Appreciate your .02 cents Rubberrodder

I don't have that much wall space for it though.

I've been working on the front wall of the ice cream parlor this week and it's coming along. will be painting the outside tomorrow. The wains coat is up and waiting on the trim pieces to be painted and hung.
We have a luncheon planned for a group of guys coming back from sema on their way back to Australia on Tuesday so I'm trying to finish the parlor for them.
Wish me luck

Thanks guys

Don

Don: i hope you find some cool stuff pickin that you can't find in your friend's container. i know you probably don't NEED ANYTHING, but isn't the HUNT the fun part?

the ICE CREAM PARLOR's name could just be DON'S?

I like the progress and the color choices too.

cheers

Good luck picking Don. I agree with Drives that sometimes the hunt is the fun part. I went to a new to me flea market today and found a couple gems myself. So I can't wait to see what goodies you've discovered.

Don,
It was great getting to catch up with all of your happenings today and even better to know you didn't get any damage from the fires and your health is on the upswing still. If you make it to Herb's in Kansas and Andy's in Oklahoma I hope I can persuade you 15 minutes out to come for a visit as well. I don't have as much to look at but would love to meet you and show you around the area.

The hunt is the best part of pickin for sure.
You are right there is still plenty of stuff to uncover in the containers.

I do like swap meets. Never been to a flee market. Word of mouth is still the best.

Here are a few new things to hit the party garage

1st an old 1/4" drive ratchet

2017-11-07 15.35.54 by don long, on Flickr

2017-11-07 15.36.11 by don long, on Flickr

Made in the U.S.A. and what makes it unique is it is solid brass

2017-11-07 15.36.25 by don long, on Flickr

Next I picked up this old pump

2017-10-24 17.52.14 by don long, on Flickr

And what I like about it is the nozzle

2017-10-24 17.54.17 by don long, on Flickr

And the badging is very nice this will clean up great

2017-10-24 17.55.16 by don long, on Flickr

I didn't take a pic yet but I also picked up 2 tire spreaders . One manual and the other hydraulic

You found some real nice stuff Don. That pump is very interesting. Never seen one quite like that. Did you get any history on it?

No I didn't. The guy I bought it from is a B I G hit and miss collector. He has units that weigh over a ton and he goes hunting for them in alaska every year so I assumed it might have come from there. However, When I brought it home and showed it to my friend Pat (in the barn) and told him where I got it he laughed and said he thinks it was his and the guy I got it from was a friend of his (Small world)

I have restored 2 others similar pumps

I suspect that Berylco ratchet is actually made of Beryllium copper, they're used in hazardous environments where you want non-sparking tools. It can be dangerous material if you grind on it and make any dust, so be careful when cleaning it up.

Thank you Stuart.
I figured it to be beryllium and understand it is toxic if inhaled.
Thanks for your concern I'll be careful I have several berylco tools that I'd like to shine up a bit.

I grew up playing in the scrap pit that was a former beryllium factory. It was across the street from our house. We had some old buckets with the companies label on it.

...and I turned out just fine. :eyecrazy::willy_nil

Nice finds. Would the pump be a first generation gas pump, precursor to glass top gravity pumps?

Yes Shorty

I do believe that is right. It will be a fun project.

that's good to know. I will still be taking precautions while grinding and polishing these tools.

Hi Don and Ann,
It was great to catch up the other day and your hospitality (as always) blew the Aussies away. Combine that with your amazing collection of everything automotive-well they had a blast.
We cannot thank you enough for putting on such a wonderful day.
Look forward to our next visit to you.
I am having difficulty with attaching some photos on here so I will email and message you with them for you to load up.
Cheers David and Vanley

Don: looks like you found a few goodies while PICKING and I'd be willing to bet quite a bit they will look better in the near future after you give it the DL treatment.

did you get the walls done on the ice cream parlor or are they still needing a few trim pieces? looks like the booths and all the signs are in place and looking mighty good.

i love the sign just above your head saying IN GOD WE TRUST and ALL OTHERS MUST PAY CASH. :D

looks like you had fun with Dave's group and from what i remember he stops by often for a guy that lives DOWN UNDER.

i bet that your weather is pretty nice now after that hot streak a couple weeks ago cause it's snowed up here a couple days and been 40's and raining the last few days.

cheers

PS: not sure if the last poster is a spammer or if he just picked your thread for his first post?

I love the new items you acquired in your recent pick, the gas pump is sweet! Love the old brass ratchet and the jack has a awesome look to it! Never seen one quite like that before? Can't wait to see it done with the Don Long touch on it...

Sorry Barron
The ice cream parlor is not finished yet because I got tired of working on it. I needed a break but will be back on it tomorrow.
PS
You must make reservations well in advance and get in line with others Who have the same idea.

Great finds!

I wonder if the Globe jack was made by the same company which made the Globe floor lifts?

Thanks Andy

I haven't searched out any history on the jack yet.

Hi David
I always enjoy your visits and the friends you bring over. Now that you are retired we must find another good reason to have you come out and visit.
Thank you for posting up some pic,s I was too busy to think to take any. It's fun to see what shots you post. (shows me what you liked )

Well done, Don and Ann. Who better to represent American hospitality.

Toolfool

Thoughts like that could go to my head. Thanks so much for the compliment
I'll share it with Ann

We put the furniture back into the parlor for the Aussie visit but I still have work to do there. I'll take a shot after tomorrows progress

i love the sign just above your head saying IN GOD WE TRUST and ALL OTHERS MUST PAY CASH. :D

I like it too. I don't remember where I picked it up.

No name for the parlor yet but it's not finished either and my mind is trying to move over to other projects like that little jack I just grabbed.

I tried something new this weekend
My son invited me to ride shotgun with him on a Jeep run.
He and a few of his friends got together out in Parker Az. to enjoy the desert

Great thread and updates Don, as always.

I like the new jack you found.

Looking forward to its recovery process.

This really made me smile, now I know where the more modern Gilbarco company name came from.

And the badging is very nice this will clean up great

Hopefully the list for moving in will be a bit shorter once the Western Town is built, im sure some of the people in line need to go straight in the jailhouse.. talking of which.. sorry to ask, but a friend of mine wants to know, will there be a house of ill repute?

DON: while i understand the ADRENALIN RUSH of some things I still don't get putting your nice rig or maybe life in danger driving on some of the stuff some of the guys do.

i'm very happy you had a good time and that you got to spend some quality time with your son.

your standards are way higher than most of ours so whatever you decide to do to spiff things up is your call and as always if you might need any help or advice just ASK.

take care and hope your weather isn't 30mph winds and sideways rain like mine has been most of the day.

Looks like an awesome time was had!!!

I was heavy into the street rod and drag racing scene until I started playing with Jeeps years ago. Now I can't get enough Jeeping.

We have a group of RVers that we travel with around most of the western U.S. and find Jeep trails wherever possible and make the best of them.:) We are about the only ones still working full-time as most of them are retired but we try to meet up with them as much as we can throughout the year. I believe many are in or will be in the Parker area for the remainder of the year until the next rally in QZ in late January/early February.

You may be hooked now.;)
