Finally had a chance to research the ramps. I was only able to to find one reference from Farm Show Magazine in 1977. I was wrong, the capacity of the pair is 3000lbs. BONUS ! :D

I can load a small tractor with them. (Damn, now I need to buy a small tractor. [emoji38]_hitti )
IMG_0513.jpg
The ramps may be good for it but I don't think I am putting a skid steer in the back of my pick up. In their defense they were much lighter back then

Also, silly question: when you mentioned getting a number in your other post I assumed you meant a bidders number. I have been to many auctions, mostly farm equipment but some estate auctions. As I read farther it seems like this is something different. I am also familiar with the yard sale style....but this seems different.

Hit a few yard sales before rain came.

Pic 1 & 2 are what seems to be my Nemesis at yard sales, as can't seem to walk away from them. One of these days I'm going to decorate a wall of them.

In this case, the upper one in pics is an E. C. Atkins of Indianapolis IN. Blade from tip to end measures 26 inches and has a TPI # 5. Handle has some scroll designs cut into handle on one side.

Two middle saws are unknown, no medallion, hand saws. One is 25-1/2 inches long, while other is 22 inches long

The bottom saw is a Disston & Sons D-8 with blade from tip to end at 20-1/8 inches and TPI #11.

Pic 3--Mostly Craftsman V 1/2" sockets 13/16/ 9/16, 11/16, 5/8, 15/16, 7/8, 1/2 and one inch.

CRAFTSMAN -V- 1/2'' DRIVE SOCKET SPEED HAND CRANK SPINNER

Also a 1/4 drive small Craftsman socket set with drivers in metal Craftsman marked metal container.

Two non Craftsman sockets was an Indestro Super 1/2" drive 5/8 deep socket #3020 and a Bonney A32 one inch socket

Pic 4--Pair of single mantle propane lanterns by American Camper, with both missing their glass globes. In same picture is a Stanley No. 397 curved wood rasp plane.

Pic 5--from previous day. Bought a 14" piece of railroad track, a gallon of Tap Magic Cutting Fluid, a gallon of VM&P Naphtha and Qt of Flood Easy Surface Prep.

I actually had a few garage and several estate sales on a weekday, even if it was a Friday!

First stop was also my last stop as they were not done setting up. The also started drinking Mimosa's before they even finished setting up! :spit:

So I moved on and at the best looking ES, I got a 4" Truecraft adjustable, a Ford wrench, A Williams superwrench DBE, a 50 cal case, dated 1945, and an old lamp reputedly from Portugal and she claimed was older than I was and had belonged to her grandmother as a young girl, who passed 20 years ago at 90..

attachment.php

Also this wind chime with the softest prettiest tinkleing tone! Ten for all the above.

attachment.php

The others stops had noting I wanted, to part $$ for, and it was back t the first stop where I picked up the deer bookends, a dozen new beeswax, candles, and a vintage picture frame as SWMBO prefers old funky frames like this... $7 all

The book ends are already in place holding mostly hunting/camping books up on shelves over my desk.

Around here, the estate sale companies either put a signup sheet out, or hand out numbers for entry into the house before the sale starts. It's a way for them to limit the flow of people into the house, and avert a rush for the door when they open. These sales aren't auctions, they're more like self-serve cleanouts with a checkout counter and referees.

Woah be unto he/she who violates the order.
The experienced members of the crowd are self regulating. :Violent:

For a really good sale, there are diehard's who will camp out in their cars. They start their own list and the person running the ES will start with that.

Craigslist, Estate Sales [dot](net, org, or com), as well as the estate sale companies websites.

There's a lot of research done during the week to finalize a route for the weekend. You need to carefully read descriptions and scrutinize any photos included to spot anything worth checking out. With time and experience, you start to get a feel for the listings as to whether they're worth bothering with. I still get fooled.

Just remember, the really good sales don't happen every week, and a true honey hole only shows up once a year if you're lucky. Sometimes less often.

If you see an item in a photo that you're hot for, you may need to camp out at dawn just to have a chance at it. You'll be competing with professionals.

Craigslist, GSALR is also good, all the estatesale dot whatevers, auctionzip, etc, etc...

Also it's worth looking to see if there is a facebook group in your area. People are strange and will post only the most obscure places...

For every one sale I plan on going to (found online), I'll probably stop at about another 3-5 that I just happen to see a sign. You never know what you will find... Like today my neighbor and I planned on going to an estate sale with tools. I bought a lot, he bought two small things. On the way back though we stopped at like 5 garage sales or more. He found 3 weedeaters, 1 lawnmower, 1 old singer sewing machine, and I don't even know what else. I found a few goodies too (will be postings pics soon).

There was an estate sale this morning, starting at 8am... Got there about 7:45am not really sure if they would open early or not. Thankfully not, and there was only one other guy there before us. Door opened promptly at 8am and we made a b-line to the garage.

First thing I grabbed was the SK socket set, second thing I grabbed was the CMan wrenches on the metal rack. There was a plastic blow-mold Craftsman crowtop box with something in it but since I kind of snatched the other two good things while we both had our hands on things I told the other guy he could have it (since he was so cool about letting me have the other two things). Inside was a nice 3/8" RHFT CMan ratchet and like an 8pc socket set. It was only $3.50, and I really liked the crowtop case but oh well. I like to just slowly work my way through, that other guy was a pro he skimmed everything quick and snatched up a handful. He let me look at what he got, mostly craftsman things but nothing that really interested me except a Stanley Handyman plane (which I already had one exactly like it so no big loss). I think he went to pay and put it in his car because he was gone briefly but then came back. By that time I already found a big cardboard box and had it pretty full... Everything was priced cheap, and I'm kicking myself for not getting more initially because I went back later in the day on my way to run errands and the place was pretty well cleaned out. I *try* to leave some things for others but sometimes it's hard to pass up a deal. This guy had mostly Craftsman, Powr Kraft, and Stanley Handyman.

Okay, so now to go in order with the pics...

Powr Kraft torque wrench, Sears Kromedge 12" Wood Rasp (very wicked looking and sharp) made in austria, Some Craftsman nail punches, and a couple other brands not in pouch, Stanley Handyman wood chisels, and the one with the bright yellow is just a plain Stanley. Some misc Craftsman socket pieces and a 1/2" Powr Kraft extension. A 50' Craftsman measuring tape, a little $2 oiler (It was so little and cool looking, I just couldn't pass it up). A sears propane tip, feeler gauges, and some other Craftsman wooden thing (no idea, no part #)... I snagged a couple box cutters from a box with a ton of them, I think the guy used to work at Chef-Way as there was a lot of schwag around the house.

Next pic... Craftsman level, I have a longer one same style so figured why not. Hansen scratch awl, a little stanley handyman hand plane, no-name ball peen head, Craftsman & Powr Kraft chisels, VLChek punch, 14mm Craftsman combo wrench. New Britain flex head ratchet, Handyman hand drill, Craftsman USA pliers, and the little needle-nose I think were made in England, very tight tolerance on those.

Okay, first "big" interesting item. A set of old Craftsman DOE wrenches in a metal holder. I have lots of DOEs, but I've never seen a metal holder like that. Also the wrenches aren't chrome, not sure what finish... The metal stand can stand vertical on its own, horizontal, or hang on a wall.

Some swingpresses... ;) Almost a comical sized rubber mallet. I think it said "No. 4 USA" on the head. A JCPenny hatchet! Finally a Craftsman engineers hammer.

Lastly is the other "big" interesting item. A diamond-logo SK socket set in metal box. They are the old knurled sockets but in excellent shape (wish I could say the same for the box), nice SK ratchet, extra CMan & PowrKraft sockets & extensions.

After the estate sale on the way home we hit like 5 or 6 more garage sales. My neighbor started loading up the back of my truck with a push mower, several weed eaters, an old Singer sewing machine, and I don't remember what else...

At this one yard sale a lady was still bringing stuff out and they had a trailer parked in front too. I started looking through the trailer and saw a big wooden box, not sure what it was at first....

First neat find (I thought of Outlaw when I saw it) was a camp kitchen. I opened it up and it looked complete and there was some paperwork I skimmed over. I asked the lady "How much?" because I honestly had NO idea of it's value. I was kind of guesstimating a sheet of ply + hardware for cost. She says, "How does $10 sound?" I said "Sold!"... :)

Looking at it closer once I got it home it appears to be missing the upper shelf, but that's no biggie I can make one. Also will probably make the extensions for the counter, I think that was an optional thing but it has the slots for them on the front. Not sure what I will finish it with, probably a light color stain & exterior polyurethane? Outlaw... thoughts???

I looked up the maker's website... http://mycampkitchen.com/ Almost had a heart attack when I saw what they charged for their "kit"...

Second neat find was a new in the box acurite weather station... $20 :) This is the nice model with color display, hooks up to a PC to upload data that you can view on your phone and all that good stuff...

So, does anyone know what this is? A sander, a scraper? All it says is "Craftsman" on the handle on one side...

Jason, Nice finds on both the camp kitchen and the weather station!

While I have used a clear finish on some camp gear, to be honest a high gloss paint lives longer. The clear ploy's don't do that well wet. and I always plan for wet...

I'm sort of big on forest green for camp gear or something like Chevy Orange for things I want very visible (trip hazards, or "don't lose this!" things...)

When you see an ad on CL that looks like this, you have to go get it!

4 boxes full of tools. Naturally, the two Craftsman boxes on the right are what caught my eye!

That makes *4* red/gray Craftsman middle chests for me. That's one for each of my rollers!

I already sorted out all the Chinese junk from the good tools and stuffed the two boxes on the left with the junk. The two boxes on the left will be quickly resold. No pictures, but rest assured, I did well.

Paid $125 for all

Brian

Outlaw,
The lamp is a very old design and probably is older than you or dirt! :rocker:
If it has some markings on it...........but you already know that!

Thanks for the tip... Okay, then I think I might plan to paint it similar to the Coleman Green, to match my stove and such... ;)

Auto parts run this morning gave me a chance to hit some yard sales on the way back. No joy at the first two TOOs (didn't even get out of the truck), but a targeted stop yielded a 1/2" Herbrand 32000 ratchet (nice and shiny, might not be too old), a 15' two prong extension cord, a 14' yard stake extension cord, and a rafter square with the short end cut down to 12". All for $4.

I also spotted but didn't buy this Stanley Tools cabinet. It appeared to be of the same era as some of the Craftsman cabinets we've seen on this thread before, but since I have no Stanley tools, I didn't find it compelling.

Nothing at all for me the past 2 weeks, all the estate sales have been about 12-20 miles from me and the local yard sales have been nothing but junk. :dunno:

nix for me today. still working on the compressor from last week. new belts, outlet fittings, drain, base, cleanout, test run-ups in 25-psi increments to 150, where switch cuts off. just have to clear a place for it and install the plumbing.

Went to two major ones on Thursday but absolutely nothing of value in either garage. We use C List and F book to find them. We also have 3 favorite estate sale companies here that we make a special effort to go to their sales. Besides tools I also look for chess sets and vintage pens & pencils. For you chess lovers out there I found a beautiful Stanton style in ebony & boxwood made in France probably by Lardy decades ago. That to me is the equivalent of finding vintage tools in pristine condition. Anyone want to play by text - pm me. Off topic sorry. Ramblings of an old man!

A very scattered day for stuff. kinds thin on tools. This will take 2 posts for all the pics..

an Early stop near my house: the guy told me "just go enjoy those"... Stuff for the ladies of the house to reuse, and a mini pouch I'll try to find a use for.

attachment.php

Couple of wrenches at the second stop.. a buck; and the Tape and music box were a quarter each at the third stop:

attachment.php

Third stop continued: Cents fifty for the old Eagle gas can the fil cap is a vented style so you KNOW its old..

attachment.php

Still the third stop a crappy tool box full of mostly **** but for a buck I thought I could get that much from it, then we plan a garage sale and I'll put all the junk tools out for cheap, and any that don't sell go to scrap...

Stop 3 continued:

Some chain was in the box,

attachment.php

And some Hose clamps,

attachment.php

Most of the rests was junk: only the "front row" are worth even considering three vaco nut drivers, a few Stanley sockets, one of the spark plugs will go on a clamp for spark testing...

attachment.php

That back row (Sorry for the glare but you ain't missing much!) is a "Who's Who" of **** tools - China, India, Siri Lanka (really; Siri Lanka??? :eyecrazy: ) etc...

Still on the third stop: the navy poster was cool for a buck.

attachment.php

On to the forth stop: The oil painting may be the score of the day? :dunno: we looked up the artist and apparently he was active in the early 1900's to late 40's and one landscape was auctioned off for $1000! :bounce: So this one is a candidate for "antiques road show" if and when...

I'd like to know what the peak is in the background... :headscrat

Stop 5 was this water fire extinguisher for $5. full of water and pressurized! so should be good to go! its only defect is the gauge glass is broken but I think I have another dead gauge with good glass so I'll pop the bezels and swap...

attachment.php

This is the second "wide mouth" version of one of these recently so I'll mask off the label, paint them both flat black and use then for water up camping. tow of these and my other 5 Gallon can makes ten gallons of washing water. enough for me for about a week usually...

Outlaw, you **** on that painting!! I can't help ID the mountain.

I found this DBE Plomb for $1. I can't recall seeing a wrench with two size markings (5/8" USS) and 1-1/16". I assume 5/8 is for the bolt O.D. and 1-1/16 if for the nut.

Also found a couple Ford wrenches in the $.25 tub. I didn't know ratcheting wrenches went this far back.

P7220015.jpg

P7220018.jpg

An assortment. SO Pliers $2, 4" Green Diamond $2, 1/2" SK - $2, little SO Box $.50, set of 3 CM RHFT ratchets - $30, Duplex Crescent wrench $20, SO 3/8" flex bent handle ratchet - $30

P7220019.jpg

P7220020.jpg

Nice working L&R Ultrasonic Cleaner - $10

P7220039.jpg

"6 gallons" of old vacuum tubes - $5

P7220041.jpg

Last stop was a pro run estate sale which I generally hate but decided to bend over a buy this oak cabinet for $95. Ouch!! I'm guessing 1950's or 60's??? Should be nice for smaller tools/machinist tools.

Hit a few garage sales, between the rains this morning.

Only item purchased was a metal 6 drawer cabinet marked on top with a sticker for The Bowman Products Company Cleveland-Oakland-Toronto. Each drawer on left side has a stamped out logo of above company (see pic 7)

Bowman Products Company provided service and parts for automotive and aviation vehicles.

Size of cabinet is approximately 15" Wide by 15" Tall by 12" Deep.

Suspect that each drawer might have also had a tray insert, but none found on this one.

Went to 7 or 8 garage sales today, struck out for tools at all of them. Did find a nice 24 drawer Akro-Mils storage cabinet filled with hardware and missing two drawers at an estate sale yesterday for $4. Also a nice batch from the Habitat for Humanity store - Craftsman Yankee style screwdriver, Proto 9/16 wrench, P&C cold chisel, Penncraft 1/2" Extension, Corbin hose clamp pliers and about 1/3 of a roll of tar paper to fix a spot on my shed all for $8.

I decided to try to sleep in this morning, so I ditched 2 yard sales on my list. Went to 2 YS's and a TOO that started later instead. Left the house at 7:30, got home at 11:30. The two sales were in opposite directions.

The first sale and the TOO were a bust. Chinese Craftsman, that's it.

The second sale was a known bonanza. It was a repeat from a sale I missed last year. A disabled retiree that was selling off all his unused tools. He now tinkers with selling bicycles when he can move, and is trying to clear out his tools to make room. Last year, he closed the sale early, just before I arrived, because he wasn't feeling well. I was determined to get there when he opened today to pick through what was left. I didn't have to worry, plenty of good stuff still for sale. SK, SnapOn, Thorson, and a few Williams. He also had a lot of 60's/70's Craftsman on the tables. He was selling cheap (too cheap), but he didn't care, he wanted the tools to go where they would be appreciated. I left a lot of good stuff behind because my wallet's a bit thin right now. Definitely keeping an eye out for another sale.

I was the only one there for the first hour, before another guy showed up. I spent most of my time talking tool brands with him and filling him in on what's selling at good prices on eBay. He was unaware of the current goings on with the major brands, or which Craftsman series are good or junk. It was a good pick.

I was determined to pay whatever his asking price was, so I left some good stuff behind. Hopefully it will still be there next time. In the end, I showed him my small pile and he asked for ........

After getting home and sitting for a bit, I decided to go back to yesterday's ES down the street (sans toddler), just to see if anyone had picked up the Craftsman circle-H socket set I ignored the first time. I got there as they were cleaning up to close for the day (3-day sale). The socket box was still in the garage, but it had been cherry picked. Someone took the ratchet and breaker bar (possibly a socket or two) and left the rest of the kit. Grabbed that and a few other things.

$10
partial Craftsman circle-H 3/8dr socket set (I have the ratchet in my hoard)
Arnold replacement snow thrower cleanout tool
bag 'O steel shelving nuts/bolts

Who grabs a vintage ratchet and breaker bar, and leaves the rest of the kit behind ????? :wtf:

It didn't start, so I got it for $70. I took it home, checked the oil, gassed it up, and changed the sparkplug; now it's running like a champ :)
