Yesterday I gave the Jeep a major detailing including blowing all of the dust out of the interior, vacuuming, pressure washing the undercarriage and engine bay followed by a hand washing.

Tonight I was finally able to get back to work in the shop tonight.

My son lowered his Jeep down to where it will sit when done. I think it will look great with his tire/wheel choice.

Then playtime was over and back to work.

Lastly my new Handy SAM 2 motorcycle lift table finally showed up this afternoon so I set it up and moved my old original Handy into the storage bay for the time being.

The front and rear drop down sections sure will be nice. It always made me nervous to lift the bikes up high enough to remove tires from dressers on my old Handy. I never had an issue but it just made me anxious.

Looks like a nice spot for a getaway.

Interesting motorcycle lift and the fold downs look like it make certain tasks a lot easier.

What a gorgeous area Mike. Glad you two had a great uneventful trip. So did you notice much improvement with the new brakes on the trails?

Thanks Shorty. It was a great getaway and I loved being able to spend the whole week relaxing with my wife.

I think the lift will work great. I've had my original Handy lift for about 25 years now and love it, but there are a few jobs that involve having to remove tires/wheels where I think they will be much easier on this lift as opposed to my original Handy lift table. This one is also 4" wider and about 10" longer than the original. I kept my original and will have both in the shop when I have the need but for now it is merely stored in the RV/storage bay out of the way.

Thanks for stopping by and checking in Shorty.

Thanks Cam.

As for the brakes, there is quite a noticeable difference and I really didn't ever feel like I was lacking in the brake department, at least not with my little 35" tires but she sure stops on a dime now.

Now getting ready for a next major mod to the Jeep. Hope to gather parts and commence within the next several months so she's ready for spring.

You'll have to wait to see what's in store however. I think you will be impressed Cam.

Awesome! And just let me know when you want that 392 Hemi I got sitting here. It'll put down 500lbs of torque alll day long :pimpflash

Btw, luv the bike bench. I still haven't even looked into them yet but will need too within the next couple months. I'll have to check out that manufacturer, that's a nice looking set up for sure.

Welcome back Mike. Looks like you had fun.

I am digging the Handy Lift. Been thinking about getting a Lift Table like that for our Snowmobiles. These old bones don't like bending over for long periods of time anymore.

As for the motorcycle lift, I can't recommend Handy enough. I have loved my original that I have had for close to 25 years now and I won't expect anything less from my new Handy. Pretty much any Harley dealership you go into will have the Handy if that tells you anything.

Thanks Pat.

I used my original Handy with the side extension plates for working on sleds and ATV's for many, many years and it works perfectly. It's so nice to stand and work on a bike, sled or ATV vs. crawling around on the ground and especially kneeling.

The wife and I have been on vacation and hosted our annual Jeep/RV Rally in Ouray, CO.

Our group airing down before running Poughkeepsie Gulch.

Looks like fun. Ping me next time you’re in Co and planning for a run and my son and I will meet up with you and your gang and tag along for trail or so.

Matt

We’re in the south Denver metro area so we’d be interested in any trails on the eastern slope too.

I'll keep that in mind but we haven't ventured east. We generally stay to the Western slope. Usually Ouray or Buena Vista area with emphasis on Ouray. Our club's Buena Vista rally is in full swing this week but we weren't able to attend due to this damn thing called work.:lol_hitti

That is some beautiful country you have, glad you are able to enjoy it.
Yes, "work" is a four letter word.
Can't wait to see your son's Jeep finished, it looks awesome so far.

Thanks. After seeing my son's Jeep with the tires/wheels mocked into position I too am getting excited to see it sitting on the suspension and driving. I think it is going to be pretty nice when done. Probably not as nice as his bad *** LJ that he sold but I had a special place in my heart for that Jeep. Still can't believe he sold it.:(

Considering who had done the work on it, I wish it was ME that had bought it! :)

Glad you and the wife had an enjoyable getaway, that sure does look like a purty area. Looking forward to seeing how your son's Jeep turns out.

