I'll be picking up some of those too in the near future, I was wondering what the hex on them was about.

Boss has an old set of 3/8" SK impact sockets that all sit at most around 1" long. Really liked how well they work in tight spots, so these will fit the bill.

Personally I love the snap on handles, but trusty cook wins in all other departments. The snap on heads are way too big and the handles are shorter.

I was actually shocked to see how much longer the 50oz TC was compared to the 40oz SO. I like both, but had I never touched or own a set of snappy's, I'd never know the difference.

I agree, based on price. I have a 24oz Snap On, and a 47oz Trusty Cook. I find the snap on handle to be a little more comfortable, but not worth 3 times the price. Both handles grip equally well when lubed up, unlike my Estwing ball peins. I've almost thrown my Estwings a few times, even when only wet with water. Those got demoted to home use hammers.

When you take price into consideration, Trusty Cook hammers are way better than Snap On.

I agree.. I've wanted a bigger hammer than the largest BP snap on makes at 40oz for the mechanical/machinery maintenance I do. there isn't room for a sledge on equipment out in the field. I want to find a 60oz stubby for massaging things.. but so far these TC hammers are bad *** and I'm ordering a couple more tomorrow for the service truck.

One for me, one for my buddy (always helping me out) and a keeper/trader.

are those kliens? where are those from? I kinda want one... lol

I got this ! Home Depot had this sale on M12 sets this weekend. Buy 3 and get the 4th tool for free. I got the M12 ratchet with mine. Very nice for only $199.

Before this I had been looking at the ratchet alone and with two batteries and the tool it was $150 so basically for $50 more I got 3 more tools!

View media item 74428My first order from Trusty-Cook. I took advantage of their Labor Day sale.
First impressions:
Well made, Fast shipping, Tremendous value. I like the handles on my Snap On hammers much better. Whether or not that handle is worth 2-3x the cost is a personal call.

For the money, you would be hard pressed to beat the TC hammers. And I do feel sorry for the next alloy wheel I come across thats stuck to a hub. :D

Can someone explain to me why mechanic-type hammers need to be so expensive. (be gentile -- I'm a noob)

I can understand paying $40 for a framing hammer that's nicer than your average $20 hammer, but for a mechanic-type hammer that's just used to beat on things, why would anyone be willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a set of Trusty Cook hammers, or even higher cost for a Snap-On set?

The order you see above was about $70, shipped. $70 isn't even a decent dinner for two anymore. That sledge is 10.5lbs. I'm getting too old to be doing Jackie Chan impressions under a vehicle to try to get a wheel off. My ER copay is magnitudes higher than $70. I like quality tools made in America. From what the general consensus on this forum is, these hammers should fit the bill. I also like that representatives from TC are active on this forum.

As for the Snap Ons, yes they are expensive. But their handles are the best in the industry, IMO. When you're really going to town on something to get the job done, that matters. Plus they have a lifetime no hassle warranty. And these kinds of hammers do eventually wear out/break.

I too was apprehensive about paying nearly $100 for a Snap On dead blow hammer. Then I used one.

Hope that helps.

All I can think of is the full snow suits that had the way to tie the mittens to the sleeves so you would not lose them.

Set up some of my laborers with their work gloves that way...:rocker:
Someone complained to Human Resources afterward.
TRY sitting thru that meeting without laughing.:D

Whoa!!...... I've wanted one of those hard handled feeler gauge sets for a couple years now. I had no idea they were still in production until you posted yours today fresh of the truck. Did it come with the wood box like they always have?

They make a separate wrench that is 21x23 but it isn't included in this set.

The 12 piece set has the 21/23, matter of fact it lacks nothing up to 32mm. I tried finding you a link when I saw your post the other day but I couldn't find the same set I bought for under $350. I bought mine from Jen putzier tools for I think $132 shipped. Twas a smoking deal, but right now they don't have any sets in stock.

Buy 3 and you will want to buy 12. They are seriously good hammers for pretty much less than Estwing at Home Depot. A dead blow ball pein, dead blow sledge etc is so much nicer to hit rotors with than some really ball pein or engineers. It goes for any hammering task. I don't really do framing. If I did I would get whatever the nicest offering from Vaughn is! Also I don't have big hands and actually the snap on handle hurts mine. Trusty cook is a little slimmer. Don't miss the two-component thing at all.

I've got "average" hammers, that are used to just beat on things. But when you are doing a lot of beating, a quality dead blow or machinists hammer makes that job a whole lot easier on the body. Same reasoning as buying a nice USA made set of sockets, instead of your Walmart handy man set. Same as paying 40 bucks for a nice pair of in ear headphones, instead of the dollar store variety.

I didn't think a snap on hammer was worth it, till I took the largest they had, and slammed it on a anvil. Didn't feel a thing. Handles are one of the best, and durability is right up there as well.

I was given two trusty cooks in the gj secret santa exchange last year. They are fantastic hammers. I like them because of the one piece construction. Very easy to clean, and pretty durable. Not perfect, but it's a dead blow made of plastic, it isn't going to be perfect.

Jealous.

How much did they set you back?
I gave 187 for them from Amazon. Since there are 4 different sizes, and 2 of each size, I already sold 4 of them to a coworker. 93 dollars for the set of 4 is a pretty great deal in my book.

I really wanted these, but never could find them in-stock online. Finally, those HD E-Mail Alerts paid off and I snapped them up! Super quick shipment, and I can't wait to use them this weekend!
