I took apart my deck and it was laid with cedar. I saved most of the wood and repurposed some. Pieces are 8'-20' long and was taking up a lot of room inside the shop.

Built this rack with some steel to go under my rear ramp. I have 2' overhangs and this rack is 2' wide. All PT and cedar on it.

Not an original idea, but after shuffling boxes the past year I built these with a buddy.

Materials:
2 sheets 1/2" plywood
20' of 1x6 pine for slides
Wood Glue
1 1/4 screws
1 3/4 screws
Casters

Took a few hours and I will be painting my two.

And I went through and started to label the yellow bins with my 1980's vintage label maker.

I might have done a full back on that. Is it sturdy? A little battleship grey and it will look even more industrious! Great job!

xyster- you should get a belt sander, they're pretty handy!

Did you see the first picture? There are three in the background, but that is at my work. I have a hand held one and bench top model.

They are sturdy racks, I did not have enough wood for a full back.

Hi!
Does anybody have a good idea how to store a 3 stage (so not so long but thick package when slided together) ladder attached to the ceiling (wood beams aprox 20" apart from each other). Ladder is only used every few months.
This type:

Yeah, that was my attempt at sarcasm! :lol_hitti

I love bikes, but they sure take up a lot of space and without kick stands they block whatever tool box they are leaned against or fall on the floor.
Do this:
1. Screw 2 big hooks into ceiling
2. Add pulley to ceiling
3. Run rope with hook around bike tube
4. Pull it up and away!

Still 8 ft to bottom of bikes. I do have to sorta hold the front tire as it rotates up, but works great.

I might just steal your design. My bikes are already on hooks. The clear access to the walls and extra headroom and would be nice.

I happened to be at Lowe's yesterday, and I remembered this thread, so I picked one up. $99 on sale. They had one left.

I'll unbox it today.

I made a "prototype" for my power tools out of a scrap of plywood. Not boxed or anything, just a long piece of plywood attached to a cabinet. Drilled/cut holes for the cordless drills saws lights and stuff to hang down from. I planned on building something a little nicer, but 3 years later the prototype is still in use

You guys will love the power tool storage. It's probably my single favorite storage system in my shop. Everything right there together, always charged, always handy, along with drill bits, driver bits, etc. You will love it.

Here's my homemade version. I have since added a power strip. Only took an hour or so and a sheet of plywood.

I like that cordless tool storage unit, but I have next to no wall space left and I keep my tools under lock and key when not in use...

Man that's pretty cool. Seen a lot of home made set ups like this.

Got one of these a few weeks ago when I finally got around to setting up my garage. Very nice unit that keeps everything together. The pegboard on the side is a nice touch for hanging accessories and other items.

Whats the mounts for those ladders?

I welded up the cradle...ran cables and pulleys over to a remote winch...works great.

Keeps them out of the way, and makes it so that I don't need to reach up on the wall for them...

That sounds great. I'm trying to figure something out for my building. It's very high up but I lack wall space to hang them. Any video of yours in action?

After seeing that Kobalt cordless tool cabinet I had to go get one for myself. Unfortunately I didn't have enough "modern" cordless tools to fill it so I had to go on Amazon this morning and find 2 more Dewalt cordless tools to fill it properly. Thanks garage journal members,,,, you just cost me another $600...

Nice, I'm looking a hanging system like this:
Kayak/ladder hoist

Nice, I've got plans to build something similar for my cordless tools once my garage is built.

Great build! Do you still have the specs from when you built it out?
