and I used the swivel base for my 603 1/2. The castings look good and the "T" jaw inserts have a little life left in them. The main screw looks good and the handle is pretty straight. Note the ACME threads on this are 7/8, not 3/4 like www.viceparts.com shows which probably means this is an earlier one.

How much are you asking for the swivel base?

Hello all, I am looking for a single jaw insert for a Wilton 840/940. I know they are available new from several sources, but I just need one. 4" wide, 1/2 x 3/4, 2-3/8 bolt center. I could cut down a 4-1/2 or 5" if it were available. PM me please. Thanks for looking.

Does anyone have a "Horned" nut for a through-the-bench mount vise, 3/4-10 NC theads in the vise body, so something like that?

If I can't find a nut, has anyone found a good way to make one?

Thanks, Jock

Find a long bolt that fits the vise, then take it and a picture of one to a blacksmith.
A good smith should be able to fix you up.

Provi: can you post a few pictures of your thread? and maybe give the TPI and size of it? i've seen some of those old vises mounted with a regular nut and washer. post up pictures and #'s and names on your vise too which might help somebody.

you can still buy nuts that fit those old screws and maybe somebody here can identify your screw and tell you where to buy one.

i think i've only got one of those big (WING) nuts and it's on my Reed 31. i rarely see them posted on the big vise thread and have yet to see or hear of any posted individually.

good luck

Hello Everyone,
I just signed up as a member a fee days ago. I don't know why I waited so long as I've been drooling from the sidelines for years. Anyway, you're an outstanding group and do fine work !

If anyone has any information on where I might be able to find a good used swivel base and hardware for a Rock Island 577 I'd be most appreciative. The one I just picked up will néed some major TLC so a fresh piece would save me alot of time.

Thanks !

Speaking of swivels - if anyone has a Morgan 140 swivel lock it would be great appreciated! The lock washer and nut are a huge eye sore and not very practical
