That Myer pump base is killer and definitely would make a cool piece of yard art or plant stand if you don't use it as a base for other machinery.

Man, that post inspired me to go out to some sales today and keep an eye out along the side of the roads!

If I strike out... It's national donut day and Krispy Kreme will give you a free donut of your choice. :)

It was a good thing/bad thing day at the Early Bird.

The good thing is I found a toolchest for an M4-B-6746 40 mm Anti-Aircraft Gun carriage. If you know anything about the Bofors gun, you know it came in all kinds of configurations: stationary, pulled (carriage), tracked, on ships, etc. This box was stowed on the carriage version somewhere for all the maintenance tools. It is extremely heavy and well-made, with both sets of handles, hasps and chains intact.

The bad thing is that means that instead of getting rid of some tools and stuff that I should probably be getting rid of I have another box to put them in!

The shop books are for the library.

LEFT-BEHIND

I was sorely tempted by this anvil/pipe vise combination (Patented in 1912), but it had a lot of dead spin on the screw and needed to be helped along with the heel of a hand, which I showed the seller, who still wouldn’t take less than $60 for it. That may have been a steal for all I know if it’s a collector’s piece (no maker’s marks, though), but I wanted it as a user.

Similarly was this Williams reversible ratchet. I was attracted by the unusual spud wrench end, but it only turned in one direction and for $35 that’s too much to mess around with trying to fix, for me.

Went to about half a dozen places today... Found a well used (but not abused) Stanley Handyman plane, rubber mallet, and a roll of sandpaper... Found a Cheers sign (not vintage or anything, came from Hobby Lobby, sticker still on back, lol) for $1... figured that would be okay to hang with the other beer signs on the wall.

We had a little storm blow through last night so as I was going around there were some branches that were all over the road. Stopped and tossed them aside so people wouldn't have to keep swerving around them. Later a big turtle was trying to cross the road and again I stopped and carried him across and into a field so he wouldn't get run over. So those were my good deeds for the day...

The National Road/Route 40 Yard Sales began in my area on Thurs.

Pic 1--Only picked up a Sweetheart STANLEY Low Angle BLOCK PLANE with patent date of 2-18-13 on the Knuckle Joint. In addition, got a can of Johnston Paste Wax and Engine Starter Fluid on Thurs

Pic 2--On Friday, got three draw knives The smallest at 8" is the folding handle variety that was marked USA but no maker mark. The second draw knife is a 10" Greenlee of Rockford IL. The last one is also a 10" marked Witherby.

Pic 3--Wire cutter with no mfg name, a Utica lineman cutter S-259-8 and marked on other side Bell System and may be a date code of 4-55 on one handle. Two adjustable wrenches with one being New Britain AW-10 and other being Utica Tool 8 inch. Pic 4 is close-up of Bell System name.

Pic 5--Keen Kutter 10" L by 2" W wood Chisel

Pic 6--Bedrock 603 hand plane patent date of Apr 19 10 but missing Lever cap, cap iron, blade and cap screw. Bought it anyway.

Pic 7--Thinking this tool may be used on farm, but will leave it to experts to identify.

Lots of people/good weather for this event.

Mike

Nice scores, Mike.
I think those tongs may simply be for a fireplace. The cups suggest picking something spherical out of the heat, but the handle end is too stylish for a utilitarian tool.
Tongs
Maybe the cups are to pick individual coals and reposition them.

Those tongs were made especially for placing the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. Unfortunately they got lost during the fellowships quest! Nice find!

Went to two estate sales today, not much at the first one except for a really cool Chas Parker Vise with a wheel instead of a handle. Someone already had it in hand by the time I got there. I asked how much it had sold for, the lady told me she got $100 for it.

Next sale was around the corner from my house, I was a little upset that I didn't go there first. Got there around 1130, and picked up the following for $20 even. 2 SK boxes for 1/4 in. metric sets; one 1/4 in. craftsman ratchet, -vv- code. An anvil/vise with the handle missing. No makings as far as I can see. A Hazet/Mercedes sprk plug socket extension, 9 minty Proto wrenches up to 32mm in size, the little feeler gauge, old school bench lamp, and milk crate.

Good catch on those Proto metrics.
Used metrics in any brand can be hard to come by, especially the large sizes.

LesserSon:

I think you may be right on that tool being a coal/wood ember tong.

What was throwing me was that most have flat pads, where this one had hollowed end pads, which I haven't seen before. Pic 1

The Bedrock 603 corrugated bottom with the missing parts had the old style body. Pic 2, 3 and 4.

