I`m considering dragging this one home, it`s at the inlaws house, father in law passed away back in `98, he had it sense the late seventies and he bought it used, Rem line on top and a sticker badged SK bottom, ( Waterloo...? )..not so good phone pics..

Yes correct on the Waterloo guess!

I’d like to have a Remline like that one. I passed in one several months ago because it didn’t have a lid.

I ran across this Craftsman Tool box. I normally am not into boxes so rough, but this one caught my attention The Letters of the Craftsman name are stamped up as is the numbers 6516 under the handle. The tray has rounded edges on the bottom. I have never seen that before.

Anyone have any idea as to the age of this one? It is going to take some work to straighten this one out, but I thought I would try.
John

Actually, looking closer at the photo of the Kennedy Versa cart, it doesn't look too bad. Just dirty with the old stickers. Those are good solid carts if you are wheeling back and forth between stations, worth the $150 easy.

Latest Carry box. picked up today. Very old and small SK Tools, probably 30's at a guess. I should post in the SK thread, but I don't have the link.

RXB: if you have the pics downloaded to your laptop or cell phone you can download them directly to Garage Journal using the paperclip method (just above where we write our posts) and attach pics like you would an email.

great looking wood toolbox and would love to see a few more pictures. not sure who made it, but more pictures of the hardware and maybe with the drawers open might help others.

welcome to GJ!!

Didn’t mean to cast doubt, just have to be cautious these days.

I like that box a lot. If I needed another hobby, I could very easily get drawn into collecting those old wood boxes.

What make you certain of that? I'm asking not because of doubt, but because that might help sort out if its a manufactured box, or one made by the guy that had it.

Re: Latest Old Machinist Box

Original owner passed about 20 years ago and I purchased it from his aged younger brother . Been in his closet all these years. In the box along with the tools was a few IBM brass tool chits . Most of the tools definitely of the time frame .
Neither the son or nephews were interested in it and so it now lives with me .

So it was the mans personal box. I suspect it was made by him or by someone he knew.

Are there any markings on the drawer bottoms underneath, or inside the case where the drawers, go?

Maybe a product of their own wood shop. Large companies often had a facilities dept. That would handle cabinetry, shelving etc.

the drawer pulls looked like a union chest at first, but not when i got home and took a closer look.
the yale lock also threw me off.
the handle on top looks quality and may have some stamping on it.
the more i look at it methinks it's a handmade one off.
very well done and maybe better than an assy line built chest. hard to say.

RXB: i'm tending to agree it's handmade with the hardware on the top corners, but not 100% sure about that.

nice looking box in no matter who made it.

BEAT: have you found any new wood toolbox additions to your collection since you've been absent for a while? welcome back!!

A one off is probably it as I find nothing like it anywhere on the net. The maker was a true artist . Although I did find a three drawer for sale on the net with the same pulls

thanks for the input guys

My buddy picked up this little MAC Box this weekend for $30. I like that style MAC box and probably can fit this little guy in some where.
I'm trying to wheedle it out of him for the same money.

RXB, That could definitely be a 1-off. 1st company I worked for had their own in-house pattern shop and employed 2 patternmakers. That's the kind of craftsmanship that made that box. The hardware was readily available at that time.

God I want to kick myself...

The one effing day I don't check Kijiji religiously every hour this gets listed for 60$ and I just saw it (3 hours after it's posted)

"Full of Craftsman tools" as per the ad.

For added context, this is THE first red/gray box I ever see posted for sale locally. Left a message, but I'm not optimistic. :(

Tim: it's hard to find all the good deals, but hopefully you've still got a chance at that one. GEESH a few wrenches are worth that much. good luck

Beat: sorry to say out of the about 100 toolboxes i own I don't have a wood one so I can't ship one to you, but maybe you'd like one of my metal ones for your wood ones and the weather is getting pretty nice here in Seattle if you need a reason for a road trip.

even if something has been said already even your confirmation is good and we need more posters cause the group posting a lot wonders if anybody is even listening and might stop posting themselves.

cheers and good to hear you have still been around!!

I picked this up last weekend for $40. Guy had owned it for about fifty years.
