Picked up this nice Union box today at the local flea market.Looks like it will clean up nice. I found the tag to be interesting as well. The fellow that sold it to me said it was from an estate clean out. Had some junk inside,a Hazet Mercedes spark plug wrench and a nice pair of Oxwall pliers. I think this one will go on the shelf.

I finally got a chance to empty out this Craftsman stack I got a couple days ago. Found a 1-69 date on the top box. Haven't found any dates on the middle, or bottom, but I assume it's all about the same age. Even found the original owner's guide in the bottom drawer.

As far as tools, nothing too exciting or desirable. 95% of the wrenches are Craftsman with the random Plomb, Snap-On, and Billings thrown in.

Super happy with the condition of these boxes. A good wipedown and it will be ready to be put to use.

Nice tools and nice boxes.
Value of Craftsman USA is going up steadily.
Don't forget your drawer liners.

Even more amazing. This is perfect post for the 2017 GJ garage sale thread. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348891

So found this Waterloo. Owner asking $60. Is it worth it? Don't know much about these boxes. Anyone know the date of this one?

Just picked up this old Craftsman box today. Freakin' stout handle! Trying to decide if I should sell it, leave it as is, or restore it.

Leaning toward restoring it to it's original glory and storing my old Craftsman tool in it.

Nice find!! If it were me I'd wipe with a dry cotton cloth to take off whatever loose paint, rust and dirt and then clear coat it.. has a killer patina to it..

Waterloo is a good sturdy box in my opinion. I have a wider roller cab and love it. This one looks a little dirty and with a few dings but if the drawers are still good I would easily pay $60 for it.

I would say it was equivalent to a similar Craftsman of the same vintage. It's got a few dents and is dusty. Does it have the bottom door?

Hi everybody,
I'm a newbie here on the toolbox pages (mostly interested in vises) but I stumbled onto this box yesterday. Here is a pic as is, not even wiped off yet.
18x34 without the handle and 36 high.
It is complete with the pull out tambour door but has one incorrect drawer handle.
It has the 20 amp 2 prong electrical receptacles built into the top.
I can't find a model number on the back or sides. It has been repainted long ago.
I paid $100. It contained at least $100 worth of tools.

Any info your might share, GJ box gurus?
Anybody local interested in restoring it?

My newest grab. This one I am really excited about. 1941 Snap-On K37. Only thing not original are the casters but the holders are still there so might try and find period correct ones for it.

That is a 1950ish KR300 Rolla Bench, less the optional lower drawer set.

Does it still have the roll down front door? Of course it's missing the lamp.
Look closely on the front down at the bottom left for year and model info and let us know what u find.

Thank you 00fxd
Yes, the door is present and although sticky from years of neglect, it does still roll down.
Here is a pic of the lower left hand corner. I can't see any clues. I could rub off some of the paint...??? Are you certain that is where the number code is?

So, at the PIR swap last month i picked up an old wood chest:

Water damaged, a warped drawer, missing part of the front panel and the bible drawer. I just finished the restoration:

The pieces I had to make are nicer quarter sawn, but I don't mind the difernece, as you can always spot new work unless you are very, very good.

Nice repair job BMW! Well done!

Check on the Gerstner website for the finish materials, and it should match up pretty close!

Door on mine is pretty good...

Drawers are sticky. Door is balky but it does go up and down. No key but lock is there. Lots of flaking red paint letting go from the original orange.

Anybody want to estimate value?

(sorry, GJ has my pic sideways...will try to fix later)

What year are those rollers?

This style is from the 1950s. One has a date of 1958 (picture one), the third picture is of one I haven't checked, and the last box doesn't have a date (the oldest of the 3)

Can anyone identify this? I was thinking Proto, but now I'm not sure.

It is made by Waterloo but could have been branded as proto, new Britain , Blackhawk or Waterloo...

6P: i'd say Waterloo or New Britan, but not Proto. it looks on the low end of those brands too if it is either of them.

Riley: so do you and AE Neuman have all the heritage stuff under wraps now cause I haven't been able to snag a roller for a couple years now? shoot me emails on Proto cause i know you are looking for the PLVMB box i'm looking to replace that Smokeshow now has.

ALL: anybody have a LYON TOOLBOX that they haven't posted cause i'd love to see a few.

thanks in advance!!

I count myself as lucky to have found the boxes I now own, sometimes going days or weeks without searching CL. The thing I am learning is that if I don't act NOW I have little to no chance of acquiring them.

I have no idea what I have missed in your neighborhood over the past couple of years simply because I haven't looked all that often. I think we have plenty of competition from other non-GJ members out there. I am, however delighted to have met so many GJ members in our area - even those I have to compete with!

Image fixed.

I'm still looking for one of those mid 50s rollers. I've seen them sell for as cheap as 75 bucks and on FleaBay one went for 150 not long ago. The condition of the one on Ebay was similar to the one you have asked about.

All of that said, I'm hoping to fetch one for less than 100 bucks. We'll see if I ever pull that off.

Thanks for the input thehorse13
Too bad it won't fit in a flat rate box or we'd have a deal. ;)

Mine should be more orange than red, right?
If I can't sell it soon I should probably repaint it. I have a similar family heirloom machinist's chest (Kennedy) that might look good sitting on top. And any of us could use a few more drawers for tool storage... Sounds like I am trying to justify NOT selling it. :dunno:
