1880 to 1906I almost snagged a Meadville vise once. IIRC, my research then found that Meadville Vise Co. was around from 1890 to 1910 when it was acquired by Yost.
Sweet looking vise by the way!

Did you post them in urine and we need to be looking under a blacklight?

Here is a lesson to be learned for anybody contemplating a new, low priced vise.
I found this ad searching for “vise” on my local OFFER-UP. Asking $8 for parts or repair.
Cretedog, I like the Meadville.---That's an old duck and an odd duck.---If it didn't have a covering, that's the heaviest built open screw I've ever seen.

It has a turned down 1/4" lip that fits in a notch in the casting. The top of the plate is held in place by the pipe jaw.

cretedog, This is a No. 1 4" jaw so it is possible that there was no plate on your 6"
Here is a link to the patent http://datamp.org/patents/search/advance.php?pn=453793&id=40864&set=5
That is a picture of my vise when I first got it. The J S is the same as the Meadvile.
VA you hit a milestone!! 3K posts!

Yes! Va. Congrats!
I see that outlaw is only a couple of months away from twenty five thousand...
Trying again
Well thanks to all of you I picked up the mighty Hollands 46! Outlaw you have the sharpest eye ever! That was the swivel pin broken off on the back in the sellers photos. The seller was a great older gentleman and retired blacksmith. Apparently I missed out on a 5500+lb Peter Wright anvil!
The Hollands looks great no cracks and only minor dings and a few chips. I got to thinking on my way home. I am extremely happy with this vise, I know some of you are serious collectors. I only wanted a very big vise. Some members on here have mentioned that this is a pretty rare vise. Before I tear into this vise and try to get that pin out of the static jaw, is there anyone local that might want to trade for something similar but more common? I really love the Reed 4c with the pipe jaws!
Am I way off? I have that pin soaking in penetrating oil and the slide pulled but nothing else for now. Please let me know what you think or if you want to trade.
Also I did put it on the scale 175lbs!!!! Plus still some factory paint left in a few spots. Almost a metallic ford blue.
Aren't there one too many zeros on the weight of that Peter Wright anvil you described Mr. W?
