Replaced 6 feet' x18" of crappy Home Depot shelving with 7'x24" of industrial steel shelving. So much more versatile

I haven't had this much useable counter in years.

Got all the hardware bins kind of sorted out, still some work to do.

The cabinets have a 2"space between the door back and the shelving fronts, Perfect place for the small Milwaukee stuff.

I took the old craftsman bottom box that I was going to sell and moved the drill press to that, put a small vice on it and will mount my swag off-road bandsaw table on it where the winch is.

Now it's time to plumb the compressor. I have a big commercial compressor that actually came with the house, and as part of the first garage Reno, I moved it into the basement. I have a switch in the garage to turn it on and off, but right now i just use it with a flex hose stuffed in the closet, its a pain. So I plan on running some copper or steel pipe and adding a couple of drops in the garage.

Would the filter dryer go in The basement closer to the compressor, or in the garage closer to the point of use?

Not what i wanted to be doing the night before "the worlds going to end" storm. The good news its not mine, its my neighbors, but he will be shoveling this storm, he sheared a 5/16 solid pin that holds the wormgear on the shaft, so he is out of luck till that part comes in.

Snowed in today, was hoping to get some Willys parts I ordered, But the mailman ain't coming, I guess it's "through rain, sleet and snow, unless it's a lot of snow" :D. So i did some work on the welding table. I added a shelf and some hooks to hang clamps.

big update a the Barage, we are putting a full second floor on the garage. The garage is 32x24, for the addition, 20x25 (1’ overhang on the front ) will be a great room accessed from the house, the last bay, 24x12 will have a 14’ ceiling so i can fit a lift, above the 14’ will be a storage room, accessed from the great room. The big joist beam and columns will be removed. At the front of the this bay will be a 4x12 storage loft, about 5’ high, this will be over the work bench. I am redoing all the electrical in the lower garage, it was somewhat sketchy, and its an easy fix now.

The very front of this bay goes floor to roof, only because of where the window landed, the floor of the storage area would have landed right in the middle of it. It was an odd space as we were framing it, but it turns out it will be handy, I can get a full verticle garage door track and keep the door out of the way, and its a good out of the place spot to mount my extraction fan. we were moving along nicely, now waiting for windows and siding to show up, They are weeks overdue.

The addition is done, and the wife farmers porch as well. Now the fun part, putting the garage back together. it was amazing to see how much **** one can accumulate in 15 years, and how poorly organized you find out you were when you have to pull everything out of your garage and then put it back. For example, i have 6 upper wall cabinets that i moved to another wall. When i emptied them i quickly realized a few of them were not being used very well. One was where i put all the Milwaukee tools and one was for all spray cans, that was the worst, when i emptied it i found 5 or six duplicates, sometimes 3 of the same thing because they were buried in back. I always knew the Milwaukee tool cabinet was waste, and hard to use, just never figured out a better plan.

Now 90% of the Milwaukee stuff is wall mounted, and i built a narrow shelf unit to hold all the spray cans, so much better being able to see and grab what you need. I'm keeping only wall mounted and narrow storage on this wall, it allows me to get into and out of a vehicle on the lift

The garage door track conversion to a full vertical lift has started, tracks are modified, just need to mount the shaft and springs, and i installed the lift yesterday!!!

In the great room above the garage there is a hidden door to some bonus storage we ended up with above the lift bay, we always knew there 599D69C6-43C8-41E3-B960-50C62B13B807.jpegwould be some storage up there, but didn’t think it would be very usable. Just ended up with over 6 feet of ceiling height, so it’s perfect. I can walk around in there, 56B6F6D9-93A4-4C59-8AC1-9FC840380C44.jpeg73CE0B2F-71BA-42F0-A7E1-C9D267F9FF0A.jpeg

got the garage door done, converted it to a full vertical lift, lot of work, more because i needed to move the shaft higher than the top of the window, if i kept it at the top of the tracks, it would be across the window.

When i added the second floor, i lost the garage storage attic, i did add a nice storage space above the addition, but it’s only accessible though the great room, so not ideal with dirty garage stuff. I did end up building a nice storage loft in the garage, its 5.5’ deep and high, About 12’ across. That combined with a couple high shelves should handle the storage. It is 8’ off the ground so access was always a concern, but seeing it isnt for daily storage i figured id just use a nice platform ladder i have, and i did until the lift arrived. the ladder took up a lot of room when open and was a tight fit with the lift.

With the ladder i had to shift the lift back 2’ so the ladder could fit between the lift and the loft, while workable, the garage door had to be open to put the ramps on the lift, less than ideal.

I think my solution it to use the lift to access the loft. By moving the lift forward to the loft and using a smaller ladder to access the lift when its up i now have a nice platform to work off at the loft, a place to load and unload stuff and let the lift do the heavy lifting. With one of my jeeps on the lift, i have more than enough room, with the Cylcone on the lift i still should have 3’ to access the loft, car is in storage so ill see when it comes back. Overall this seems like a much safer way to move stuff instead of trying to carry i up a ladder.
