Dropped some aluminum cans off at the local recycling center today. Seems I always leave with something from that place.

I pulled up today and BAM, saw this vintage floor jack sitting there just begging for a new lease on life. Everything seems to work. It goes up, it goes down. It leaks oil pretty bad though.

As found:

They usually want $0.50 per Lb... I know this puppy weighs more than I want to pay. Weighed in at 192#... I'm pretty cheap so, I'm not paying $86, that's for sure. We negotiated the price downward to a much more reasonable amount and tried to stuff it in the back of the XJ.

After a bit of research, this appears to be a Weaver 2T model from the late 30's. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Not a bad find for a random Tuesday. :3gears:

No sales worth a darn lately... Found this Craftsman router box on eBay with the bits for ~$9 shipped. I have a bunch of other old CMan bits to fill this up and probably still need something larger... lol...

I was pleasantly surprised though when I was looking at it I noticed the insert wasn't flush. I pulled it out and found the original card in really nice shape. Also (not pictured) was a bunch of vinyl pouches from extra CMan & Stanley bits the PO purchased ages ago also looked like they were as new as the day they were hanging at the store. They are all pre-barcode..

Jason, I have two of those, plus two "wet wipe" boxes full (one is setup with a plate full of bit shank holes), and I still have overflow... When I moved into this house 30 odd years ago I had to borrow a router from a co-worker; twice!

A few days later than promised but here are the drawer contents from the green 4-drawer cabinet I picked up on Friday at a garage sale.

There were lots of useful tools and many of them vintage. Love that green cabinet by the way! Four monkey wrenches (my first ones) and just as many pipe wrenches. One of them was marked J.P Danielson NY. Another seemed like "Walworth"? What I thought was a throw-away hack saw turned out to be a M. Klein & Sons hacksaw.

Pic 1 is contents of top drawer.
Pic 2 is contents of 2nd drawer.
Pic 3 is contents of 3rd drawer.
Pic 4 is contents of bottom drawer.

Pic 5 are some of the vintage tools...hoping you guys might have some info on these. Starting from the slip-joint pliers in the upper left corner (and going clockwise from there)
- Proto 243 slip-joint pliers
- S-shaped DOE only marks are "P-S" in a oval and 301 on other end. ??
- DOE wrench no MFG just "Drop Forged" and on opp side "Made in USA" ??
- DOE only mark is in middle with a "HW" ? inside a circle. ??
- Plomb DOE 7/16 - 3/8 3021
- Plomb Combo 1/2" 1216
- Vlchek DOE "24" 9/16 - 1/2 W1618 "Push Rod Wrench"
- Vlchek DOE "7" 13/16 - 3/4 W2426 "Alloy"
- Indestro DOE "Drop Forged Select Steel" "Chicago, USA"
- Ford DOE "U.S.A." "M" or "N" on opp side
- Dikes appear to have "?arch?oo" stamped in a circular fashion at center ??
- Dikes marked "Worth" with top of T almost spanning the whole word. ??
- CeeTee pliers in two different sizes, "Jamestown, NY USA" I have a third pair that are blackish. ??? Love these.
- 3 wood handled screwdrivers. Center one marked nicely "Indestro Super ??? USA". It is in fantastic shape. The other two are unmarked. Any ideas on makers? ???

Pic 6 more vintage tools, starting with sockets in top left corner and moving clockwise...
- Challenger spark plug 5/8" "By Proto" with Proto circled. I have other Challenger stuff but not sure I've seen the "By Proto" mark. When was this done?
- P&C spark plug 7/8" 6128
- Duro-Chrome 7/6" 4514
- Barcalo Buffalo 10" adj wrench "Model N10". Don't know a lot of Barcalo.
- Scholler 8" adj wrench ??
- DOE heavy, well made only marked with "R1" within a circle. ??
- Set of 4 DOEs, marked "Drop Forged Select Steel" on handle, opp side marked "Made in U.S.A." 7/16-3/8 P0723, 11/16-13/32 P027, 3/4-5/8 P0729 & 7/8-13/16 P0731B ???
- Monkey wrench, marked "9 IN" on handle, opp side "Forged Steel U.S.A." ??
- Monkey wrench, marked "9 Auto" on handle, opp side "9" ??
- Monkey wrench, marked "Made in USA 9 Auto" on handle, opp side "? 45". That question mark is some mark before the 45 looks like a circle with something in it. ??
- Monkey wrench, with partial wooden handle...no marks. I've seen these but my first one (as all with all these monkey wrenches). Anyone tell me anything?

