Scooping up five of these and arguing with the manager??....... If you used a Lowe’s Credit Card don’t be surprised if you get a 237 Code the next time you do an online order. :wtf:

I know I have read getting flagged for online shenanigans, but a manager in-store can affect your account? That would be news to me, and if they can, it doesn't seem right if only for human bias.

If Lowe's wanted to evenly distribute some clearance items, they shouldn't mark them down 75%. That is sort of asking for someone to clear the shelf. Lowe's obviously valued the shelf space more for something else, and the manager is only impeding the process. Some retail managers are glad to get rid of clearance.

3-Gallon Rice Bran Oil - $6.** in on clearance in store, at least the one I saw some at

Really?? The manager is a jackass to even argue with a customer about this. The tag read $22 and the item rang up $22. No matter what the buyers intention is, he is not gaming the system or defrauding anyone by purchasing the item at the tagged price. A quick call to corporate or to the regional manager would easily fix this manager's power trip.

Manager on a power trip? Sure... believing more customers should have that, or believing it is a price mistake.

Again, difference of being right and being effective.

By arguing with that manager do you believe in the future they would want to do anything good for you? =)

Or what about if an item is marked a penny?

Yes yes, corporate would side with customer from the customer experience perspective, it is not worth their time... BUT you better be sure that they will be far more careful in the future about such pricing.

This is why it is best to fly under the radar... NOR most of all, we don't know why a manager was involved in the sale in the first place.

Everyone knows that when picking up such deals.... you go through the self checkout.

You are assuming a manager or a human being approves those prices changes.

Look at the mistaken airline fares... in the carriage of contract they are not responsible for pricing mistakes.

Yes, this is retail... But a power trip manager can quickly write a note to corporate and fix that price.

The whole point is... with such terrific deals, you do not bring more attention to the matter by arguing with a manager. You walk away.... then come in and buy 20 mins later through self checkout or another cashier.

i agree, theres no way i would let someone talk me out of buying something at the price on the tag and the price it ran up. This is retail people, stop caring so much about your store manager job lol

I'm sorry everyone, I didn't mean to start a whole discussion on this.
Your first mistake is showing greed and bragging on this forum.. Unless there is signage stating limit one or two per customer, there is no limit to how many he can buy. Managers are not gods. You put yourself in the spot light at his store.
I apologize for adding my 2 cents, this is not the place for this kind of discussion. I posted the deal, so I gave myself the right to add my opinion.
Lets move on!!!
P.S. As another poster referenced a price mistake. This item was not a price mistake.

FYI, I found a store with several string trimmers in stock and I was able to buy two for 22.25 with no hassle. Thanks to the original poster for that deal, it made my mother in law happy that she has her own and my son has a gas trimmer now like his dad.

I was also polite to the manager and explained that I wasn’t reselling them. If I was I would have bought all 15 they had in stock at the Kalamazoo Lowe’s.

Hopefully this helps others get this weedeater as well.
Below is a spreadsheet of every Lowes that has these for 22$ in store with quantity numbers, please note you can only buy these for 22$ in store.

This is not a pricing error, and most or all of these stores will have the 22$ sticker/tag in store.

Troy-Bilt Spreadsheet
I talked to my sticker lady about it. It will go away.

has anyone read the reviews for this thing? Literally terrible lol

anyone who got one actually use it yet?

It's definitely not a pro model but a good deal for someone on a budget. Proper care matters more for 2 strokes than anything. Using good oil/ratio and 100% gas and it would probably last a few years if the gas wasn't left in it. I'll still take my stihl fs80 fs81 and fs90 anyday but would be a cheap way to get into attachments. Just don't expect a lot of power or longevity out of it.

You can kill a pro stihl/echo/Husqvarna in less than a year with leaving ethanol gas in it and letting the ethanol draw water in it. Also considering most pro models are $300+. $22 for a weedeater to get a few years isn't bad. My 2 oldest stihls are close to 25-30 years old and besides some carb refreshes have been wonderful. Most people don't get that longevity though and aren't willing to spend that much on maintenance as well as initial cost for something that isn't very fun doing anyway (weedeating)

Looks like my 1 cent bulbs got processed but they aren't going to ship it. It was supposed to be here yesterday, but it's still just showing that the label was created. I know fed ex tracking is notorious for beigg wrong so I'll give it a few more days then look at canceling the order. We shall see.

I suppose I wouldn't worry about cancelling a few cents order, and hope it ships. I received my 3 orders yesterday, one was cancelled but that was immediately after ordering the other day.

Don't take this wrong but it's not much below a fs45 that is one of stihls home owner series. With proper maintenance he should definitely get his $22 worth out of it. Most of the people that complain on the reviews I would almost bet don't know how to take care of things. It's not really a serviceable weedeater but should be able to be used for at least a few seasons as long as mix isn't left in it.

my FS45 was basically brand new out of someones trash because i guess they couldent start it =P

Cleaned the carb, new gas, and it runs like new. I had a lot of trouble starting it at first as well until i read the starting procedure. Its definitely different than most older 2 stroke stuff i have but as long as i follow the directions i dont have any issues.

Thanks hotwillie - looks like Lowe’s fixes the glitch!!!

I ordered two and got pickup ready notification followed by a cancellation phone call. I was bummed but they called me back 2 hours later and actually sold them to me for $99 a piece. Super happy

Thank you

And this is why you don’t argue with managers. Walk into a store with the $22 trimmers just as the employee removes the clearance price and puts up a regular $89 tag. Just came down from the top.

Confirmed at the register. $89

So the item wasn't supposed to be on clearance in the first place if it went back to regular price. Seems like this is sort of an exception to other clearance items, as the price typically only jumps back up when they sell out in-store, & that more applies to online.

Just like you said, the price change came from the top. 99% doubtful any manager at Lowes has the ability to get a price changed that quickly. Maybe he sent a note, but I doubt it had an impact on them changing the price. Though I'm sure he is thinking he did and now acting like the king of retail (guess he acted that way before too).

Bosch Blaze Laser combo - $69.98 - I thought I saw this cheaper in-store by $10 or $20, but was in a rush. I will try to get back in a couple days & confirm.

Watch your CC statements

Just a heads up to watch your CC statements. They canceled my concrete sealer order, but then a store shipped one tube - and charged full retail plus shipping for it, an unauthorized transaction and more than the entire original order.

Took almost an hour with CS to resolve, and they did not seem to understand why I was concerned that their store manager made unauthorized charges to my card.

If you bought the string trimmer, watch carefully for them to charge the price difference.

The laser tape measure is very accurate. I used it last summer to measure the length of trex railing I was install. Way more accurate than tape measure for between post measurements

Best to watch all the time. They put the orders that they cancel on mine all the time. They are the worst at customer service to straighten out.

So from my direct retail experience, this seems to be an issue of an algorithm gone wild. Algo put out a price drop, it gets processed without an actual human being looking over and approving it. I.e. look at the Home Depot thread.

In this case, something caught up and a human being put it out of its misery.
Could have been a manager or a regional person making a phone call.

Or... really could have been those same systems triggered, i.e., thanks to people buying more than 1 at a time, reports are generated that there was a 10x increase in amount of SKU XXXXXXX being sold..... go figure out why.

This was obviously a mistake and no normal human being would of priced a current trimmer at more than 80% off when there is tons of new stock, without first going through regular price drops and promos.

As far as if a store manager can have an immediate impact, while I do not have direct experience with Lowes or Home Depot, with other large national chains such as Staples, OfficeDepot/Max and BestBuy, where I covered a large territory for #1 tech company in a number of categories... YES, good managers can get large chain to fix something, especially something as simple as an abnormal price or a price mistake, and in most cases, it gets caught at the retail level, not corporate. (i.e. at Corporate there may be only 1 or 2 people dealing with price approvals), things get by, but once it hits the store level, you have thousands of eyeballs. First few hours you have knowledgeable employees in those departments taking advantage of things, then management... and at that point there are questions raised.

As far as those reports, when I worked in management in one of those chains, every day we would pull up a few reports... 1. price changes and overrides, 2. abnormal sales volume for skus.

But most don't care. They get their 10 grilles and make their cash... who cares about anyone else...

Same price for me...

I also saw this grill for $32 if you want something really cheap... maybe for like tailgating or take to the deer lease?

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Char-Broil-Quickset-Black-3-Burner-Liquid-Propane-Gas-Grill/50329715

I love my 3-burner Weber Genesis though... Only way I would switch grills is if I could find a 4 or 5 burner higher-end model...
