Cleaned up garage some. Pulled the tape off this Athol 626 vise I'm working on and put paste-wax on the bare metal bits. Did the white lettering too... Slowly getting it done...

I started the obsessive restoration of an old door, lol. I don't know why I am spending so much time on this. I am starting to doubt my sanity.

I needed an old door for my house, and a guy had one on craigslist. He just happened to be renovating a house that happened to be within walking distance of my house. The pattern matches my existing doors. It'd be kinda neat if it was from the same builder (circa 1860). Anyhow, I paid $10 for it. It had the hinges, knobs, lock and all that, which was well worth the $10, and I considered the door to be a throw-in (I had to justifty buying the beat-up thing, lol). The door has holes all over it from towel bars, deep dog scratches, and one side is painted. I didn't take a before picture, all I have is the picture the guy texted me of it sitting in the house-rubble

I have been sanding this thing for hours trying to get it back in presentable shape. I plan on staining it to match my staircase. I'm still not done, but I'm getting there:

Funny thing too- I am glad the guy lived close to home. I drove the trusty old astro over to pick the door up. When I went to load it into the back, the back door handle on my van broke and the doors wouldn't open (all you Astro owners know about the rear-door-handle-of-death situation). So I had to slide it in the side door and drive home with it hanging out the side of my van, lol.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Today was slow. So I limited it to showing my old Cole Mfg. vise some love and prepping my 2006 chevy Colorado for a its new-ish 5.3L.

So I changed gears and decided to work on cleaning up a tether car I found at an auction. Anyone here know anything about these crazy things?! I've never ran one and don't really know what I'm getting myself in to lol.

Is that like the string controlled airplanes from the 50's 60's that flew in circles? (who thought that was a good ides? "Lets get you dizzy flying this thing, so you can crash it"...)?

At least the car stays on the ground. My brothers first flight he took off, went straight up and over and nose dived straight into the ground... No time to get dizzy there!

These (from what I have seen) had a cable that "tethered" them to a steel pole in the ground. It has a small nitro motor on it. But I have no clue if its all there or what condition it's in. Here is a video of one that looks mean. Imagine if that tether car suddenly became an "untethered" car!!

Reinstalled my front seats in the Jeep last night after picking them up from the upholstery shop on my lunch hour then loaded the couches from our coach up on my trailer to bring to the upholstery shop today.

I then dug through my metal rack and found the steel I needed for my next project.

I used to fly U-Control combat. Basically a flying wing, cheap and easy to build, with a Cox .049 motor. Two people back to back. You have a 3' crepe paper tail and the shortest one loses, which means a lot of collisions.

swingpress....had the danny ongiass version in the 70,s. you ran on a string ....straight...with a ''y'' at the end to stop it. fast as **** as i remember. we got tired of the string and just let it loose between the curbs...great action but didnt last long.also had the baja bug...set the front wheels....left,right or straight and let her rip.not fast but it would climb stuff. no batteries, servos, esc,or transmitters just really flamable liquid !!!!!good fun.

Opened the garage door and drove my snowmobile inside.

There's enough snow around here now and I plan on going riding this weekend so I will grease it up and change the chaincase oil.

Should be good to go after that - I took it for a quick cruise at lunch and it runs just as good as ever.

Finally my wife and I bought a house and have been to busy working on it to document the process but the garage was a mess and a lot of work was done removing old cabinets covering holes in the walls, removing the popcorn ceiling on 1/4 of the garage and pairing the place so I have a blank canvas to start with. Happy to say we are out of the apartment and all my stuff has now landed in the garage. Now the organizing begins.

Sweet! It’s awesome setting up your own space... I wish I knew about this forum 12 years ago when I started setting mine up!

Today's projects,

Blew out the last of the garden hoses to be put away, did some straightening up and built this:
969ffa63d8e5c2aaca1a2ec6c7cfd038.jpg

It's a step stool from the Family Handyman site... Adjusted for the materials I had on hand. It's 18×14 and about 24" high or so. The top can either be a stair tread or flip down for a stool seat. I'm no carpenter by any means, but it supports my weight and feels solid enough, despite the unlevel concrete floor (checked it ontop of one of the sewing tables which is fairly true and even).
da5320c116bc8c9a8da1cf8e27179795.jpg

Sorry about the crappy cell pic, the piano hinge that holds the top together is square and true, but the lighting/camera makes it look like it could be crooked. I'm fairly happy with how it came out, save for the slight lift that the hinged section experiences due to the screws not quite set as deep as I'd like. I used some #8-3/4" screws that I had laying around. the frame holds the weight, the hinge is just meant to be functional.

I went to the firing range yesterday so I spent time in the garage today cleaning and oiling my pocket carry and my new M&P Shield 9. I’ve had the Shield for several months but this was my first time shooting it. I’m really impressed with my newest handgun.

I spent a few hours on the shop laptop looking for parts or ideas for an AC bracket for a Cummins 4bta. I think I may have found what I am looking for, maybe.
The other things I was looking for, on line, and may have found, is a way to change the tie-rod and draglink to better fit our application.
There was a strong wind all day with heavy rain. While not all that cool in the shop, the furnace struggled to maintain the temperature in the shop to 15C.
I had to go outside the shop and pick-up more garbage from the renters next door. They overload the city garbage and yard waste cans. The city truck operator was refusing to pickup the yard waste because it was full of junk. So the AH neighbour put some of their garbage in our can. They lowered the level of garbage in the green yard waste can, added fresh cut green yard waste to the top to disguise the contents. It worked this time.

Cleaned! I have family coming tomorrow for Thanksgiving and the garage always seems like it's the gathering spot before and after dinner. So, everything gets stacked outta the way! I need to build an addition with a wood stove as the new gathering spot. Cleaning up is an *** pain!

Oh wow. Does that bring back a ton of memories. My dad & I used to fly u-control all the time. He was an ace back when that was all the rage (60's). Designed/built our own planes - never buy a kit. I got pretty good but never as good as him. Coolest plane was a flying wing (combat plane) - had to hand launch since there was no landing gear.

Had a couple of tether cars and also built an air boat - like the everglades.

Such good, good memories. Thanks for that.

No, no, no, no.... You need to lay some tables out in the middle with some un-finished projects... If they have time to just stand around out there they have time to work on something.... :bounce: :willy_nil

It's winter hunting season in the garage for those little furry buggers that like to chew up all your valuables and make nests. So the traps are out and have bagged 2 of them already.

That's a cool little step stool!
Thanks! It's a cool little plan (most anything found on the Family Handyman site is usually). Best part was that it's essentially free, given that I could customize it to the stock I had on hand. I only wish it fit into the hole I had planned for it (it's too deep, which unfortunately is unavoidable). I will fit it in when I get around to renoing and readjusting that back room.

Now there is an idea!! I have a few GM engine blocks and rotating assemblies I could leave out lol. At least all the guys in the family would think it was cool to do nothing but eat drink and swap engines into vehicles all day!!

Put a stereo in my Father in Laws truck. He asked me a year ago to check it because he thought a fuse was bad. I have been putting it off because he gets on my nerves most of the time LOL. Well I was already dirty from completing another task and he was visiting, so I told him to pull it into the garage. After some checking, found out the radio itself was bad, and someone had done quite a number on the audio wiring harness. I had an old cd player sitting in my shed I took out of a used truck I had bought, so I put it in there for him after cutting out a bunch of unnecessary wires and repairing the factory harness. Now I don't have to hear him asking about that **** anymore LOL

You just gave me an awesome idea, but I don't personally have the room for it.

An electrically-motorized v8 with cutaway sections so you can watch the rotating assemblies do their thing....right in the middle of the garage between bays.

Hey, I can dream...
