That ice cream parlor is GREAT. Sounds loke old news, everything you do is GREAT!!

Slow and easy, glad to hear the full background on the rocket. I think I would look at old comic books to see how they colored their rockets.

Great to hear the story behind your tenant, and many thanks for his service. I'm sure he has some fascinating stories to tell. That makes the story behind some many of his cool treasures that much more incredible.

Great story about your friend and what sounds like quite the collection he has. I can only imagine the fun he had finding things over the years.
The Ice Cream Parlor now will need a old time soda fountain counter or maybe you already have one.
Do you have a hot rod with a Rocket 88 motor to park under that rocket?

Re: Paint scheme for the rocket.

Sentimentally I always like the P-40 tiger or shark mouth paint but that really needs an air inlet to look good. That rocket sure looks like a Swisher Sweet to me.

Apparently I need to check in on this thread more often. I'm away for a while and next thing I know Don is recovering from something and arming himself for a rocket attack on a cruise line!

Don. I hope you recover quickly. Meanwhile, I apparently have some reading to do!

Sorry for taking so long to get back with you but that damn wedding sucked up all my time.

My old man would love that sign. His name is Robert and he's a huge Oldsmobile guy.

I can remember seeing that rocket from the olds as a kid

Don, As usual that sure makes for an interesting story.
And he's a great guy as well

HOLY ****!!! That rocket is so cool  Great story about your friend to go long with it  That's so awesome of you put him up in DaBarn  Can't wait to see whats up your sleeve for the paint job on it...

DaBarn is a very handy building for the back yard and my new friend is tickled to live there. He had a great time at the wedding playing tour guide

Are you suggesting that everything I do is slow and easy???
The parlor is top of mind right now and I'm taking all the dents out of the rocket today.

Great to hear the story behind your tenant, and many thanks for his service. I'm sure he has some fascinating stories to tell. That makes the story behind some many of his cool treasures that much more incredible.

Yes JB it does
And he likes telling them too.

A collection for sure. Yes we went out and found a soda fountain set up and it's in the parlor now.

Great stuff as always Don - hope you are feeling better!

Thanks Jeff
Slow but surely feeling better.

I tried to look up the P-40 tiger but didn't find it

I think the rocket should have a red, white and blue theme .

I'm leaning that direction too

I hope you enjoy the read. You can count on a lot happening around here for sure

A fella has everything when he can say at a party, "I have my own missile you know!"

Thats a good one Terrick

I think maybe a tribute to Evil Knevil? paint it like his snake river jump?:FIREdevil

You mean good old red, white, and blue stripes with stars scattered around??

Don, take care and do try to recover slowly, fully, and well. David

Thanks David
Slow and easy is not my M.O. but I'm working on it.

The wedding went off without a hitch. The family was setting up for 4 days prior to the event. We parked 76 cars over by the barn and had 190 people attend the ceremony and had a sitdown dinner afterwards (Sorry no pictures during the event)
The set up for the wedding out in the grass along side the garage

The dinner set up

From the other end of the garage

The food line was in front of the cars. I put 5 cars out side to make room for every one and every thing they had going on

IMG_0903 by don long, on Flickr

They had a D.J. (using my sound system)
a photo booth.
the ice cream polar worked well for the deserts
and the upper section of the garage in front of the barn and buggy was their dance floor

Sorry I haven't checked in for a while (too long!). You've had quite the adventure with a failed cruise, health emergency, wedding and additions to the BIG PARTY garage. Take care of yourself. We've been busy at the Restored 1930s Auto Shop finishing up the house build and other assorted tasks. Every day's a blessing.

I'm not one who usually compares but after looking at the wedding set-up pics I think my shop would be a good place to host a divorce mediation.

Your place rules, Don!

thanks for joining in Jeff
welcome to the party

That looks like it was wonderful wedding. What a unique setting for a memorable event and I'm sure fun was had by all.

Many of the guests were here for the first time and I was cornered answering all the questions concerning the garage.

:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Don: That Packard neon is a killer!!

Thanks Andy
It's an original

Hi Chris
I know the feeling It's been a while since I checked in on the 30's garage
Thanks for the visit

What an amazing place to have a wedding

BF
We have hosted about 1 a year since we opened up the garage and each one gets harder as we get older

I know, words to describe it would be futile.

Just cool works for me.

I worked on the missile all day today
It had several dents and dings on it but it looks much better tonight

I figured out a good way to move this monster around.

IMG_0987 by don long, on Flickr

I like the looks of it in flight

IMG_0990 by don long, on Flickr

I strapped it down on my work bench to do the body work that it needed

IMG_0991 by don long, on Flickr

The missile is sitting up side down with the body work finished on the bottom and sides (the wings are removed)

IMG_0993 by don long, on Flickr

I am still working on the color scheme.

Or an orange or reddish orange with black lettering "Special Delivery, complements of U.S. Armed Forces."
Maybe include an airbrushed US streaming from the nose.

Hi Guys
I finally had some energy today and got some progress on the Missile and my Corvette.

JB
I'm all about making you happy so look for the day I post a pic. of the missile hanging.

Andy and Shorty
So far I have decided to paint the missile white and accent it with Red stripes with the wings painted blue with white stars
More to follow

Today I got primer on the missile after figuring out how to hang it and hold it steady while I blew the primer on.

IMG_1004 by don long, on Flickr

While letting the primer dry I started playing with the Vette.
I wired in the electric fan and wanted to see if the engine would overheat.
After thinking on it for a few minutes I thought about the grille and how tight the mesh is on the material I want to use. So I popped mounting holes in the grille that I made a few months ago and put it on the car.
I had to pull off the hood to reach in and bolt on the grille. I ran the car for about 10 minutes and all was fine SO I PULLED HER OUT OF THE GARAGE AND DROVE IT AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD Maiden voyage

Car never got over 187 degrees F. Life is good today I had set the hood on while testing.
I really like the way the car looks with the grille in place. It still needs to be buff it to a chrome look (stainless)

Love that grille material Don. It's a very classy look with that tight weave. In the pics it looks like an expensive cloth almost. Very nice.

Yep the rocket going to look nice. That grill is classy and sporty. Great choice. Ummm, maiden voyage? I might have to confiscate the keys due to not having a proper safety drive from a certifiable safety expert.

Thanks rmalkow
When I first saw the polished grille in a 57 chev I knew it would improve the looks of my Vette

What color plans do you have for the missile ? Would look good the same as the Corvette.

Hi Simon

Some combination of Red, White, and blue with white stars on the tail fins

I like your color scheme, sounds kind of comic-bookish, a little Wonder Woman.

It seems as if your work is getting better. How is that possible?

Stop it Andy
You'r makin me Blush

Thanks

I'm I the only one that can't see those pictures? I'd like to comment Don but flicker won't cooperate with me. I'll check back later and see if it changes. It sounds like everyone else likes what you're doing as usual.
