I saw a CL ad yesterday for a woodworkers G-sale and he listed "disassembled Delta 17-600 DP". I emailed him last night and he said it's still avail so I headed out this morning to look at it.

It was in several piles in his garage and he said "how about $50".

We gathered all the parts and it looks complete so I bought it.

It actually looks barely used. Table is nearly perfect.

Landed a nice later Craftsman 1/2hp Block Grinder on a original (I think) stand today for $40.

I'm back from a week-long northern Minnesota canoe trip not 12 hours, and find an estate sale like 3 miles from my house. I've driven by this place for years on my way to work, wondering what was in the big outbuildings and watching the property fall into disrepair.

Well, today was the day to see the place. It was evident right away that the former owner was one of those people who never threw anything away. There were boxes and boxes of old magazines, a dozen different titles going back 40 years. [editorial note: I have a Hot Rod magazine collection that dates to the early 90s, so I'm not judging]. He also had everything neatly organized, labeled and arranged, so not exactly a hoarder situation.

This was day 2, so many of the tools were long gone, but it was also half-price day. I managed to find some bargains.

Snow shovel, because New England winters make these tools consumables

Craftsman table saw blade guard--can anyone help narrow down what saw this might go to? No part number anywhere.. I hope to put it up on eBay to cover my costs, which were...

0465d9e3ee67b760a80ac85be1f14ac9.jpg

$15 for all of the above!

I also spotted a pile of two by twelves in a shop basement that looked like new, and a 12" x 6" Craftsman planer/molder with a $400 price tag. While I was still there, I ran into some former Boy Scout troop members who had bought a Craftsman RAS and were looking to take it home in their Pontiac Vibe :headscrat. I told them all about the recall on the Craftsman RAS' and the retrofit blade guards they could get for free from Emerson. Then, I offered my truck to help haul their new acquisition home.

I returned a half hour before closing to ask about the planer. It was a monster Craftsman with a 5 hp 230V motor and although I don't really need one that big, I'd buy one if the price was right. Fortunately for me, the guy who runs the company was gone, so his female partner did the negotiating. I like negotiating with Sue, because she always offers a lower price for tools than I'm thinking will be my starting position. I got the planer for $200. She also gave me a price of $20 for the 2x12x16-ft boards that would have cost me $150 at Home Depot. Oh yeah. :bounce:

Now, if you read this far, here's where things turned weird. Right at closing time, the current property owner shows up with the police and orders everyone off the property precisely at the closing time of the sale--at once, everyone out! Fortunately, I had already paid for the planer and boards, so a bunch of us buyers scrambled to get our purchases either loaded or off the property post haste. I had some help from a father and two boys loading the he-eh-eh-avy planer into my truck, and I in turn helped them get their jointer to the curb. I didn't hear why the owner was so sour, and didn't wait around to find out!

I had to do a little tetris work to make room in the garage for the planer. I really need to get my second garage and wood shop built to free up some floor space in the main garage. Maybe I should also just stop bringing **** home...

That's a heck of a score Dave!!

That Craftsman grinder is really clean Chris! I don't tent to find them clean like that around here.

Today I went to the flea market and I got two long torx screwdrivers and a short Phillips, one torx is a Mac and the other two are snapon. I do question the long black handle being a snapon but it is very nicely made.

Then I found a 1979 Camaro model that was opened, only the body has been painted from what I can tell. But it was mixed with two-3 other models so I had to take them all. He wanted $10 but I later asked again if he would take $5 and he said deal! I got two other complete 79 Camaro model so I was going to use this one for parts unless I find all of the parts.

Then right before I was leaving I found this Craftsman 14" planer still in the box and had the instructions in it! Guy goes $10, I asked $7 and he goes $10. I said ok, I had to ask! Lol

So this 14" planer goes well with my 9" planer I got awhile back!

After work I headed down to Peabody,MA to get some Snap On extensions that I found on CL. Well that trip turned out to be a honey hole. An elderly couple was moving and the husband was selling his tool collection. I bought the following for $300 total.
1. Snap On 1/2" and 3/8" extension sets, Both Brand New
2. Bondhus Hex Drivers, Brand New
3. Allen Hex Bit Socket Set
4. Snap On YELLOW Mini Screwdriver Set, Brand New
5.Craftsman Speeder Ratchet - Number 2!!
6. Klein 15" Adjustable, Japan Made
7. Vaco 12" Adjustable
8. Snap On 10" Adjustable, Brand New
9. Snap On 8" Adjustable, Brand New
10. Snap On 6" Adjustable, Brand New
11. Spellman Transfer Punch Set, Brand New
12. Roper Whitney Sheet Metal Punch

I knew I shouldn't have left Danvers to move to AZ. Those tools all look in mint condition. Great score all around. But I really like the CM Speeder Ratchet.

Smokin' deal Dave, and single phase to boot. That table is worth more than $50. by itself. I parted one of those out a while ago and still have some parts left if you come up short.

Of craigslist i found a ladder i needed for my new build that has some crazy high gutters that need cleaning.

40 ft aluminum extension ladder for $150. The guy wouldn't go any lower so its not quite a steal but as far as ladders that size i sure didn't get ripped off either.

Already made a neat celing mount in the shop as its too long to leave on the floor and i dont really have 20ish feet of availible wall space either. The chains and hardware cost 30 bucks at my local farm store. Serves me right shoulda waited til tomarrow probably a little cheaper at regular hardware store.

Thank you and everyone else for the compliments! The story with the speeder is the guy's wife had all the Snap On laid out on a table neatly labeled with prices. The speeder was sitting to the side on another table that was piled with "junk". I asked if it was for sale and they said yup it all must go, then asked a price for it and he said $10 , :D. They also had 3 boxes off to the side that contained the non Snap On goodies along with the yellow mini Snap On screwdrivers. I wish I had a lot more cash at the time as there was plenty more I wanted but I got the stuff I have an immediate use for.

Scored these very cool vintage Shaw-walker cabinets today for 10 bucks each. They are stackable and very large ( see drill next to them). Great color, just dusty. I think I'm going to clear them. Also have a pat. Date of September 1917!!!

No garage sales but a divorce auction for a former GJ member.
I ran into another member there. Had a fine time talking with him.

So here's how it went:
I bought the thing in the picture for 1000 bucks with a clean title and perfectly running. An 1100gx(?). I figured it was worth 500 in fun and nothing in money, but I stepped up to give the GJ members wife some support.
I'm approached by a guy who offers me 300 bucks profit. I said no. Before the auction is over I have him up to $3,000.
I made $2,000 at the auction.
Instead, I ran it through the auction and gave the $3,000 to the sale.

I also bought two high pressure pellet rifles. Mostly to piddle with but partly to save them for him if he wants to buy them back. An air force talon and an unknown LONG barrel. Both 177.

The rest of the stuff was mostly a lot, maybe $10,000 retail, of unopened or barely used Harbor freight items.

I saw a woman give 60 bucks for three used shovels. Her being a nut was bad enough, but there were three bidders. Two square and a spare, ace hardware midline.

wow, nice haul Bluebomber! You ****, you "stole" those! :D But at least you made a clean getaway!

Dang Blue!! That planer is nice and for that price it was s steal!

Thanks, fellas! I looked around for the planer manual but couldn't find it. I'm sure, as organized and labeled as everything else was, the manual was around at the beginning of the sale. Who knows what happened yesterday in the melee of Day 1. No matter--there's a guy on eBay selling reproductions. It'll be in my mailbox by Friday.

Went to Bisbee over the weekend with GFs family for their pirate weekend bar crawl. Bar crawl never happened due to a 9 hour long monsoon that flooded everything but earlier in the day the GF and I went to all the antique stores in town. Every store I went into I came out with something so I am really happy with my haul.

SK lectrolite 1 1/4" wrench - $10
Zyliss vise still in box - $40
Assorted Wrenches - $15 all together
Spear & Jackson Sheffield saw - $8
An old spofford brace - $8
Hercules hand plane - $5
Miller's falls wood carving set in original box - $24
Cast iron file handle - $4.50
Sears router edge guide and a sears crown top attach-a-lite - $12 for both

Man you guys cleaned up the past few days! Too tired to do many call outs, but CD, that last post, with the Zyliss, those are very cool very handy vises for light work. A buddy had one and used it for detailed wood working, and after seeing his in use I liked it, and a few years ago I scored one NIB for $5 off CL. It's still NIB, but may join my in the house mini workbench...

Have you thought of calling Bonneville Power to see if they're missing a drill press. That may have followed someone home from work.

You know what I mean. :pimpflash

Went to visit family in Montana last week. Found a few ratchets I'd never seen in the wild before
1) what the opening for on the end of the plumb breaker?
2) the chrome alloy ratchet is sk?
3) does the fleet ratchet look wrightish?

Macduf, the Plomb breaker bars often had a square hole in the end so they could be used as a long extension. With the flex head, it allowed a certain amount of misalignment of the drive to the fastener.

The cross hole is to allow the use of a cross-bar drive. This turned the tool into a long reach T-handle with a flexible drive end. It was also useful for hanging the tool on a peg or nail when not in use.

Any details? That thing looks awesome. Home built or a kit? Any more pics?

He had told me he made it.
I've since been told it is a well engineered entirely bolt on kit that is about as hard to put together as a Walmart bicycle.
His wife told me the bike was bought new for the project. Odometer showed 360miles, or I read it wrong. That's all I know. I sat in it ceremoniously, never even turned the wheel, but I know absolutely nothing else about it except it doesn't have a reverse gear and while he owned it for five years or so and couldn't figure one out, I had it ready to build in about 15 seconds.

Went to visit family in Montana last week. Found a few ratchets I'd never seen in the wild before
1) what the opening for on the end of the plumb breaker?
2) the chrome alloy ratchet is sk?
3) does the fleet ratchet look wrightish?

1. I don't think it really serves a purpose. Some old Snappy have it too. Maybe has to do with making the cross hole when manufacturing.

2. Yep, that's SK made, nice find.

3. I believe Penens was the maker of that brand.

Dayton Power Hacksaw from the Flea Market. $20
I'll need to fabricate a new clamp for it though.

Wow. Second power hacksaw posted this week. That's one tool I've never seen in action.

The kids and I spotted a spray-painted sign that said "tool sale" and I found this BC-410 chain vise. It was the one thing he was hesitant to sell but he said if someone gave him a $20 for it, they could have it. I was psyched to hear that.

I ended up leaving with the vise and adjustable for $20.

I've been looking foe a pipe vise of any style, so I felt pretty lucky to be able to get this one for cheap. I'll clean it up and make it so I can mount it to my bench vise.

Park tool box with 75% unused Craftsman tools, as soon as I opened it and saw everything under the tray I knew it was coming home - $45
SK lectrolite 1 1/4" wrench - $10
Zyliss vise still in box - $40
Assorted Wrenches - $15 all together
Spear & Jackson Sheffield saw - $8
An old spofford brace - $8
Hercules hand plane - $5
Miller's falls wood carving set in original box - $24
Cast iron file handle - $4.50
Sears router edge guide and a sears crown top attach-a-lite - $12 for both

Nice scores, love the vintage Craftsman in the original boxes yet!
