Well, got one of those 'FOUR MORE DAYS to spend your $12 FREECASH in points!' from Sears. Took a spin around online and saw these for 17.99. Came to $6.47 after the discount. Made in Japan. Notwithstanding that I haven't had the opportunity to try them out they actually seem like they might not be a useless gimmick tool.

Rebranded Vessel Megadora 980 Impacta, I haven't had a need for mine yet but they get decent reviews online. I imagine they'll work well, it's basically a hand held impact driver but in a screwdriver form instead of a bit holder.

I got them with some Sears Cash and actually found a need to try them on a stripped screw. Worked great

BP air ratchet is impacting. I have Kuani and SP made ones, im not sure who the OEM is on the BP but the diagram shows a differently designed hammer mechanism. With the other two I noticed the hammer will stall with the ratchet at odd angles so I wanted to give this one a try. COO Taiwan.

Im on the fence on the Facom pliers. The locking ones are great but the standard ones are all chrome plated, including the diagonals. We'll see how long it lasts before it starts chipping. I do like the handles and they use some sort of plastic spring which seems to work good. COO France on all the pliers.

The 12mm. I thought about calling, but it doesn't really bother me. On the SAE set I didn't even realize one was missing the "2.0" until someone on this board pointed it out in the picture I posted

That was me. I'm OCD and notice little things like that.

Well, I can kind of show them...

I just ordered to pick up at HD (quantity was down to the last 3 on the dremel and I don't know exactly when I can get there...):

- Dremel Ultra saw kit. I had been gifted the saw max last year but I have noticed a greater blade selection in the ultra saw and I find the tool useful for what I do around the house when I don't need a circular saw. Tiling a bathroom right now and need to make some curved cuts.

- knee pads. Have had two ACL surgeries so kneeling is a no go. My back is suffering because I have to reach the ground with my hands straight legged. Hopefully these help. Mcguire- Nicholas brand

- and lastly a ridgid 12 gallon 5hp shop vac. I've never owned one myself but have always had one around and available. My girlfriend got a little Stanley one for Christmas but it can't seem to **** up anything larger than a marble so I gave up at the time and used a broom. Now I won't have that issue...

$250 out the door paid by gift cards.Screenshot_20180408-042529_Firefox.jpgScreenshot_20180408-042539_Firefox.jpgScreenshot_20180408-042546_Firefox.jpg

Those locking Facom pliers look fantastic. Looks like they'd be real comfortable to squeeze.

The Koken sockets have some unpolished areas on the ledges. Reminds me of silver paint overspray. Takes away from the professional look they could've had.

Are those Koken double universals? Got a part # on those? They look pretty sweet

The sockets are flawless. What you're seeing is a reflection off the socket next to it.

I drew arrows to the "Ledges" that were not polished.

Yes I knew what you meant. The reliefs are intentionally left a matte chrome. Its a German and Asian thing to not polish all surfaces. Half of the things you pointed out, like the top of the socket, are indeed reflections. Trust me, they're flawless.

48548's look a lot more refined. I'm thinking perhaps the lighting that was used in Skin's picture was exaggerating the matte areas making them look rougher than they actually are.

Hey Skin

What would be an advantage for using a double universal versus a standard universal? Could you also give a scenario where a double universal would be better than using a standard universal? I have not seen those type of sockets before. Thank you

The Koken ones are similar to Armstrong/Matco Pinless. There is zero binding through-out the range of tilt unlike a standard universal block which hits a point where it binds then rolls off the fastener or jams/breaks. Because of the Koken design they have to stack the joints to gain more arc. Another benefit is that torque transfer is far more uniform where a universal block only puts torque onto the two points where the pins meet. I figure they're about 28* or so per joint so the double gets you real close to 60* of smooth working angle. I plan on using these mostly with power tools where a standard universal can be annoying as it flops or bumps things and turns too far to get on the fastener.

Actually one other benefit of the Koken design is its spring loaded so cant become floppy.

There are many applications in engine bays these days with everything so crammed together that you cant effectively swing just a ratchet and socket or even fit a ratchet head. You're forced to move the drive tool away and at an angle, hence the tool.

FWIW a good universal is still superior for working angle with minimal length, the Koken ones are just far less frustrating to use when you have a little extra space to spare.

Tool shopping at Home Depot this afternoon. Home Depot only had the 2000 series in the journeyman style handles, so I had to take a pass on them for the D213-9NE. I don't think I'm gonna be cutting much hard steel wire and screws so this should be good enough considering I've been getting by with 7" USA crescent pliers up until now. Hopefully the Klein's don't disappoint.

Klein screwdrivers don't get the best reviews these days but I couldn't help pull the trigger on the 11 in 1. I like that it comes with torx drivers, a lot of Dewalt tools come with those fasteners.

New dewalt tape measure. Same as the last one. Nothing new or special, it's just time for a new fresh one.

Dewalt retractable seems sturdier and more comfortable than my old Stanley 10-788. Blade doesn't wobble nearly as much. I think I'll be happy with this knife.

Hey Skin,

Thank you for the insight and I just learned about a new tool. Looks like I will be picking up a set of double universals to try out on the planes. Thanks GJ!
