Nice pick up on that Pressteel roller Smoke. It was certainly tempting when it kept popping up on C/L every day or two. I've been way to busy to get into the Portland area lately so was glad to see you pick it up. Ed.

Hopefully you were real busy talking to you know who about the you know what that looks a lot like this [emoji23] hopefully he will be back from his ranch soon [emoji6][emoji51]

Can someone identify this Snap On box? I know it's a mess, but I think it might be a good project if I can get it cheap.dc95ce619d84cab091f0a80aafe12fa8.jpg

For my first post, might as well post my boxes! I'm actually trying to sell them, no idea the value. That's what lead me to the Garage Journal. As well as several other Google searches over the years.
They are early 70's Mac Allied Tools Corp MB65, and MB75.

Thought somebody might be interested in this Simonsen (Chicago) Mechanics Tool Box on CL not terribly far from here. Appears to be military issue; maybe from 50s? Asking $65

Anyone just dying for a large Kennedy-built Craftsman crown-top Machinist Box? I know how much they are universally loved on this thread :spit:
Listed at $140; seems pretty steep. Looks pretty clean tho :dunno:

Picked this Williams S-7A tool box up today. Looking at A-A, it looks like maybe it dates from the late 40's-early 50's. The 1/2" drive set that was in it is almost all Craftsman V. The box is in terrific condition for it's age.

Does anyone know what originally came in this box?

My First Tool Box

While I now have a few snap on boxes this is my favorite. It was well used when I got it in 1980 from the man who taught me much. It banged around a bit in my 1970 Chevelle SS when I drove from Virginia to San Diego and was needed more than once on the trip. The ding in the top left above the little drawer was where I dropped a big block chevy head on it in the early 80's. I have considered restoring it but have not been able to convince myself that would be right.

That box is super cool! Don't restore it. I love the old school speed stickers!

Very nice! It's an AMD (Advertising Metal Display Co) made Craftsman top chest. Those are getting harder and harder to find!

I posted this toolbox on the Thorsen thread but I thought that it would be appropriate here as well. I picked it up on eBay after Tin Medic alerted me to it. Last weekend I picked up some sets at a local garage sale that pretty much matched the vintage.

Paid $100 for this (mostly for the Wilton) but was surprised that the box is 34" wide. Can anybody place the manufacturer/era from this picture?

The Thorsen socket sets are sweet!

Other than the Thorsen decal under the lid, was there anything else to associate the tool box with Thorsen? It was certainly made by Huot, but hard to say if it was sold as a Thorsen box without corroboration. Perhaps John Huot would know? I'd get on their website and send an email to see if he knows the history of any Huot/Thorsen relationship.

Brian,
Thanks for that good information. My '56 Thorsen flyer refers to a hip roof toolbox with a carry tray and a drop front although the image is not an exact match. I have no reason to believe that the box is anything but original based on its patina but I will check further.

Good catch. Somehow I missed the telltale Huot circle on the lid before.

Don, Huot never used that Throsen green color on any of their Huot branded boxes. Usually a blue/gray, or red/blue combo. So, I think it's fair to say the box was made by Huot for Thorsen. Very cool find.

Edit* There's another Thorsen box on eBay now... same box, same color. Set is marked on the side as 'SET NO 4053' Listing is HERE.

Here's an identical Huot box that I found online for comparison.

Thanks Jason. I heard back from Huot and they did indeed supply boxes to Thorsen. Here is their response after I sent pictures of my box.

Subject: RE: New submission from Contact Huot Manufacturing

We made that style into the early 1980’s but again, only in the 60’s for Thorsen.

Thanks!

I would like to thank you both for that wonderful segue into my newest acquisition: A Huot 7 drawer roller. At $65, I couldn't refuse!

It will go nicely with my Huot top chest acquired a couple months ago.

For the first time in their long lives, they were brought together. It was a match made in heaven [emoji1]

It kind of reminds me of my wife and I. I'm rough, dirty, and scarred, and she's all shiny and pretty!

Look on the back of the box for some sort of stamped part numbers. It looks like a Snap-on or Mac tool chest, but I don't have the experience to tell you for certain what it is.

Here's the newest addition thanks to a hookup referral from a semi local GJ'er.. $120 got me the top chest and bottom and a Jensen Whitney metal punch kit, some Xcelite goodies and a leather hole punch set.. boxes look really great--and I have a great slightly aged "twin" set together.. dc4d1b9e9e7ba0bf4ab283640bda00b6.jpg
