I think that these used to be around $40. I've seen them as low as $5 by me. I've also seen them at $9.99 and around $14. Price seems to vary by store.

There are two other NWS-sourced Irwins available with a discount right now. There are linesman pliers and some compound cutters.

Edit: These are all available in store, at Lowes.

These are just scum trying to snag deals at Lowes and re-sell on eBay, and probably OP himself posting his own listing. If you want a pair of these pliers go to Lowes and get it for less.

OP is from Ohio, auction lists Texas. doubt someone would fake some info to make a few dollars, if that after fees/shipping/time. These are priced cheaper than most places, but if you are lucky to have Lowes that has some STILL in stock, then yes I'd go that route too. Even then, some Lowes are still at $39.**

this belongs in the ebay thread, as it is not a repeatable deal once the 3 are gone.

When I click on that link they come up for $39.98.

Look at different locations. Some locations are 40 dollars, some locations are 15 bucks, some are 9.88. I'm seeing different things in different areas.

The Ebay sellers most likely saw a bunch of units at either 10 dollars or 15 dollars, bought them all up and are attempting to resell.

I suppose if you only like making a couple dollars at a time, but small potatoes idiots imo.

lowest you would get those for is $8 + tx (after ~20% off from a $10/$50 coupon). After the 13% to eb/PP, $3-4 shipping (at the lowest)

19 - $2.50 (fees) - $3 = $14.50 before gas/time consideration

Well done sir. Pretty much the same math I came to post after reading the first page comments.

Thanks, I jumped on two for $2.25 each at my local Lowe's. Looks handy.

That's an awesome deal! None of my local stores have them on clearance... All list $39.99. I was lucky enough to snag two linesman pliers this morning for $5.39 ea. Keeping one and sold one to a coworker for what I paid.

I dunno...I wouldn't be so quick to call them scum. Those pliers aren't on clearance anywhere within a hundred miles of my location. I gladly paid over clearance and under full price for them.

...And I'd gladly pick one up and sell it to you for what I paid for it assuming I could fine one.

That's just how I was raised. From reading here I gather that Ryan doesn't get the guys who buy all the stuff up and flip it at a profit. Makes it particularly sketchy if they found the deal on this site and then advertise them at 100% markup here as well. :headscrat I dunno... it's just something I wouldn't do.

I agree with you. All for getting great deals for myself, and passing them on to people here, or people I know that need the tools.

Not a fan of those who choose to profit (theres quite a number of them on here too that buy cheap and try to sell at a lower than regular price).

If you don't need it, don't buy it.

I wouldn't flip these, but I won't knock the people who do, either. They're spending the time doing the leg work and taking the risk, and like said above, they're still $40 in many locales (my area included) so $21 is still a good price for many of us.

Buying an item in one market to sell in a different market for a profit is known as "arbitrage".

It is a legitimate investment practice done by many large investment companies. The practice helps to level values across markets. Investors make billions of dollars knowing the market price difference with investment vehicles. It can also apply to any item like tools for instance.

This is really no different than "market pricing" done by Lowes and Menards. These retail stores price items differently in their selling markets. That's why they want you to "select a store" for pricing. I once found a twelve dollar difference in retail price for a step ladder between, I think, Florida and Illinois. Technically, I could buy a hundred ladders in Florida and sell them for a $1200 profit in Illinois. I choose not to do that for a number of reasons.

I hear you man. For me, my thinking lies along the lines of ptgarcia's comment; they're doing the legwork to bring me a product at a price I wouldn't otherwise be able to get. In effect, I'm paying a finders fee...which in this case I'm perfectly fine doing.

On the other hand, if you were my buddy and you said to me "John, would you mind stopping by Lowes and picking up that pair of NWS pliers and mailing them to me?" I'd have no problem doing it for you at cost. Heck, if we're real good buddies, I might even tell you not to worry about the shipping cost; I might even just mail them and tell you to have fun.

But I don't mind paying a finders fee at all.

I found 4 pairs of the ergo needle nose pliers at my local Lowes for $10 each. No idea why I bought them all - but I can't justify keeping more than one pair for myself. If anyone wants a set, let me know - cost, tax, shipping and paypal fees mean about $20 each. PM me if interested. I also got a spare pair of the linesman pliers for about the same price.

At $10, I would buy any of the Germany made NWS/Irwin pliers in a heartbeat. This includes, to my best knowledge, all models with model number 1902411 to 1902421.

Even at $20, these are really good prices. See also this thread:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=261013&highlight=irwin

Because some people (including yours truthfully) saw it coming, I can't resist to quote my post from 07-29-2015 (on the last page, page 6, of the above thread). :shocking:

QUOTE post 07-29-2015

Prices are coming down for at least some of them.

Model 1902413 (Max-Leverage Pliers with PowerSlot, Diagonal Cutting, 8-inch ) is at about $26 on ebay (something must have happened because ebay has been swamped with them in the last days), including free shipping. This is a very decent price in my opinion, but I would expect prices to come down still further. I assume this will end similar to the Knipex pliers at Lowes a year ago - the last ones at Lowes were dirt cheap, as you remember.

Model 1902419 (Long Nose Ergonomic Multi Plier, 8-inch) is currently at 29.98 at my local Lowes. I guess we are going to see some on ebay at even lower prices soon.

These prices are, to my best knowledge, already somewhat lower than what you pay for the original NWS in the US. If you are not in a hurry, I would wait - I expect prices to come down for all other models as well. Maybe someone has some insider information on how these actually sell? At Lowes, they put these NWS models next to China made Irwins which look very similar, with the result that you have a bunch of Irwin pliers at $10-15, and then suddenly two similarly looking pliers at $30-40. I think it would be surprising if this works. It has been a marketing mistake from the beginning, because if Irwin says that these NWS pliers are expensive because they are high quality, then they implicitly say that all their other pliers are ****...But when they don't say anything (like they do right now), people wonder why they should pay 2 or even 3 times more for these pliers that just look as any other Irwin pliers (for most people, I guess). It is somehow sad because I liked the idea that Irwin finally sells higher-quality pliers, but I don't see this persist. If it doesn't work out, Irwin probably is going to say that they tried to sell higher-quality tools, but the public don't want them and prefers cheap China tools, which of course would neglect the flaws in their marketing strategy and communication. Ok, sorry for the long post - just my two cents...."

I went to Lowes last night hoping to find one of these still lingering on the rack but the entire product line are all gone. Instead, the rack was full of the Chinese made Irwin. Bummer.

If you live in West Dallas:

W. Dallas Lowe's
1710 Chalk Hill Rd East
Dallas, TX

IRWIN Vise-Grip 8-in Long Nose Pliers
4 available today
$2.50

IRWIN Vise-Grip Lineman Pliers
2 available today
$2.69

I guess you have to check almost every day, if you are interested. I went to my local Lowes yesterday evening, and the cutters were at 17.99. Today the apparently changed to 9.99 (will check this out on my way home from work - the problem with Lowes is in my experience that sometimes, the website and even their own system show inventory, but it is not in the store (or at least not at the place where it should be).

Why are people scum for doing that?

Retail arbitrage is a legitimate business that can be very profitable.

Scummy would be trying to sell them for $40

There's a guy on eBay selling them for $17.99 shipped right now, I think that's not a bad deal at all for German-Made Irwins...thanks for the original heads-up OP!

Well, the way I see it he probably read about the deal here... checked his Lowes... saw they were on clearance... did zero legwork... and is trying to make profit in the very place he learned of the deal...

4 pairs of the ergo pliers near me at $9.99 ea. Hoping they drop to the $5 range as its a 35 minute drive into the ghetto for them...

They would not be on the rack, they would be in Clearance section IF there are any left.

Not exactly true. Come visit the 3 Lowes I found them in. All were in the pliers section. Each store is different. Some will have a clearance table on occasion, some will leave in-line if there is room. I guess it depends on the shoppers, but I would argue they would sell out of the clearance faster if they are near other like items. But I get that in a slower shopped area of the store, the clearance may linger longer, which then they bring out the good 'ol clearance table

To all, I got some of these pliers on hands and I will sell them off at the price I paid at Lowes ($9.99+8.25% TX taxes) and you have to pay for the shipping cost (~$4.50).

Oaks, PA Lowes had 60 left last Thursday at $9.99. I got three, two to keep. Not sure if they will end up being my go to, but I put one in my electrical bag. As of this morning, showing #45.

Also, Exeter, PA had the wire cutter for $9.00 on Saturday. Still one left. #638073.
