Great - Epic garage sale today! Got there plenty early in a rain storm. They were setting up tents in the back yard and I asked if they were open for business. Guy says if you've got cash then we're open! Had the garage to myself for about 1/2hr until another guy showed up. I emptied my wallet... had to use a charge card to buy a cup of coffee on the way home...

Nice haul.

I have an early Blackhawk socket, 1/2" drive, 1/2" six point socket. Arrowhead with a circle inside with a B inside the circle.
That's a nice set. I'll have to start looking for some early Blackhawk. I only have a few pieces of really early socket sets and an almost complete Starrett set.

Okay, we have officially reached a new level of amazing today.

The large tin toy gas station came from a local toy store for $100 and it has all of the orginal gas pumps and other parts.
$100! Time to clean the attic! I sh*t you not, my oldest boy, who is now 31, LOVED this toy as a toddler. My wife and I bought it at the Px on Gablingen Kaserne in Augsburg, Germany in 1987! I haven't thought it about it in years.

Nice finds JV, but WHY do people use markers to put prices on things? :wtf:

Denatured alcohol or WD-40 will typically take that off without taking the paint with it...

I can understand forgetting the "minor" finds when you have brought home a unicorn! Unbelievable!

bmwrd0,
Congrats on that beautiful SO boxed set.
The unknown box looks kind of Union to me.
The leatherette wrench roll...does look twenties, but the Bonaloy wrenches are 1938 or later. Is there any lettering in the roll, or any other possible identifying mark? Bonney rolls typically have a triangular patch of plaid in the upper left corner when open. Can’t see in your photo. Maybe one of the other brands in the photo?
The wrench on the right says Vlchek, but the one to the left of the Bonaloys looks like Blue Point Supreme. Were they all in that roll?

Would you prefer a paint pen?

I was just looking at a '37 Bonney cat and noticed the corner also. So, I am not sure now. And yes there was an early BP supreme and a Vlchek in with them, along with some random cheap wrenches.

I've been traveling the country over the past 3 weeks and managed to pick up a few things along the way and then some recent purchases this past week at auction.
A Marathon 1lb grease can at my first antique store stop somewhere in Nebraska.
IMG_3237.jpg
A small Pennens socket kit from an antique store in Deadwood SD.
IMG_3235.jpg
I got this tire balancer from a want ad in the Salt Lake City area.
IMG_3244.jpg
This is Nancy, or so said the old guy with lots of old rusty junk for sale near to the Crazy Horse Monument.
IMG_3245.jpg
I expanded my license plate collection at various stops along the trip.
IMG_3251.jpgIMG_3253.jpg
And this No Smoking sign also from the store in Deadwood SD. It's going to hang nicely in my shop.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I thought it was 1920s, but have all of my old tool catalogs on my computer at work. I've been watching this one for about 6 months. I've got to find the sign for the top now and the tools to fill it.

Snagged these today for $50! 0-1” was froze up, but everything else was nearly mint condition, even the outside of the cases are un-marred, plus the original paperwork with one kit. I took the 0-1” apart and soaked it in the afternoon sun with mineral spirits, and it came loose without much effort. They look exactly like the Starrets my uncle has.

I don't what they are thinking with the makers. I almost didn't get it because of the marker pricing. He had actually wrote prices that way on 1940s paper items and ruined them. Most of it came off with some Windex. I've had good results with magic erasers too and will have to try the WD40.

You know, looking at that image, it does seem like it may say

BON(cv)NEY
WRENCHES

And this ad shows a CV roll with no plaid inside the roll (though they use it for a background):

Looks a lot like the same font.

My second and third stops turned out to be busts, but not the fourth! I wasn't expecting anything really, as there were no tools in the pics, just a lot of old junk, some of which looked OK...

