It's an English record at least. Hard to tell where that second picture is from, doesn't really look like a crack though.
Records are my least favorite by far of the English pattern vises though. The lightest castings, and the most miserable to take apart and put together.

The only record in use in my shop is a Chinese Irwin record on the welding table. And its there because I don't really care about it unlike American vises

Awesome find! That Wilton is the exact thing I have dedicated my summer to finding. Doubtful I'll get as good as deal as you did though

Top, after looking at your wreck, it's obvious that the Good Lord has bigger plans for you.---How bad was your buddies rotator injury?

It don't get much worse. A complete tear. He is a big strong guy, a power lifter. If he wasn't he might have lost his arm and possibly his life. It took them two hours to cut him out . He should make a full recovery in time but I think his powerlifting days may be over . I was driving and it all I could to hold it on the road after the blowout but the whole front axle was coming out from under the truck. It was only the grace of God that we came out of that alive

Rescued this from my parents' house - did a lot of things with this vise as a child. I won't restore it - I'll just use it.

STEVE: yep pull it apart, clean it up and put some new grease on it where the metal to metal contact is and you are good for a while. do that every year or two depending on use and that vise will be on your great grandson's bench some day.

TOP: i bet that might have been the scariest minute or two in your life? WELL DONE for giving it as soft of a landing as you could and GOD only knows what plans he has for you with your LUST FOR RUST.

cheers big guy and send a big GET WELL SOON from me (us) to your friend with the torn up shoulder.

Drives Thanks man, I really mean that. I'm not sure this was the scariest moment ever but it's one I'll not soon forget. I had a few close calls. Just the week before I ran a 18 " auger through an unmarked 2" high pressure gas line.... had not one but two close calls in the gulf in 91... I'm ready for a lil boring . I've had it with all the excitement lol

The worse part of being off is I can't play with the heavy iron I have ... I'm down to playing with wrench's , clamps and such but I have enough of that stuff to keep me busy for a month or 3...lol:spit: So the vise's will just have to wait.

Be warned, clamp and wrench collecting is just as addicting as vises. And much easier to hide new arrivals.
If you want something in-between, screw jacks are another tool that is underappreciated. So many probably end up scrapped by people not knowing what to do with them...

Yeah, you would take my pink slip with that one! Such a great resto. The yellow on mine is chalk from getting the stand ready ... I'll be ready to race one day ;)

PS I really like how yours has the 58/98 stamp on the dynamic

Hello All!

I got the Ware Steel Yoke Vise in the mail yesterday.
Here it is... I knew it was small, but I didn't realize how small it really is.

Take care Y'all!
Mike

You want to race that heap, it looks fast with that yellow racing stripe. :lol_hitti

Get, I assume that is your 98? I never noticed when you posted it and got it. From what I remembered, Trijeff had the only 98 known of on this thread. Very nice

Zoomie, excellant purchase. What is the jaw size, and is there a model number anywhere on it? (Spindle nose, slide or other area). I guess it being so tiny, could I ask you what it weighs?

Thanks

I think I've seen four others somewhere, inluding here. So I know about five total.

Drives that was one Wilton I restored. I couldn't have been at the sale without the steel cage around me. I broke a vertebrae in my back and the guy with me had a complete tear of his rotator cuff but we are both lucky to walk away . Thanks for the well wishes Drive

Went to pick up a 4.5" Starret from my minion today and when i went to his shop he had all of this for me. Pd 400 for everything here. I'm pretty happy, every vise is in excellent shape.

Picked up this Snap On vise off Craigslist for $60. Does anyone know Snap On's part number for it? It is missing the pipe jaws and I want to replace them.

Thanks Kevin. I was really pleased to see the starrets. He had a nice Wilton Chief in good shape but I ran out of $$

I like the starretts!
Still waiting to find one of those myself. A few years back KBC was selling new old stock ones for Wilton tradesman sort of money...
One is bound to turn up eventually

Thank you!
The jaws are 1-1/2" and it weighs 1lb 2oz.
I can't find another mark on it...

Take Care!

My Wilton Cadet. I'd like to have a Wilton Bullet, but haven't came across one for a decent price yet. This compliments my Littlestown vise and 6" Wilton Mechanics vise.