Pic 7, is the workmate that I thought was a knock-off. Turns out it is a B&D. Wondering if anyone has any idea how old it might be? The table is held in place with some steel clips like things. Table has been painted blue and I suspect it may have been replaced. Everything is there and all works very well. I'm using now it to refinish a little 3-drawer metal box I picked up last week.

Including the vise, the vintage green cabinet, the Equipto storage with 12 of 24 drawers, the workmate, all the vintage Craftsman tools, etc it was $30 very well spent.

Some guesses to start with:
DOE wrench is actually MH in a circle = McKaig Hatch
Small dykes are Barcalo in a circle
Plomb wrenches are '41 - '47
You only have one monkey wrench with a wood handle. The three to the right are Auto Wrenches.
Cee Tee pliers are Crescent's price line.
Nice Barcalo early 10" adjustable
Scholler 8" adjustable is an early Buffalo, NY product
One possible wartime Ridgid pipe wrench and one red postwar Ridgid pipe wrench.
Great haul!
-Don

To add to Don's input...

The "Drop Forged Select Steel" DOEs are made by Indestro.

"Auto" is short for "automobile" (as opposed to bicycle, which is where these style wrenches got their start). The two with the "sweep" (not straight) handles are Vlchek. They're the only mfgr who made that style handle, which they marketed as a better grip. Very common (EDIT: in these parts anyway).

lol, yeah all mine right now are in various cups. I would find literally a cup full at estate sales for like a dollar or two so I would just grab them because for that price you can't even buy a single bit! I know I will need at least one more box but I'm just kind of taking my time looking for something cheap.

I have just a 1/4" shaft router (funny enough a friend is borrowing it right now) but it does 99% of what I want. It's an old CMan too. I would really like an adjustable speed, 1/2" shaft, plunge capable router... Which hopefully one day I'll find cheap at a sale, but till then I make do...

Only one significant find last weekend. But one I have been looking for, for a long time. I finally own a leg (blacksmith) vise. I thought $50 was an OK price. It has a little rust but is complete with no missing parts. Unfortunately as busy as I am, it will a while before it gets mounted. 1c6641293678f71418057d6bc89412d6.jpg

wow! that is almost identical to one I got last month. Mine was covered in grease and I am still cleaning it (little by little). but too many projects, too little time.

Any idea why they aren't branded Indestro? Were these a more economical line?

A new addition to the collection off eBay.
Paid more than I wanted, but less than I could have.

9-1/2"dia. Billings&Spencer sign.
Printed on aluminum, so new(ish).
Possibly a repro, but I doubt it. Who would bother for this brand ?
I like it.

image.jpg

Now I need to find a spot for it that doesn't involve rearranging the entire wall.

Gov't auction. I think I paid $50 USD for them. I would say it's not a steal but rather a fair price. They are mostly 'Gray' tools but there are some others that I have not heard about. Gray is a Canadian manufacturer of higher end stuff, you can't really find them in the big block stores.

Anyone know what the other brands are?

Flea market finds this past week:

Williams 3/8” ratchet, MF (Millers Falls I believe) 3/8”.
Sockets-Proto, MAC, Wright.
Tiny OTC puller.
Lufkin Tape in the box. I see Davethorik also brought home a Lufkin in the box. I couldn’t pass up this beauty when the guy said $2. He must have gotten it free!

View media item 81030
View media item 81031
Wrenches- Kobalt, 3 little metric Proto, Craftsman, Williams, Wiha Germany T handle

View media item 81032
Wrenches- A nice Wright, 2 Mac ratcheting wrenches, Proto Plomb transition, Britool 1-1/16 x 1-1/8

View media item 81033
A small axe of sorts, I’m hoping someone can tell me about. It sure looks crude but has a forge mark I can’t read. Maybe a blacksmith shop?

Some nice Chisels- a large C.T. Parish, Oxford England. Several with no name, a Buck, a couple Stanleys and a Witherby.

Forge mark. What do you guys say?

Blacksmith? European? Asian/Indian junk? Wall hanger? It’s not very sharp, not very heavy, very dark, rough and no polish to it.

The top word looks like Lenig??. That could be way off. The stamp is deep but squished small letters.

I remember that find. It put the bug in my brain.
You paid less than I did and yours looks in better condition.
Not sure which is older. This one has a red border, yours doesn't.
Is yours steel or aluminum ?

Well, at least we are all in agreement!

Pipe smokers tool. packer, scraper, poker...

Carried by pipe smokers. My dad carried one like it for years. Tamping down tobacco, scraping out the pipe bowl and cleaning out the stem of the pipe.

The separatory funnel is used for titrations as well, the markings are for volume removed or used in the experiment. The clock arm alignment tool is a briar pipe cleaning tool...no good finds for me this week.

pretty sure that is to tamp down tobacco in a pipe. Half and Half pipe tobacco is still sold today. Not sure about the straight part (pipe cleaner?)

ok guys thanks for the info. guess it makes sense, now I need to buy a pipe..lol

Craigslist free strikes again....need a bunch of rebar for my scissor lift install which is coming up. Same guy who gave me a bunch of conduit last week has a bunch of rebar...get in truck, and grab the rebar. Then he says, don't suppose you want a box of hammers, which in fact I do. Then, on the way out he offers me a bunch of extension cords, which I can never have too many of.

Yay.

P.S. I would add pics, but you all know what rebar and extension cords look like. The hammers were an Estwing framing, a double faced (hard and soft) rubber mallet, a cheap rubber mallet, and 2 US made 5 pound sledges.

That looks like a Tomahawk and potentially is very old. That is a very nice piece and bears more research.

@3baygarage I think you need a strong magnifying glass for that tiny marking! Photos are too small for me to make anything out.

It was a overcast and drizzling rain day at the Wednesday flea market but I snagged a few things.....

AWH1.jpg AWH2.jpg

Got the hammer handles for $3 for the pair....and the steel wedges were 2 for a quarter x 3 pair =75¢
Gave .50¢ for the Williams DBE wrench....according to Alloy Artifacts it was made from 1945 and after....
The J.P.Danielson Co. 12" adjustable was $3 and was rusted solid but was in excellent shape and I knew I could free it up....Date code on it, according to Alloy Artifacts is Dec. 1945 (4 months after the war)....
AWH3.jpg

The 6" Utica tools adjustable and the 8" Husky adjustable were .50¢ each....

Total = $8.25

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I got the 12" adjustable freed up and then I removed the rust off all 3 adjustables and the wrench and got 'em all oiled up and purdy.....

I'm thinking Tomahawk also could be an import from England/Europe. I agree bears doing some research on, and in the meantime, till you know what you have, do NOTHING to it, especially the wood...

Even better than cheap, I was literally walking across the road and these nice H. Boker pliers were laying there. A little road rash bit they should clean up nice.

Picked these up in a box of old electrical fixtures, I'm thinking they might be brass ornamental fittings for a gas light ? Does anyone know what these are ?

I'd say European, as it goes straight from the eye, not from the sides like a wedge. Here is a good example of what I am talking about.

3 bay, I think it is a throwing axe. I have seen them before that looks just like that.

Thanks guys. I want to try and find out more and at least make out the name.

Hexen- I’m mad because I walked by a few magnifiers and a jeweler loupe for cheap recently. If I’m squinting at it, I doubt you guys could read it like that. Was hoping maybe someone would recognize it.