Got there and headed into the garage, where I saw one of those super cheap rollers. Not expecting much, I go through the drawers, finding Snap-on and Plomb drivers, then looking around spotted a couple set boxes open against the wall. Go to look, and this is what I find for $10:

juwpk6.jpg

Open it up, and this awaits me:

30sj4hs.jpg

After getting rid of the dross, this is what I find:

34r94dk.jpg

Snap-on and BP wrenches and sockets, Plomp, Bonney, Industro, B&D and SK sockets, Brazing rod, an Acetylene wrench, an unknown socket driver that looks quality and a Snap-on 9/32 breaker bar. Waiting to pay, I looked at the stuff they had under glass and picked up the following for $5:

33nxcuc.jpg

Snap-on screw extractors (I think, never seen this type before from them) and SO hex keys (they are actually marked Snap-on!)

So, $80 spent all together. Not bad, and have an antique show to go to with the wife tomorrow!

Now I know why I never find any plomb carry boxes in the wild. It is because you find them all ! Major suckage this weekend!

Picked up a couple of routers from an estate sale this weekend. The Porter Cable Model 6902 with an extra base was $15, and the Bosch 1611 EVS was $50. Not a killer deal, but half of what they sell for on eBay.

In this picture the top three pairs have the early patent and the jaws meet slightly differently than the lowest two pairs with the 1953 patent. The earliest (top) pair have the Channellock handle pattern which is quite rare. The handles are usually smooth.

Slim pickins this week end but did grab a set of trammel points or beam compass if you prefer.
Made in Germany- Dietzgen, with a aluminum beam about 19" long.

Can I soak these in vinegar to remove the green fuzz without harming the plastic ?

Here's my haul from Friday and Saturday, except for a ratty el cheapo box I picked up. It went straight to the recycle yard, where the copper fittings in it netted a 75% return immediately. Too bad it was cheap to get into, lol!

Highlights:
Blackhawk BW-1170 1" combo wrench
Blackhawk ET-1160 slide hammer
Blackhawk 40418 deep 1/2" dr. socket
Craftsman No. 3 tappet wrench 9/16 x 5/8
Durachrome (X) 1027-C DOE
Herbrand 2" 1/2 dr. extension
Nicholson USA mill ******* 8" flat file
Craftsman crown logo box.

BSR 3 legged Sportsman Grill (missing the doors and bale, but they're available from Lodge, and will cost more than I paid for the grill).
Griswold 7 stick corn pan
Mason jar with 1858 patent date on it, with tin lid. Not my area of interest, but I couldn't pass it up for the price
Mystery cast iron 2-3 gallon (?) container, with a Griswold slant logo #7 lid

Not starrett, most likely Central Tool.

Rain, not as bad as predicted. I crapped out at Jakes flea today. I could have spent money on a Millers Falls offset screwdriver (with the square cross-section shank), but I already have one. I could have bought a Utica channellock-style pliers with “patented” on it. I could have bought a small LSStarrett compass or a 4” wood-handle pipe wrench (I could not make out the mfgr, just “drop forged”). I could have bought a two-speed eggbeater drill with bits stored in the handle and the sticker still stuck in the big drive wheel. Paint on that was great, it may have been a Stanley Handyman. But I didn’t.
So I went to an indoor flea spot, and picked up a Disston thumbhole rip saw. I already have one of those, too, but this one caught my eye because the medalion is in the 1878-1888 range, I think. I have not seen one exactly like it, even on the Disstonian Institute site. That novelty overcame the missing upper horn and the scratches on the blade from someone's previous derusting attempt. Well, the blade is true, the handle isn’t cracked, and the sawnuts look to be in their original positions.
At my third stop, I saw this HappiTime wall-mount tool cabinet, empty and a little steep for my wallet. And a compass saw. I have never seen a medalion as small as a sawnut before. Kind of cool. I think it may be English, rather than American, but I cannot be sure the medalion design is a crown supported by two beasts. I didn’t buy these.

Pouring rain all weekend, no garage sales or fleas. I stopped in an antique store on Saturday and rescued these:

-bottom is a socket wrench made by I believe Mossberg (not the gun mfr.), only markings I see are a 623 and looks like an "M" inside a diamond logo. Cost me $4.

- top is a HEAVY adjustable wrench made by Trimo, 15" length, some of the original grey and red paint is still visible. Works great. Patent date is 12-19-1911. Also stamped with "RF&PRR" for Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad, a small rail line that operated from 1836-1991 between Richmond VA and Washington, DC. Cost me $22, a bit much since most of my find are at the flea markets and cheap, but it was in really nice shape and is a bigger piece and caught my eye.

Friday I had to go out early so I fit in two estate sales. Timing was perfect for the first sale. I had seen a large cast iron pan in the photos and couldn’t tell anything about it other than it looked big. Figured it would be gone or too expensive, or maybe even a cheapie import.

I went there and it turned out to be a Griswold no. 14. The price was very high but the guys were willing to negotiate. I still paid alot, though a number I could work with in order to resell. No usuck pricing on this one. It has some flaws but it’s a monster.

Also, a Plumb hatchet, Channellock, Armstrong single end flare wrench, Cornwell torx, small Blue point, and a Sabre Japan knife with the box.

Nice haul! I like the Plumb hatchet, I believe that design is called a produce or a crate hatchet, designed for taking down shipping crates used in the food industry.

Cool, thanks. The estate company had a funny pricing system for their tools. I never dealt with this guy before. All tools under 12” were $1. Over 12” were $3. The hatchet was around 11-1/2” . They sort of questioned it at checkout but they made the prices.

I had found this unloading today treasures. I'd bought this for $5 three weeks ago and missed it when unloading :dunno:

Jeff Moss Alert! Its a Key machine. Not high end but other than needing a good cleaning, and the cord replaced, Seems to be in decent shape!

attachment.php

For today, sometimes you only need one good stop and that all I had today!

Estate sale I was second into the garage. a very old top box was locked up and not for sale. Might have been an interesting treasure chest, or it might have been nothing...)

I expected some of the things in my pile to be also "not for sale, but He gave me a price of $25 and I accepted and paid quickly! :bounce:

So what did I get??

LS Starrett Square, 1" Mic, Bevel gauge, and skinny scale with a hook, and the markings starting there on once side and the opposite end on the other for measuring depth. The height marker has a patent date of (something) 23 1884, adn was made in Chipokee Falls Mass. I think the mfg name starts with J. bit not sure. there is "patina' and an "R" stamped on both sides obscuring things.. BPH is a Craftsman with the Geometric font so long C era. Southern Pacific patch, a leatherette covered box, a metal box marked "Holo-krome" and "No. 22" Brass Grommets, EREM tweezers, adn the more modern needle nose pliers.

attachment.php

A 12" aluminum Quick square, and the boxes open:

attachment.php

Holo-Krome box contents. Box needs some straightening... A couple of things liik like sewing machine parts? :dunno:

attachment.php

The leatherette box appears to be watchmakers tools? Note the tiny "vise" like thing in the upper right... Lots of cutters and burrs

attachment.php

24" Pony clamp, and a smaller Stanley self centering punch

attachment.php

Stanley No. 700 clamp on vise, and a 9 lb "something" - maybe for metal forming? hand anvil? :dunno:

attachment.php

MORE TO COME!

Today’s flea finds:

I was surprised to see a Snap On made in Canada 3/8 Ferret speeder, so I grabbed that. Then went to a different booth and the guy had the other 3/8 pieces. Some are Canada and some are USA. Everyrhing has the same owner markings as the speeder. Sadly the set was split up this morning, i found out who the seller was. There may or may not have been more pieces. They date 1946 and 1947. More pics in the Snap-On thread.

Also, a pair of Wilton beam clamps and Snap On nut splitter.

And for $2, an S-K carry box with what looks to me like a Williams 3/8 socket box. Had to take them for the price.
