Starting to whittle down some projects that have been sitting in the garage.

Took a single-piston Sanborn pump with 3/4HP motor that had a rusted out tank and transplanted it onto a good tank. Gave it to my neighbor since he needed one to fill tires and blow stuff off and such. Runs super quiet and very smooth. Still need to mount the belt guard on it, but needed an extra set of hands for that to align and mark holes to drill/tap. I had a bigger old CMan pump w/2HP motor, but it was 220v only, which meant I would have had to run a 220v circuit for my neighbor, lol.

Next project has been refurbing a park bench I got for free. The cast iron parts were in excellent shape, but needed to replace the wood & bolts. So for like $4 in lumber, $1.20 in nuts & bolts, and $5 for a quart of exterior paint (that I now have 3/4 left over for another project) it should hopefully be going back together today and will post a picture of the finished bench.

Finished cleaning parts for my 750 rebuild. I still have polishing to do on the side cases but the mechanical bits are ready to be put back together. Just some of the parts:

Let the assembly begin.

Hope everyone else had a good day. Had the Shadow out this morning but will soon be putting the bikes to sleep; cold and rainy now and apparently for the rest of the week.

Cheers,

Bill

Damn, I have the same two type projects sitting on the back burner. Lucky for me the wife has finally stopped asking when I'll get to the park bench. :D

Replaced both front stabilizer links on my 94' Chevy truck. Right side had broken off at the bottom but the left side was still good. Figured I'd replace both for good measure.

They were totally rusted solid, so I whipped out the Sawz-All and had the old ones cut off posthaste. Installed the new ones and took the truck out for test spin. :3gears:

Handles much better in the curves now. :D

Pulled the belt off the Explorer and started it up to make sure the noise isn't coming from an accessory.
It wasn't.
Getting a pretty good clacking noise from my 2007 4.6 3V. Mostly from the right bank. Looking like a cam phaser or timing chain issue. But it does it at start up which generally isn't a phaser issue. Thinking I may have a tensioner issue - that is the last side to get the oil.

99% done with one wall... I can't put the top board in until the ceiling is finished.. I also successfully installed (safely) my first gas appliance.. sure is nice with warmth in the attached garage. The heater is a 30,000 but (advertised) Dyna-Glo infrared unit. Experienced excellent customer service even when getting it fired up.
....The lady will certainly enjoy the warm cars.. it's supposed to get to 25 degrees tonight--winter is coming..

So I make birdhouses. Usually what I do is get photos of barns and make a custom birdhouse to match. Recently I made a Snap-on truck birdhouse for my driver who was retiring after 40+ years. I thought a Binford truck would be fun, so I used my pattern and got this one. I put on SS stripes and have two compartments inside. I'm not all the way done with painting, but think it turned out great!

Oil change day. Did my Dakota, the mower, snow blower, and leaf blower. Leaf blower got a carb rebuild kit, too. Dakota got U joints and ball joints greased. Finished cutting and installing a couple of shelves in the cabinet I built last year. Then took my 37 out for a last joy ride before winter.

Finally tore into the valve body, last major component of my 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser transmission rebuild before I start reassembling stuff into the case.

That sure is a lot of parts..... and pieces.... my problem is I always have a few of those left over after a job like that! I don’t know why they leave extra pieces in there!

I rebuilt my first engine at age 15, Been in the commercial HVAC sector since 77'. I'm handy with my hands.

Every time I even think of tearing into an auto ******, I experience a pucker factor so intense it's indescribable..

Oh, there's pucker.

I'm moving really slowly on it. I also have an ace in the hole. My friend is a gear head, former pro wrench, and rebuilds transmissions for fun. Literally. His words, "some people do puzzles, I do transmissions..."

He's consulted a few times already, helped get the rotating assemblies out of the case, and when I get the valve body back together, I'll call him to see when he can help me put all the parts back into the case correctly.

I hear you. Though, one of my biggest worries is that I'll lose one of these springs or a check ball on the floor.

I always had a magnetic tray on my trans bench and a clean empty metal drain pan with a magnet in it under the bench for kind of a catch all but it was where anything I was replacing, gasket, seal, snap ring etc. went. and if any new anything was lost the old one was in the pan..

You are going to love your ventless!
I added a oscillating fan above my furnace and it really helps in the corners.
Wire the fan to a thermostat to start when it gets close to 80F near the fan..simple and effective!

Yah, that sounds like a good idea on a magnet tray.

True, I also don't throw away old parts until after reassembly and some road time. Already saved me from an escaped new u-joint snap ring and a couple of clutch steels I came up short on this project.

But I'm not replacing any hard parts in the valve body. I'm not sure who would be able to find me a replacement spring, even with the specs that I have. Maybe the guy selling me my torque converter. Anyway, I'll be careful, use magnets, and hopefully that conversation will never happen.

Saturday I didn't even step foot in my shop. My son wanted to go shooting and I hadn't even had time to shoot my new carry pistol so we went to the local outdoor range and I shot my new Glock model 26 and put some rounds through my Browning .308 that I hadn't shot in about 15 years and finally fired our .223 AR that I took in trade four years ago and had never fired. Had a great time even though I kept wishing I was in the shop.

When I arrived home the wife informed me that we were going to shop for a bed for the spare bedroom. Oh well, could have been a worse Saturday I guess.

Yesterday I took a few hours and pressure washed my Duramax engine bay and undercarriage. Now that I can park it in my garage I could finally clean it and give her a good detailing. She won't know how to act being able to be parked inside now.:bounce:

So far I stopped at my garage this morning before work (like I usually do) and kept sorting some nuts/bolts/washers that over time have been tossed into my "temporary" container.

Going there at lunch to figure out how much to reduce the depth of some shelving on one wall. Bought my GF a 1950 Chevy Styline and we are going to get it into the garage and start tearing it apart.

Gotta paint the last coat on a rolling work table first (just some trim paint). Installed the stainless steel top on Friday after work.

Snow on the ground here so it's time for winter projects.

After avoiding the garage for the last month or so. I organized our shelves and cleaned up the open bay. I can now park my car in the garage. I call this a large victory. Got rid of a bunch of junk in the process. I can almost move and work all the way around my Studebaker.

The bench actually didn't take that much effort, mostly just letting paint dry. The 1x3's were the same dimension as the original boards, just had the cut the 8' in half and sand. Also routed a nice edge on the front board & very top one.
