I had the same problem and used the same solution but my photos showed up sideways. Not sure how to fix that

-Jay

That's unrelated to the recent uploading issues... If you take pics on your phone (and some standalone cameras do this too), your phone's camera software just saves a little tag inside the file to say 'this end up' if it was taken at an angle. Then when you copy/upload them to other places/devices, some other places/devices don't pay attention to that tag and display them in the original orientation instead (i.e. sideways). To prevent that, you have to manually permanently rotate the image (moving the pixels around instead of just adding a 'this end up' tag). I don't know how to do that on a smartphone, but I know you can do it easily on a Windows desktop/laptop.

Stuff from an auction today

I just got a couple of random Wizard-branded tools at a sale today! :) I hadn't seen/heard of the brand before, but thought it sounded cool. I found out it was the higher-end Western Auto Supply store brand in the 1940s through the 1960s, manufactured by Vlchek and Duro/Indestro (looks like yours is the latter).

I forgot my LEFT-BEHIND photo from this morning's flea market...

A 1952 RIDGID calendar, featuring George Petty pin-up girls in, um, er, compromising positions with Ridge Tool Company tools. The guy wanted more than I was interested in spending for it. I don't buy much collectible "paper" (catalogs, brochures, manuals, etc), only very selectively, and these images are all over the internet. In fact, I've used some of the images from this particular catalog to produce an informal "guide" to dating vintage RIDGID pipe wrenches, so it was interesting that it happened to be this particular year I ran into.

Great finds guys!

BKS: give that Masterench a try! I keep a couple on my camping gear and that's about all I use on the propane connections. The harder you pull, the tighter it holds! Much better than a crescent/adjustable for hex nuts and bolts! (as long as you have clearance...)

Send all your Wizard stuff to me. No sense in clogging this thread with it. It just gets in everybody's way. No one is really interested....

We were busy this morning but we went to a couple of sales this afternoon The first sale was a moving sale and I couldn't leave the Bosch jigsaw behind for $30.00. The second sale was an estate sale and I found a few things including a Dunlap hacksaw for my Dunlap collection, which I know that Lugz will like.

Hi Don, I'm jealous of that jigsaw score. That looks brand new.

Hit a couple sales yesterday, a barn sale and an estate sale in a barn. Didn't find any tools, either overpriced, under quality, or didn't need. But I did find a nice vintage reloading scale, a Herters:
<a href="https://ibb.co/bXeugS"><img src="https://preview.ibb.co/bGDy87/20180216_141050.jpg" alt="20180216_141050" border="0"></a>
And at the estate sale (there was a cool old double door safe, but I have zero desire to wrangle that down the stairs...) all I could find was a box of old reels
<a href="https://ibb.co/gvrUFn"><img src="https://preview.ibb.co/jWuS1S/20180216_141106.jpg" alt="20180216_141106" border="0"></a>
They had it marked as $3 a reel, but I offered $15 and they took it.
Nothing special but it was 10 reels, some good some bad.

Some Penns, Mitchels, a Cadillac, Hurricanes and a few spare parts. Should be fun to play with, clean up and do... something. I don't fish, so I got no idea.

Hi all, I am new to auctions and estate sales etc. GJ is a dangerous place to spend time. After seeing a fully restored CM block grinder in the Tool Polishers thread I thought I might try to get one of those and do my own resto. I got this one at an auction for $20 and plan on doing it later in the year. Wish me luck!
:D

Don't know how the photos got turned on their side. Sorry about that

cool how they hang from the top!:lol_hitti Looks like you will fit right in.

Hit up a Sunday flea with my parents. This flea isn't one of my favorites, as most prices are too high. Today had a minor stroke of luck, and found one vendor with interesting stuff and reasonable pricing.

Cornwell wood handle slotted screwdriver
Proto 1427 cross pein auto body hammer head
Craftsman small sized surface gage in original box
NOS Lufkin 25' tape measure in original box

STILL not much in tools... And nothing I wanted to pay for.

Two stops, one was dead, the other was the Estate sale from Friday I went to to dig and see what might have been uncovered from others digging. Glad I went as some good stuff, even if the few tools were not worth getting!

So for $10;

A Wood pig puzzle for SWMBO (she likes pigs and puzzles so...), the "box" in the upper right corner isn't a cardboard box; its almost solid, and is essentially a cardboard slinky"!

A folding hanger, A wood ocean reel, 3 boxes of cap gun caps (Need to bake these in the sun to dry out a bit...), a white porcelain bowl and a small copper bowl that caught my eye.

attachment.php

A Pyrex Lab glass "decanter" nearly full of flat glass "marbles", (SWMBO wanted the marbles)

attachment.php

Possibly the best find: a Coleman military medical lantern shade, These go for good coin on that auction site, but this one stays with me... The two halves link together, and the whole slips over the bail (straight up) and rests on the top vent. The underside is aluminum and reflects.

The Flurry cardboard slinky is neat. Maybe get another pic of it expanded?

But what are you doing with someone else's bowels??? ;)

It’s a sepratory funnel nice fine. I’m always on the lookout for glass lab ware. Not vintage but still useful. Set it up on a lab stand with a ring and it lets you pour out the heavier liquid.

That makes sense. Much more sense than 3/4 filling it with flat marbles...

I got all those out now and we are seeing if I have maybe a flower pot holder for it.

Went back to estate sale today (half price day)... Basically nothing left... There was a good size Dell TV/Monitor (not really sure) with built in speakers mounted on the wall, would have only been $20 but it didn't have any sort of HDMI or PC connections... It was coax cable, component, and Svideo... lol.. So I passed...

Thinking about it now I could have mounted that in the garage! Oh well.. easy come, easy go...

Stopped in Wysox PA today, while Mrs LesserSon (what a gal! - it’s her birthday weekend), two daughters and two Labradors waited in the car (so not a thorough crawl). Vendors from two or more previous locations (Isbell’s and Wysox flea have closed) in the former Sears on rt6 (if travelling East from Troy, turn in at the third dead skunk). Decent variety of country decor, hunting, fishing, etc. I pawed through wrenches & pliers that were previously at Isbell’s. Found a 3/4dr Bonney breaker bar with the bar bent and almost bought it, but I only have one socket that size. Picked up a AX date-code (1946) Bonaloy combo and a LocRite DBE and this 7/16 PROTO-PLOMB combo, which I intend to resell.

Matt, since you seem to know Lab glass, it seems odd that the measure marking are for with the valve up? :dunno: Is that so you can measure the un-separated liquid, then you reverse it?

One estate sale and the flea this weekend for me. Typed out a shaggy-dog story to go with it, but computer gremlins....

Tool pickups:
- 26" red crinkle Kennedy midbox. Needs some cleaning and "dolly-time" but it's a keeper.
- 8oz Blue Point hammer
- Estwing hatchet, brand new.
- Mustang 7/8" socket (not pictured)
- Kennedy metric Allen wrenches
- '50s Craftsman table saw on a cast iron base, w/casters. Has a May, 1955 Craftsman 3/4hp motor which runs. Needs cosmetics and a new 2" pulley on the motor.

Coolest piece of the military gear is the 28', 3-color parachute; most useful is the Thermarest pad. Hopefully other folks will want the ERDL and RDF jackets. That 2nd Infantry Division sweater was quite the surprise.

Sales weren't great today, but a quick look at Craigslist Free and I finally got a flammables cabinet. Here are the CL photos as I've yet to unload it from the car.

I noticed that. It’s odd that the marks are upside down. The ones I used (both cylindrical and pear shaped as they are known) had upright markings.

pretty sure that is to tamp down tobacco in a pipe. Half and Half pipe tobacco is still sold today. Not sure about the straight part (pipe cleaner?)

The separatory funnel is used for titrations as well, the markings are for volume removed or used in the experiment. The clock arm alignment tool is a briar pipe cleaning tool...no good finds for me this week.

Carried by pipe smokers. My dad carried one like it for years. Tamping down tobacco, scraping out the pipe bowl and cleaning out the stem of the pipe.