The knuckle jointed low angle plane was found in separate pieces in a box with masonry tools. Both the plane blade and knuckle joint were marked sweetheart. No additional numbers except patent date on knuckle joint. I'm thinking maybe a Stanley 65-1/2 with 1-5/8" blade but could also be a 60-1/2 as well. Pic 5, 6 and 7.

Thanks.

Mike

Danger,
That anvil/vise combo looks an awful lot like the one I left behind (wanted way too much for its condition) at a flea market yesterday. And note that we're both in NJ. It was marked 'PATENTED AUG 10 1912' with a hard to read model number (S80A, 980A). Pics:

Good Man Jason!

Pics of the Cheers sign? As in the TV show?

Yeah it's the cheers logo with the little hand, just a stamped metal sign nothing fancy. I'll take some pics of the stuff today and post them.

You missed out on getting a free turtle! :lol_hitti

I thought about it, just letting him stay in the back yard. But I don't know how my dog would get along with him. It was kind of out in the country where there were some cow fields, so the turtle has more area to roam out there.

I will edit with the whole story later, the big really big DBE is a Plomb 1-7/16" & 1-1/2" to get Bluebomber excited though LOL.

Edit: So Friday morning I make out my list of interesting looking sales. At the first one which is well out of town they advertised tools but I didn't see any, asked the guy there and he said he hadn't got them out yet. So now I am thinking I should have passed on this one and think about leaving. Luckily I stayed!

So the guy says give me a minute and we will go look in the trailer. And it literally was only a couple of minutes. We walk back behind the house and start digging the stuff out of a 20 foot enclosed trailer. And boy there was plenty of stuff! I ended up paying a crisp new $100 bill for everything.

Pic 1: Button press and dies, Xacto knife kit with some Millers Falls carving tools in it too, Crain driving bar for installing nails in flooring when it's underneath an overhang like a cabinet.

Pic 2: A bunch of DBE's, many quite large including the previously mentioned Plomb 1 7/16 by 1 1/2. I will do a break down in the DBE thread later.

Pic 3: Craftsman stuff.

Pic 4: Hammers and prybars, the left ball peen is a Be Cu hammer, the metal one next to it that Oulaw asked about is branded "Security" and is one piece, not sure what the fork looking thing is, weed puller?

Pic 5: Combo and DOE wrenches and a few sockets.

Pic 6: Peck Stowe and Wilcox sheemetal pliers, farm wrenches, oil cans, clamps, ugly but usable large Snap On prybar, really unusual Truth obstruction wrench, Cummings Kit Vise.

Pic 7: old K-D hacksaw, horse tack stuff, pulley, small hanging scale. Anyone how what that large thing on the right is?

And more stuff.

Edit: Pics 1-6 are still from the $100 mega pick!

Pic 1: Plano organizer cases full of stuff in a Plano cabinet, ammo can with junk in it, 3 different sized steel blocks and an old toy gun.

Pic 2: Tool box/stool wit a lot of rusty tools, not many savable I am afraid.

Pic 3: Carpenters box with a few pieces, saws are in poor condition.

Pic 4, 5, 6: Decoder Video KY-118/GPX electronics cabinet somebody stripped and turned into a tool cabinet. The front panel comes open first and then the front half opens up as well.

Pic 7 is the next yard sale I went to, spent $11. 20 cans of unexpired food that I will actually eat, saving me money for more garage sales LOL. On top of the cans is a Plomb DBE and a Penens baby pipe wrench. USA made outside thermometer and one of my favorite finds, a Craftsman Crown yard cart, unfortunately missing the handle.

Here my finds while traveling the 400 mile sale on US68 and the U.S. 25 sale, both in KY.
A Diamond 18" monkey wrench, a older CM c clamp, channel locks and a socket type wrench of some kind.

A couple of Vise Grip Dewit, sliding locking c clamps.

Didn't get to ride as much of the routes this year, didn't see very much as far as tools go, but lots of interesting things. Great people along the way.

Out Saturday again at the National Road/Route 40 Yard Sales.

Went back to two of the vendors I'd bought from on Friday, to buy a few more things.

Pic 1--Pair of Jorgensen 3712's steel bar clamps, Stanley #151 spokeshave, a no name spokeshave, US Stubb Hand vise clamp.

Pic 2-7 is company marked what looks like Raybestos and found some cast numbers on some areas that start with WC1337. Also on tool is #30 seat plunger base and some fittings marked K-8, K-6, K-5 and K-4. Foot powered and it does a great job of punching a new hole in my old leather belt. Given name, not sure if this tool is used on brakes, so if anyone knows, let me know.

