What did you do "IN" your garage today?

The brass item in the foreground is a brass space pen (the bullet model). Available on amazon for about $17. It works pretty well, but I will be replacing the ink cartridge with a finer tip than what it came with, when the time comes. The main thing I like about it is that it's small enough to disappear in my pocket, and I always have a pen on me now.

Aww geez, I see I spelled "cold", when I meant to spell "gold"...but you figured it out anyway. I have the same type of pen, I've had it since my teens, I didn't know they were still making them. Thanks for the link.

Got my gas valve in the mail yesterday but it was a little to cold to go out and put it back in so I came home from work today a little early and to do the install. I got it put in and fired up the furnace without a hitch. the shop was toasty after about 15 minutes.

I would think all the cases would be made by the same company and sold to the Chap Stick/Burt's bees companies...

I put my Can-am on jack stands and loaded the wheels and new tires in the truck to have them mounted in the morning.. thankfully I have a heated garage.. 7 outside and a balmy 65 in the garage..

Also got all my riding gear packed up for my trip next weekend.

I would think all the cases would be made by the same company and sold to the Chap Stick/Burt's bees companies...

The burts bees cap fit inside the copper cap as-is. I didn't trim any part of the plastic case. Not sure about other brands - didn't have them on-hand.

I did end up with a slight inside lip on the copper tube, but I ground it off with a dremel. Some of the tubes were dinged and bent, especially on the ends, in the store, so look for a good one when buying.

It was snowing like a son of a gun out there for the second or third day in a row (not entirely sure anymore, all I know is we have close to two feet on the ground and drifts in excess of five). Had to bring the ATV into the shop to figure out why the gear selector decided to freewheel on me while I was getting ready to do another round of plowing (it's really hard to plow driveways when you can only drive in reverse).

Brought it into the shop, let the snow thaw out a bit and started taking it apart. the little aluminum lever that shifts the gear selector on the transmission is pretty worn out, but so is the steel splined shaft that it fits over. I would have expected it to hold up a little better than it has, but the bike is 15 years old I guess. sandwiched the lever in between two washers (one of which fit over the spline to push it out a ways), got the teeth to engage each other and snugged 'er down. I'll be carrying a couple wrenches with me tomorrow in case I need to do any adjustments while out plowing.

I rented a scissor lift from Sunbelt Rentals for the upcoming week and successfully got my 175k BTU heater hung up without smooshing myself.. I made some angled hangers out of grade-8 bolts that I cut the heads off of, threaded the new “end” and put a gentle bend in the shafts with my hydraulic press. All because I mis-planned my layout and didn’t think about the angled mounting of the Uni-Strut on the ceiling and the obvious angle of the spring but and need for the threaded rod to hang downward rather than at an angle.. (duh...) It worked quite well and first time with Uni-Strut..



The heater is angled almost perfectly at the opposite corner of the barn and is sitting nice and level.. I’m going to run gas pipe and try my hand at bending up some conduit for a dedicated power outlet.

I’m trying to do as much as I can because all of the estimates I’ve had so far are ridiculous to have had a heater (new option) installed or even just this lightly used heater hooked up and tested..

Pulled the drain plug on the GMC to let it drain, in Dad's winter shop in AZ.

Waiting on braided stainless DOT legal brake hoses (was changing pads, found a leaking caliper, .... "opportunity to upgrade" ).

Might get a few other things done while it's in there.

My son helped me unload a 9 drawer cabinet and bring it in the shop. I bought the cabinet yesterday from a Craigslist seller.
We cut down a four caster cart, also from Craigslist, and pop-riveted the modified base to the bottom of the cabinet. It works and only took 30 minutes.

Getting setup to replace my 7" round headlights with halogens with the Halo LED DRL's

The wiring got sort of complicated as I want the DRLs on when running, and Off if the highs or lows are on...

So one relay will be tied to the light wires,via diodes as a cutoff, and feed the DRL LED's, (normally on) and that relay is fed from the first relay that has a cut off switch. I'm replacing my manual On/Off for my backup lights with a three position On-Off-On switch. So I can have either the backup light on or the DRL's, or neither...

I almost shorted the highs and lows before realizing I needed diodes to prevent that... This is the bench made harness, I ran the wire for the switch, but didn't want to be fiddling with this stuff at the car, so I did it on the bench, with a couple of trips out to measure wire lengths...

I bought and installed segmented "V" belt on my KELLER power hack saw. I like this "V" belt and I have it on all of my machinery.

I put one of those belts on my tablesaw (Powermatic 64A). Everytime I started up the saw, the belt jumped off the pulleys. Guess the belt is not compatible with the stock pulleys

Let me guess: Gravity tensioner? is the arbor tight? That can cause the motor to jump and toss the belt...

I'm guessing that was more than an educated guess! [emoji23] Yep, '03 Sportsman 500 HO. The parts diagrams for the transmission and gear selector linkages are vexing me. The gear selector I have on mine looks nothing like the one that is supposed to be on the Sportsman, and 100% like the one that is on the Magnum 500 4x4s. Transmission, I believe, is correct for a Sportsman, but the unit that bolts onto the right hand side of the transmission (where the selector stripped out) doesn't show up very obviously in the diagrams for the Sportsman.

I'm wondering if there was some kind of crossover of parts that is not apparent online?

Unmounted the transmission with a buddy and flipped my backwards-mounted flex plate around on the Land Cruiser. Re-mounted the transmission and things fit and move as they should now, flex plate is bolted up to the torque converter, and I'm ready to finish putting the truck back together!

Just finished breakfast, going to turn on the heater out there and remove the nails and cut into more manageable lengths and stack in the corner. Then when the sawdust settles maybe I can finally get around to cleaning up my garage!

Been working on bringing an old Alkota heated pressure washer back to life. Wanted one for years but could never spend the $$$$ on one. We needed to rent one this week to wash all our snow equipment from the last storm, was looking at $200+ to rent one for a couple days, hopped on craigslist and found this one. Luckily theres a pressure washer store 6 minutes up the road from one of our friends shop we use in the winter thats heated with a wash bay. $220 for the unit, $150 for a new hose/gun/wand, and another $100ish for a fuel filter, pump oil, burner nozzle, insulation, fuel lines, and a hose from the pump to the coil. Thing works like a champ, just gotta get a thermostat for it as of right now its pushing steam in about 30 seconds and no heat control. Pump is 220v 5hp 1500psi at 5gpm, even just with cold water its an animal for washing vehicles/equipment. And being electric/kerosene i can run it inside and not have to worry about fumes.


Next on the list is adding a thermostat, tearing into the pump to find a small water leak, and putting some wheels on it so it can be moved easily. Weighs 600lb's full of fuel and water, not designed to be rolled around a shop.

We might get up to 40 degrees this week so the daily drivers will get washed and sprayed as well.

This was from back in October... actually just finished putting new tires on today.. went with Maxxis Bighorn originals.. heading out for a trip next weekend. It’s a 2010 650 XTP.. probably get a SxS in a year or 2 when I feel my oldest is ready for a day in the woods
