A few wrenches I picked up Friday.

Top 8 wrenches are Williams of which one is a Vulcan.

Bottom left is 4 Craftsman, 3 metric and one short 5/8 - 3/4 that looks like V series but has no V marking.

Bottom right is an unusual wrench with Armor Clip Bolts on one side and ACOA Cat No 4300 on the other. Anyone know what this is for? Private Lugnutz?

Newly-acquired Bonney single-offsets.

Kewl, Lesser Son! You have one bigger and one smaller than I have for my set. I'm still hunting to complete it.

Nice posts, fellas! I've been a poor thread host lately--work has kept me very busy and not out hunting DBEs. Keep posting away your finds, both sale-wise and research-wise (I'm talking to you, Twertsy!).

Happy 4th of July holiday weekend, all!

2 weeks worth of finds all at once! Lectrolite was from the Monday before last and the Bonney was acquired today. It is the fifth one of that size I have found, and it is different from
the others.

Why have double box ends fallen out of favor these days?

Much cheaper to buy a set of combos over a set of DOE and a set of DBE.

My Dad never used them, he always had combos because they were the hot new thing when he was starting out. Lol.

I always thought they were cool but it wasn't until about 3 years ago I stated collecting them and using them. I however don't have any full sets of DOEs so I use the DBE along with my combos.

Picked up a few more yesterday.

The Dunlap set will go in my collection after a little cleanup, I really like the screw clip!

The 3 piece Trufit set also has the screw clip.

Above the Trufits are an Indestro and a Proto Los Angeles.

In the old days, DBE wrenches were often longer than the DOE wrenches, so they had more leverage. Nowdays combination wrenches are often just as long as old DBE's were, so the leverage advantage is no longer an advantage.

When comparing cost per size, you have to compare DOE and DBE wrenches. Combos are a different class, and one could argue that a set of combos equals a set of DOE and DBE wrenches combined. Of course, you don't have another wrench the same size to hold the fastener on the other side!

You forgot one very important point - and that is the off-sets angles. There are all kinds of off-set angles available with DBE wrenches, which makes them indispensable in my book! My DBE wrenches have saved me much headache over the years!

And speaking of DBE wrenches, I picked up these last weekend when I bought a P&C carry box with "misc tools".

Of all the strange things I have found over the years, one could argue that someone having 7 N-84 round shank DBEs in their tool box would be near the top.

However, the seller told me something that I should have considered while I was pondering why there were 7 of these wrenches in one small tool box; none of which had a maker's mark (a couple looked to have been ground off). The seller got these from his aunt, whose husband had worked for P&C tools. My guess is that he must have brought home some rejects from work. Why all this one size - who knows? The beauty will be when my heirs try to figure out why the heck I have 7 N-84 DBE wrenches in my tool box! Scratch that - I already had 1, so make that 8!

Brian

- (7 ea) Unmarked N-84 7/8" x 13/16" (They are most likely P&C but could also be Plomb)
- Thorsen #2224 7/8" x 3/4"
- Indestro #933 5/8" x 11/16" deep off-set shorty
- Proto # 8182 5/8" x 11/16" (broken)
- P&C 100 #P2514 7/16" x 3/8"
- P&C #2512 3/8" x 5/16"
- P&C #2008 7/16 x 3/8" (Unusual 90° off-set and 6 pt)

Not many DBEs lately, I did pass on a few at the flea that would have been triplicates.

Bought this Vlchek set from eBay, was a little expensive but I like these ever since I found a couple old rusty ones at a boot sale, nice wrenches and long lengths.
View media item 71949

Ooh, those are pretty choice! You didn't see Vlcheks in the original roll very often. Or in my case, at all!

After a very long dry spell on eBay, some of my search notifications are starting to ring. I picked up this Bonney single offset to fill in the upper end of my single offset set I got in trade from twertsy last year (pics below).

71a9eaf4fce1baaea31c475838017671.jpg

My new wrench:

Bonney Zenel Z2830, single offset, 15/16"

Of course, this wrench is from the Zenel era, so now I'm gonna need to start collecting a full set of them... so maybe I'm actually losing ground...c67671f7afa8a3e09b5a50c4f32bcb73.jpgd29ca682995d39794d83e6822d16a04f.jpg951464cd93599bd73821d18aebe4d04e.jpgc90415ba93cda28f0b95b8cd39365ab9.jpg

My other Bonney single offset came in last week, and I never got around to posting it.

Bonney 2834, single offset, 1-1/16"

This is from yet another era of Bonney production, with the part number on the side of the shank. So, yet another series started... the more I find, the behinder I get!

Another Ebay jackpot came in today, with a total of 78 wrenches, DBEs, DOEs and combos for $53.28, shipping included. Of the 78, only 13 where foreign makes, but even those were of good quality.

How about two Hazet V-10s, or a Heyco DIN 895? Or a selection of early Blue Point ignition DOEs? Or some Snap-on combos?

Looks like quite the haul! I need to keep a better eye on eBay for a few wrenches I need to finish sets. I've been distracted lately with one of my other hobbies.

Nice intakes, folks! R_olson's scrum of sizes, manufacturers, and price was a superb deal. Well done, all.

Bonneyman and I are trading PMs over a pile of DBEs from his stash. However, that deal won't conclude until I return from this trip.

I updated my Thorsen set yesterday and took the opportunity to take a picture of the DBE wrenches.