Some beautiful country you get to play on Mike. Congrats on the lift table. It fits right in with your impeccable shop.

Thanks for stopping by Claude. I agree, the wife and I are pretty blessed to be so close to so many wonderful places to play in out here in the west. Just wish we had more time to do so but I don't want to wish my life away.

The lift will work great and I think I will really like that front and rear drop out feature. Once I get some more bike projects going (after my son's Jeep) I will probably bring the other Handy lift back into the shop so we have one for quick jobs and one for long term project bikes, very similar arrangement that we had at our last shop but I think I have a bit more room here.:bounce:

Thanks again for checking in and commenting Claude.

Thank you, I appreciate that. We built his LJ while he was in college and really enjoyed the time we spent building it and working on it. I especially enjoyed the time we spent wheeling it after it was done. I'm sure we will have similar experiences with this one and will enjoy wheeling with him again when it's done but he has other things on his mind during this build.

That lift makes a nice addition to the shop Mike. Is the new shop full yet? :lol_hitti

I know it doesn't take long before the walls are pushing outward. ....

Thanks Robert. I've really liked my original Handy lift for the past 25 years or so and can't imagine having to go back to working on the floor but it will be nice to have the drop out features that this one offers. My wife thought I was crazy selling my Direct Lift ProCycle lift just to replace it with another lift but I hated that lift from the day I bought it and kicked myself in the *** every time I used it for not buying another Handy at the time. That's what I get for skimping.

As for the shop, it's pretty full at the time but my son has his toolbox placed in the middle of the shop and he has a LOT of parts in boxes on the floor and on my work benches which really give it a much more full feeling. I'm sure once his parts are on his Jeep and off the floor and benches it will open it up some. Also once he buys a place of his own and takes his toolbox home the center of the shop will open up so the closed in feeling is only temporary at this point.

We were talking the other night and he was asking about home buying and should he leave his toolbox here at our shop or take it home. I told him it was up to him but even though he will still be doing most of his work in our shop it would be nice to have tools at home for smaller projects around the house or even small tinkering projects on his bike or vehicles. I told him when he comes over our shop to do larger projects he is welcome to use my tools and I think that is what he was looking for. Seems strange to be talking with him about such things but I think he is getting pretty serious with a certain young lady.

Mike, this morning during the hellish commute, I passed a big coach pulling a black Jeep Rubicon very similar to yours, on I-15 heading north. For a second I thought it may be you, but as I got closer I noticed Texas tags, plus his Jeep had a snorkel. Too much tight traffic to snap a photo, or I would have.
Maybe you're expecting company? :)

Thanks for thinking of me but not me nor am I expecting anyone that I know of. Actually, I'm the oddball in our group as I'm the only one with a Black Jeep, no snorkel.:)

Mike,
So you are saying you are the Black Jeep of the family? :lol_hitti

Side note, if you get a few minutes would you mind popping over to my thread, I have a problem that I can't figure out and you are just the man for the job.

Thanks JB. My Jeep and I will definitely be the black Jeep of the family by the first of the year.

Big things they are a coming.[emoji12]

At least as soon as I get caught up on about a half dozen other projects that are in line first.

Got some more work done on my son’s WJ last night.

A few welds from the frame supports.

Getting the other side prepped.

Clamped and tacking in place.

This section done.
21a45fc5d9bd89b494b704bb91217d53.jpg

Spring bucket gusset welded in place.
ca555ca34a03a80c89ffaa3e824339fb.jpg

The welds aren’t as nice looking as I had hoped. There is seam sealer and undercoating between some of the layers and hard to remove so I get some popping and splatter on occasion when welding the side support plates.

Lastly this showed up after work yesterday.

Hmmmm. I wonder what’s in this box. [emoji41]

You’ll have to stay tuned to see. Hopefully in a few months the contents will be revealed.

Here's my guess:

R2.8 TURBO DIESEL - TURN KEY CUMMINS REPOWER

Mike needs more low end torque for the trails