Lots of cool finds guys! I just got back and will post shortly...

Mike, I agree its probably for brakes; That's definitely the Raybestos logo style. Do the punches have shoulders for rivets?

Mike, someone just did a restore on one of those here at GJ. It's red and on a black stand, new thread maybe a week old. The user name slips my mind right now and the foot press is a different brand iirc but looks identical. I'm on my phone or I would link you. If you check my recent posts, it should be there.

went to 2 Estate sales today. Both were second days of the sale. The first had nearly 400 pictures on Estate Sales.net and I spied a few items I hoped to get. Some was gone but I was able to purchase this Parker 474 double swivel vise, weighing in at 74 pounds!! It has both wrenches still attached, thanks to the c-clip keeper ring.It moves freely in all directions and included the pocket calendar books from Parker/Union mfg. co.

The other tools are a few Indestro wrenches, couple Vaco screwdrivers and some Master Mechanic square drive screwdrivers along with a Plomb extension and unmarked scissors .Not including the vise I spent less than my combo meal at Taco Bell.

Finally got something to report here! Start of this season has been horrible for me here, haven't been able to find a worthwhile thing at sales (tool or not) until today. I was hoping for more but that's life.

First stop that netted me something was a nice sale, older gentlemen's estate sale with a lot of cool stuff, except his son knew what it was worth and things were priced accordingly. He had a really nice older South Bend lathe in seemingly excellent shape, but I neither have a need for it now, the space for it, or the 3200$ he was asking for it.

I ended up buying the homemade grinder stand for 20$.

Went to a few other sales that sounded promising but nothing panned out.

The 18R Vise Grips in the box from the first sale were already starting to haunt my dreams so back I went. He had them priced at 25$, much more than I normally pay for Vise Grips, but I've never found this model, and this was first time I happened upon a pair in their original box. Copyright on the box is from 1972. Grabbed the Record No 2 swivel vise from there too, it also was already starting to haunt me, as I can never find swivel bases around here. The base is pretty rusty but it seems to be only on the surface and other than that is in extremely good shape.

The village where my MIL lives was having a village wide sale, and one sale I had seen online promised "lot's of tools (husband died)". Unfortunately it didn't have an exact address but I sort of knew where it was, it took me a while to find it and I missed out on some good stuff from the pictures. Grabbed the cabinet and the door panel removal tool for 6$. I don't usually buy tools from Princess Auto at sales, but I actually needed this and was going to grab one at the store for 4$ tommorow.

I may have overpaid for these at $ 16, but I didn't need a big set, and I think Ryobi is a good brand. A comparable, new set sells for $ 26 at the box stores. Good, not great buy?

This sale had complete sets of Thorsen and Craftsman sockets, wrenches, etc. I don't have the room, but a good selection to be sure!

Anything less than store price is always a good deal if you can use it. Not every GS find is going to be a steal... ;)

Here's pictures as promised of the $1 "Cheers" sign, and also the hand plane that I paid $10 for.

The "Beer 5c" mirror sign I found a few months ago at another GS, I think I paid 50 cents for it.

Today was the first time in a long time of hitting it out of the park.

Dang it! Lost my whole post! One more time...

An interesting if not spectacular day. I did start with some tools in the first couple of stops...

First up at an Apt. Yard sale was an NOS RCBS Jr Press! Warrenty card dated June of 1962! nothing had a zip code on it!

$10 for the press - even the plastic grip for the handle was not installed adn the bsr it went on is still under the press in a fold of cardboard!

the Sound meter (new battery so it was tested on site) Williams ratchet, and tire gauge were all a buck apiece. the tire gauge has a magnet so that will go in the rig, and the Williams may e WWII as its not plated.

Next up was an Estate sale. $10 for four wrenches; SO 2 Williams, and a Proto, 3 cans of Freon 12, A clamp that probably was for a small patio umbrella (think 60's...) the multi wrench was thrown in, (forced on me... ) and the wood handled Robinson driver, which is a size larger that what I have around here. it says its pat'd in 1935. Oh yes the Coleman 502 single burner stove was two of the ten bucks. Dated Feb 1980 pump works and it holds pressure, looks barely used.

This stuff came from several places; a buck for the Plvmb driver, and $5 for the two belts and the Bianchi flash holster, and a small brass hammer I forgot to include in the pic. The Fiskars were cents 25 at the HS flea. the blades needed cleaning but are very sharp!

This tactical vest was all of $5! she said it was her son's and he wasn't there so 5! I said "Well he should be here then." "It's summer vacation he's still in bed..."
