Wilton vises still have the 5 year warranty, right? so a "lifetime" for them is 5 years, and most any lube will do that...

As to the "Sealed Environment" I disagree; there is still oxygen/air in there, as well as humidity, and while it keeps out most crud, even crud gets inside, so its not truly sealed and the grease will still harden and fail over time...

You're right. A few years ago, in a shop that I worked at, I had a 6" Bullet that was 35 years old at the time. After a little time of fighting it, I took it all apart and saw how nasty it was with the lethal combination of old grease and pounds of shop dust. After cleaning & re-lubing it, it worked like new.

Thanks guys. It was a fun morning. Does anyone know about when this style Parker was made? I posted it a few days back.

I cant seem to get to page 342 without scrolling for an hour. Can anybody else pull this page up quick? The google books has a glitchy layout today :dunno:

I got to pg 342, and it's Injectors?

I also cleared the search, searched for "Parker" and got nothing... :dunno:

ALL: Great posts about the LIFETIME GREASE and the crud, air and stuff getting inside those Wilton bullet slides. probably why i recommend throwing a rag on any vise's slide while cutting, sanding or working on something in your vise's jaws especially on the open screw vises.

007: your turn to check your PM.

Got it - Thanks Get!

Bcom, if you go to Get's link and "clear search" you can use the slider on the right to easily scroll...

This is the ad:

I'm not seeing the classic Parker plate on the vise super posted? I was thinking the vise might be much earlier, but the mod. No. matches... :dunno:

Also, the screw head is not the early round ball...

ED: still wondering if that BIG WILTON caused you any pain moving that huge vise around or is that about the normal size vise you work on now?

I love this line you posted and it's SOOOO TRUE.

Some vises, like most people, just don't have what it takes to go around naked.:thumbup:

BCom: while I agree that your BRAND NEW Wilton purchase was a decent deal i see several vises on your shelf that were easily as good of a vise to use or did you just really want a DEAD BLOW HAMMER and a brand new vise?

Drives--- I know I got much better vises on the shelf. It was a compulsive buy. I didnt need it but the low price said I did. I can't explain it. I just buy vises on a whim. I need HELP!:eyecrazy:

Thanks GET. I don't believe this is the original main screw. It was drilled from underneath and held with a collar there. The nose looks just like my Morgan 150. Behind the nose is a bunch of washers to take up the space.

When I have time to get in the garage I will see if my parker screw from another vise fits.
Funny thing is this isn't my only parker with wrong screw / handle. If you look behind the collar the previous owner made a second collar as a spacer. I have another one with a good screw / handle but has a no rear jaw. If the price is right I buy them for parts.

I was wondering how the spindle was held in ?
I just happen to have a Parker Trojan apart and it has the traditional slide opening for a screw collar. It also has a shelf above that looks big enough to accommodate a traditional Parker collar. It has plain non replaceable jaws and the older pear shaped spindle knob.

I've been far too busy to keep up with this thread lately, but I did pick up a little something today.....

8" jaw Iron City leg vise that weighs 175lbs and is 43.5" tall. The jaws line up beautifully, and it really looks like it wasn't used much at all. I already have a 7.25" jaw leg vise so I think this one is going on eBay.

Sorry for the rotated pics....for some reason this forum isn't running the plugin to correct for photos taken on smart phones.

You need a collar with a set screw that will fit your spindle shaft. It locks on in that slot in the slide you can see in your pic. I made one out of half a love joy coupling for a recent project. Ed.

I picked up this Wilton universal vise over the weekend. It was sitting on the floor of a basement for a long time and was hoping for just light surface rust.
I bought it unopened for $40 and was pleased that the rust was minimal.

Anybody else see something wrong with this? I've been waiting for someone to put a vise on eBay with the repop decals that are floating around, and I think this is the first one.

The paint color is wrong. There is paint on the anvil, including a round blob that is an obvious splatter/drip, that just happens to match the rest of the vise. The decals are waaaaay too wide for a 2.5" vise. Anybody have a pic of a 2.5" with factory decals? The decal on a 2" is half that size.

Anybody think I'm totally wrong here?

Yes the color is way off and on my NOS baby without decals the anvil is painted. If all baby bullet anvils were painted, one like that with most paint intact should have some left. But I cant be sure on the ebay one. Looks well aged.

Gman, I have a baby exactly like the one on eBay, though decals and paint in worse shape. I can't explain the color but I do think it is original. As you can see, mine is from Nov. 1950, so that does seem to mesh with/be close to the eBay 1953 date. No strong opinions ordefinitive proof, just another data point.d6c02ef8616e19f54017e456b8bb9f0a.jpgd338d460a79e72445812bc9d58dc75fa.jpg

Picked up this Snapon vise yesterday. Seems to be in excellent shape. No dents in the handle, jaws look new and no dents in the end cap. However it didn't come with a swivel base so i poached a base off one of my parts vises and now she's complete :)

Excellent score, looks really in good shape, those jaw inserts apart from the patina look like new and never used.

In photos, I also see the poor guy who lost his base (like a King losing his throne) to the Snap-On (life is tough you know :))

The guy I got it from said he had the vise apart to clean it and he accidentally dropped the base on the floor and broke a foot off of it. Said he tried to braze the foot back on and it wasnt working so he sold me the vise for cheap. :willy_nil

Man the overspray on these Snapon vises is atrocious! Paint on the main jaws and pipe jaws and there isn't even a crisp paint line on the slide!:willy_nil

Heres a pic off the Snapon website of a brand new Snapon vise. Look at the overspray on the jaws and other areas. Guess Snapon dont give three shits about quality paint job:dunno:

Here you go Bcom. If you want new Snapon badges for it they are a whopping $1.75 each.

Mike, there are 2 lube holes in the sliding jaw, one at each end. The lower hole in the casting is for the typical Reed screw adjustment lock screw.

Nice. I bought a pair also so I have them when I need them. I had a thought that you were already "in the know" on those. I should have known that if you have a donor parts vise just laying around you probably had or knew how to get new badges.

It's not overspray. They simply don't mask off the side of the jaw towers, or jaws...that means they're expecting to paint those areas. Overspray is a mistake that wasn't planned on from the start.

This guy is emphatic that this Reed 106 is not broken. Color me not convinced.

Chrisnazzy--- the badge thats on the vise is in "ok" shape. They tend to wrinkle up badly and fall off. This vises badge is wrinkled up a little bit.The last Snapon vise I bought, the owner took the badges off the vise and stuck them to his wall since they were in such bad shape. I'm gonna leave the vise as is. Ill probably degrease the base and may just leave a primer color on the base so a perspective buyer can repaint the base since matching the Snapon RED may be more trouble than its worth for me. If the buyer mentions the wrinkly badge, I'll tell them ive hot a new one here but I dont want to give up a badge if i dont have too. Any clue what off shelf paint matches Snapon Red?

You're fighting a losing battle trying to convince him otherwise. Too many people seem to wear rose tinted specs when they're describing condition. Seen good (condition|working order) used way too many times where it's not applicable, even by some who know better.

...

Just a quick note on those creamy white, creamy yellow, and and creamy mint colors from the 1950s: I always am cautious about them because much of the paint of that era has asbestos in it. Many of the house demos/remodelings I've been around with those shades of paint from that area were confirmed to have asbestos.

Does anyone care to estimate what a VERY nice original faded paint Paramo No.6 would be worth ?

It's got faded original blue paint in areas, and has that Japan ing look that DIF often refers to....kinda smooth and natural semi gloss black from years of wipedowns. Original jaws are awesome....fitment,alignments, smooth tight. Only glitch is the original handle has a extremely minor bend on one end, maybe 3/16" off center. It's an original swivel base model, and the internal support ring has a hairline fracture along one threaded hole. A few members said it shouldn't affect operation.
No repairs,damage,flaws.....super super clean, and obviously, HEAVY.

Just a ballpark minimal. I know anything is worth what the person who desires it the most is willing to pay, but what is too low ?

TIA,
Shawn

You don't see many 8" Yosts, Joe Striper.---You scored big there.---Don't know if Yost just didn't make many 8 inchers, or if most of them are pick-up bumpers and tank turrets now.:dunno:
